    # Pod 5 App Design Sesh ## Top 5 App Ideas - Melody: Messages collector: All messages from iMessage, GroupMe, Messenger, weChat, etc. compile into one app - users have the option of making the messages from oldest to newest, can also have the option of more of a to-do list - Santino: Live DJ App - Used for party/social gathering scenes in which one person is controlling the music but others would like to contribute songs to the queue from their own phones. Host phone(DJ) has some kind of approval process for each recommendation. - Paula: - Product scanner, provide a price across all stores while proviiding distance from you and the product (foreign, local, products, healthier/organic alternatives) - Kal: Health Card App: Allows you to see the results of your doctor visits (lab results, medication, health measurements, etc) and helps you keep track of your medication (daily recommendation dose, locate the pharmacy, learn about side effects and other info, etc.) - Emily: Cafe hopping app - plan routes to coffee shops and similar informal restaurant/dining options, but would have to rely on aesthetic appeal as google maps can already do this, it would basically be a wrapper for google maps ## Favorite Existing Apps - List - Instagram - Spotify - Facebook - ESPN - Wall Street Journal - Youtube App - Notion - Microsoft To-Do List - Headspace ## Review and Categorize 3 Favorite Apps App 1: Instagram - Mobile: almost entirely app experience, app before website. uses camera, location, audio, real-time, notifications - Story: pretty straightforward: photo and video sharing in different formats, a bit looser now but those were core features at start - Market: big, not niche, pretty universal - Habit: habit-forming speaks for itself, people want to know what's going on, fomo, etc. - Scope: stripped-down/MVP is buildable and still compelling (lots of people used instagram when it was still ugly) App 2: Spotify - Mobile: Really mobile friendly (has a car view feature on the go), nice to not be attached to laptop (features include audio) - Story: Compelling b/c it changed the way people think about owning/listening to music - Market: really universal, appeals to everyone, but also appeals to anyone who feels they have any niche musical interests - Habit: Ability to curate playlists for you + end of year Spotify summary which makes it more habit-forming - Scope: if you already have rights to play all the songs, shouldn't be too complicated to build an MVP App 3: Youtube - Mobile: Can create your own video on app (not possible on website), mobile friendly (watch on the go and can download videos), features: push notifications for subscriptions, audio - Story: Clear convienence, entertainment, and creating features for the app; plays a role in education sector (watching videos) - Market: basically the whole world, but b/c of personalized recs it appeals to users with any niche - Habit: Youtube recommendations + auto play next video makes it more addicting for the user - Scope: Plausible on a smaller scale with lower quality videos (more resource heavy cost, needs lot of storage and speed) ## App brainstorming # emily - [ ] cafe hopping app - plan routes to coffee shops and similar informal restaurant/dining options, but would have to rely on aesthetic appeal as google maps can already do this, it would basically be a wrapper for google maps - [ ] collaborative brainstorming app - you can already do stuff like this in google docs app but i don’t personally know a very mobile friendly option (smth where mobile app comes before website/desktop use) where ppl can collab real-time with more visually-compelling options like sticky notes, handwriting, etc. feels difficult to implement this though - [ ] smth incorporating spotify like music analyzer that shows you characteristics of ur music taste but in a very visual format- this has been done 1000x over but maybe you can frame it in a unique way - also most music analyzers are websites rather than apps so maybe there would be a market for having the analyzer right on your home screen - [ ] some sort of design/planning app to plan outfits idk this is kinda literally pinterest but maybe it could generate those 2014 tumblr outfit layouts - again something that could only succeed on aesthetic appeal - [ ] ive always wanted an app that you can make vector images on / remove image backgrounds though this feels quite technically challenging - [ ] I find the resurgence in popularity of stickers very weird but maybe an app to design stickers - either they can present you options for printing them physically or you can turn them into imessage stickers somehow - [ ] conglomerate news website like google news but its just satire articles pulled from various satire news websites. lol can you tell im running out of ideas - [ ] budgeting app - this is personally interesting to me because i like keeping detailed expense sheets / analyzing my spending and such. not sure if there would be a huge market for this when apps like mint do it automatically. it feels like it would be quite hard to connect to people’s bank accounts and analyze their spending data - i assume this is protected way more securely than spotify music data for example. so it would have to be an app where people manually input their data, so again it could only succeed on visual appeal - [ ] caffeine tracker - too niche to be successful but i would use this personally so i can find out how much caffeine i can tolerate without getting really anxious, the apple health app already offers this feature but maybe it could be cute and more simplistic for ppl who find the health app categories too cluttered (i do) - [ ] listen to music together app that maybe offers support for multiple platforms, would be difficult to work out permissions like if someone has spotify premium and the person they're listening with doesn't - [ ] not a serious idea but a mobile typing test app LOL you can compete with friends to see who's the fastest texter ig # Melody - Bucket List App: users can record places/restaurants that they want to go to (people can recommend different places to add, can share lists with other people) - Workout Recording: Users can take a picture of a workout on paper/whiteboard and the app auto turns into a doc - analyze a users workout exertion - Messages collector: All messages from iMessage, GroupMe, Messenger, weChat, etc. compile into one app - users have the option of making the messages from oldest to newest - Parent friendly social app: More feasible for parents to use and can send photos so that parents easily stay updated on kid’s days - Shopping List app: Running track of user’s groceries (gotten by taking pictures of a receipt), also recommend receipes by the available groceries - Cryptograms app: Users can play cryptograms on the go - Tutoring matching app: Links hs students/college students that want to tutor with kids who want to be tutored - Random thing to do generator: Generates things to do for someone around the area if they are bored (takes into account weather, your location, your budget) (can pull movies, places to go, restaurants) - Auto-calendar app: Given a list of things you need to do, automatically plans your day and schedules in your events - Track how you spend your day app: Quickly track how you are spending the waking time of your day, analyzes it for the user # Paula - Product scanner, provide a price across all stores while proviiding distance from you and the product (foreign, local, products) - baby/dog sitter finder swiper - recipe collaboration and editing, picture and info focused, centralized area - temporary storage, like google drive but can only keep the files for a short amount of time. file sharing, peer to peer or across devices - group/niche finder - locates people with similar interests through keyword(s), liking your profile to other platforms. Could potentially help business, content creators, media managers, or the common joe to find other people that like underwater basket weaving - contactless information sharing by bumping devices or bluetooth, idk. like airdrop but crossplatform. Business cards but no need for a card. - donations based crowdfunding, finding those in need of items (baby formula, food) -> could turn into wishlist centered, event planning - ... # Kal - Fair Walking -> tells you about the weather and maybe makes recommendations about where you can exercise Map of gyms or hiking/walking trails– depending on the heat, could also advise you not to go out during conditions like extreme heat, snow, or other dangerous weather --- Idk if allergies is also a fair thing to worry about - Inventory Keeper: Helps you manage stock and know which boxes/sections hold what kind of stuff Category: Productivity Mobile: No one wants to carry around a laptop to find the location of something, so this makes it easier for workers to find or place the items. Additionally, if they have location on, it can probably try to lead them to the route - Health Card App Description: Allows you to see the results of your doctor visits (lab results, medication etc.) and health measurements *Also helps you keep track of your medication (daily recommendation dose, which pharmacy, side effects and info etc.) - Digital Literacy App: Loosely based off the app that teaches kids about climate change, you could make an app that teaches you about digital literacy - Resource Finder: utilizing a map API, you can get the information of food banks, homeless/cooling shelters, hospitals etc. - Geocaching App # Santino - Live DJ App: Used for party/social gathering scenes in which one person is controlling the music but others would like to contribute songs to the queue from their own phones. Host phone(DJ) has some kind of approval process for each recommendation. - DAHA/DAWA : At school we tend to give away lots of stuff throughout the semester, this would serve as a marketplace-type network where people can post stuff they are trying to get rid of or something they are looking for. Requests can be matched with others incorporating some kind of proximity metric. - Reach project: Digitizing notes, implement some kind of handwritten -> text recognition pipeline that can be plugged right into an app integrated with camera
