Natural Decay

Hygiene is an RP-only sims motive for human players. It slowly decays at a set rate over time. Gaining hygiene provides a small protection buffer before hygiene begins depleting again naturally.

Devera Interdictors

Being in an interdictor field with a Devera card prevents natural hygiene decay.

Reagent Contact

When you are exposed to reagents, the reagent's hygiene_value is applied to you. Twenty-eight (28) reagents have definied hygiene values (See Table A, below). Reagents like blood and vomit quickly reduce hygiene, while others like water and space cleaner increase it. However, a player cannot be wearing a jumpsuit or oversuit to get positive hygiene effects from reagent contact.

Sink Usage

A player can use a sink to increase hygiene via washing their hands. Using this is stringent on the following conditions:

  • player is above 50 hygiene
  • no gloves on
  • no items in hand

Doing so will start an infinitely repeating action bar that will increase hygiene by 2 each cycle. Medical and Chef training boost this hygiene increase from 2 to 3.

Laundry Machines

A player can shove a mob into a laundry machine, which sets the affected mob's hygiene to 100.

Aquaphobic Effect

Being aquaphobic (e.g. being a /datum/mutantrace/cat/bingus ) causes oil to give you 3 hygiene and water to give you -3 hygiene.

Effects

Warning messages

Under 50 hygiene, players start recieving messages about how dirty they feel in the chat window. At 25 hygiene and below, these messages use stronger language and direct the player to take a shower or bath.

Filthy

At under 15 hygiene, there is a 33% chance every life process to gain the filthy status effect. After three minutes, the filthy status effect changes to rancid, described below. This effect is cleared if the player rises above 85 hygiene.

Rancid

A visual "stink lines" effect is added to the player. This effect is cleared if the player rises above 85 hygiene.
