## Favorite Existing Apps - Categorize and Evaluate
- Choose three apps that we're more familiar with and categorize them by looking up Play Store/App Store info
- Spotify:
- [Category]: Music
- [Mobile]: Can listen to music on-the-go, download songs, Premium needed to have unlimited skips and select specific songs. Desktop app or web browser version have more free functionality.
- [Story]: Allows users to stream their favorite artists and podcasts in one platform and enhances their experience by allowing the creation of playlists.
- [Market]: Anyone who wishes to listen to music. Also expanding to podcasts. Unique "Discover Weekly" and recommended algorithms make it easy to find new songs. Also, all the music is consolidated on the same platform for ease of access.
- [Habit]: Users can make playlists, explore new artists/playlists etc. via recommendations, and follow/find friends with similar music tastes. Users can listen to music they like whenever they want and also multitask on their phone while listening so its very habit forming.
- [Scope]: Started out with a more narrow focus (i.e., searching for artists, creating playlists etc.) but has expanded to include more features such as auto-generated playlists, personalized yearly summaries of music taste/evolution, other genres of audio such as podcasts, and for Premium users there's a beta feature of collaborative listening.
- Instagram:
- [Category]: Photo & Video
- [Mobile]: Can take pictures and upload them from phone (use of camera), can tag phone's location. Infinite scrolling. Aspect ratio (used to be square only) optmized for mobile viewing. Web version is view only.
- [Story]: Users can share photos/videos, sell products, chat with each other
- [Market]: Discover brands and small businesses, and shop products that are relevant to your personal style.
- [Habit]: Can be used to communicate with friends, post photos, view others' posts, engage with others' posts. Posting/engaging more nets you more followers and popularity.
- [Scope]: Started out focusing on posting photos and videos to a profile page. Broadened such that users can now also create temporary "stories" and send direct messages to each other or groups.
- Tiktok:
- [Category]: Videos, Music, & Live Streams
- [Mobile]: Can film videos and upload to a page as well as unlimited scroll. Website functionality does not allow for video creation
- [Story]: Allows users to share their lives or other entertainment through short videos and edit their videos with effects and filters
- [Market]: Anyone who enjoys filming videos or watching videos. Ability to follow and hashtag based on interests allows users to engage in relevant interests. Algorithm also tailors experience to the user and allows for incredible growth for new creators.
- [Habit]: Users can watch a short video in any spare time they have and scroll if they want to see something new. The average user would mostly consume the videos on the app rather than creating. Creators are able to post many times throughout the day.
- [Scope]: Originally started as a short video upload site, similar to Vine. Expanded to have features such as duets, in-app video editing, and live streams.
