# First Team Meeting Worksheet

## Team Members Present
* Alaina Arnold
* Daniel Diaz
* Kai Frey
* Max Lata
* Katie Huang
* Vivian Tran
## I. Identify a Common Vision
*You’ve all voted on a common idea and themes. Now is the time to work through your commonalities and find a unifying vision between all of you. Answer the following for each of you. This is the time to speak your mind. Be honest with each other.*
### Commonalities
*Who makes up your team? What are some common things you are interested in? Tell each other about the things you put down on the survey and expand on some of your passions.*
Viv Tran: Design, poetry, listening to music
Daniel Diaz: Self-care, trying new things to become a better version of himself (personal development)
Kai Frey: Accessibility for the neurodivergent, helping others (TA, tutor), comic books/action movies/TV shows
Alaina Arnold: Digital arts, doing makeup/weird artsy makeup, empathizing/struggling with people
### Inspiration
*What are some things each of you is inspired by?*
Daniel: People who advocate for others
Kai: Hearing others' stories, whether they have overcome or are overcoming
Viv: When people are open & showing their true self
Alaina: People who are comfortable being themself or are working to get there. Don't judge other people, understand where other people are coming from.
### Problems of Interest
*What problems are you looking to address? Why?*
Being open about your mental health, expressing your feelings without being bound to them.
### Identify
*Which of the above is most interesting to all of you?*
## II. Narrow In
*Now let's try narrowing in on a problem that interests all of you. Make sure to go around and listen to everybody on your team without interruption.*
### Problem Statement
*State the problem you want to solve succinctly.*
Talking with other people or writing down your feelings can feel permanent--your thoughts are now out in the world forever. We don't always want to be reminded of our feelings.
### Rephrase
*Try to rephrase the problem statement (negative) as an opportunity (positive). Word it as a question beginning with, “How might we…?”*
How might we allow people to express their emotions either with structured or unstructured writing without pressure to be good at writing?
### Reframe
*Reframe the question in at least 5 different ways to change the question fundamentally or imply a different solution set. Try changing scope, or audience, or technology.*
1. We want to create a place where impermanence is okay and expected.
1. We talked about this a lot but can't remember the specific reframes
### Choose
*Are any of the reframes more interesting? Choose one.*
...Only have one that we remember. So yeah, pretty interesting.
#### Coolness
*What could be cool about this potential project?*
People who aren't used to sharing how they feel can be introduced to that. Reminding people that there is more than one way to express your feelings. Since we are including a game/communication aspect, also reminding people that it is okay to share their feelings with other people.
#### Challenges
*What could be challenging / unfun about this potential project?*
We're juggling two different ideas, and we feel like we've kind of merging them, but we're going to run into problems at some point with the way of merging.
We have a lot of different feature ideas but we'll probably have to cut down on them, which will decrease our merge success.
#### Success
*What does success look like for this project?*
A functional way to write rants or haiku, and a feed (so the option to be public or private). Also needs to look nice and have a search capability that is specific to each user (so we need authentication).
## III. Survey the State of the Art
*Do some research. Try to find what else is out there that is similar, either products, or technical papers that are related.*
### Similar Goals
*Are there others working to achieve similar goals?*
There are plenty of other online games people have been playing during quarantine, many of which are based off of board games.
* JackBox Games (Quiplash, Fibbage, Drawful, etc.)
* [Skribbl.io](https://skribbl.io/)
* [Codenames](https://www.horsepaste.com/)
Halka is a phone app that lets you write a journal entry, has some mindfulness reminders, and deletes your entry as soon as you are ready for it to be deleted.
### Differences
*How is your approach different/better than the state of the art?*
We allow for people to look back on their journal entries, but they can also be "gone" forever, should the user want that. We also are incorporating haikus as a way to communicate with your friends and post your feelings publicly. Maybe, if we have time, we will add in a collaborative game, based on haikus.
### Inspiration
*Are there any existing products/techniques/research, that we could, by analogy, draw inspiration from?*
We'll probably draw inspiration from Halka, and, if we get to the game, from JackBox games. We might take color schemes or other aspects from mindfulness/meditation apps like Calm, since this is supposed to be a site where we can relax.
## IV. Team Dynamics
*And finally, let's think through a couple of team dynamics things as we'll be working together for the next month.*
### Schedule
*Outline a general weekly meeting schedule with at least 1 time that everybody can make. That one meeting must include everyone on the team. A nice tool for this is [when2meet](https://www.when2meet.com/).*
Meeting ID: 978 1737 1753
Password: HaiPals
### Responsiveness
*How often should team members be expected to check and respond on Slack?*
Group members should try to be active on Slack at least once a day, three times a day or more closer to the delivery of the product.
### Group Decisions
*What types of decisions need to be discussed and approved by the entire group?*
* Stack / Libraries
* Naming conventions
* Back-end representation
* Asynchronous behavior
* File structure
### Individual Decisions
*What types of decisions can be made by a single person?*
* Functions
* Prompts!
* PR merges (just not the author)
### Conflict Resolution
*There are three main types of conflict that tend to occur in group projects*
* *Creative differences: disagreement on any decisions related to the product*
1. Majority vote with consultation of online sources
2. If tie, Tim
* *Personal differences: friction between people due to manner or words said*
1. Mediated conversation with another teammate
2. Mediated conversation with TA
3. Mediated conversation with Tim
* *Ghosting: consistent missed deadlines or lack of contribution*
1. Warning
2. Conversation
3. Conversation with Tim
