Hey there, I am Manav Darji and these are my updates for week 2 (31/07 - 06/08).

The goal of this week was to have an initial discussion with the Mentors (Terrence and Potuz) from the Prysm team and plan out the next steps.

Updates

  • Had a call for discussing a rough path ahead for the EPF fellows choosing the ePBS project.
    • Gathered rough idea of all the sub-topics involved in the project. Also, got to know about some design descisions which I was earlier unsure about.
  • Few of the sub-topics to look at are
    • Builder onboarding and exit
    • Handling validator withdrawals
    • Beacon chain state transition
    • Fork choice updates
    • Networking components (like the gossiping of votes among the PTC committee)
  • As suggested by the mentors, choosing one (or more) sub-topics and helping them with the spec + PoC (if requited) is the way ahead.
  • For the beacon chain and fork choice details, they'll be sharing a blueprint of the spec which will help us attempt to fill in relevant details based on our interest.
  • Continued reading the eth2book for more consensus terms and process like the attestation process, fork choice, beacon state transition, withdrawals, etc. required for me to choose what to focus on in PBS.
  • Another problem statement which requires more validation is whether 512 a good number for the PTC committee or not. Moreover, how difficult it is to have a moving committee which keeps moving in and out of the global gossiping topic (overhead from a networking perspective). I am looking more into these specific topics.

Next steps

  • Choose a specific sub-topic to work on and start with reviewing and helping with the spec.
