    # FBU Progress ## Axes of Performance 1. Productivity: How quickly can you outline a solution to a problem? Are you completing tasks efficiently and effectively? 2. Quality of Work: How many iterations does it take to get to quality work? Does your work improve with feedback? 3. Initiative & Independence: Are you independently proposing new impactful things to work on? Are you self-driven, resourceful, and motivated to achieve things beyond the initial project goals? 4. Learning speed: What knowledge did you need to acquire for your project, and how quickly did you acquire it? Are you asking questions that indicate you are thinking ahead? 5. Communication & Collaboration: Are you able to communicate and increase visibility to the team? Are you solutions-oriented? Are you self-driven, resourceful, motivated, thoughtful? *Can you achieve things beyond this initial project?* ## TODO - filter expenses in utils - ExpenseCollection object instead of ExpenseUtils - construction - mock a function ## Week 1 ### Completed * Learn Android Studio basics * SimpleToDo - optional lab * https://github.com/srnazng/SimpleToDo * Flixter project - completed project and all stretch goals * Scrollable feature * Rounded corners * Embed Youtube video * View binding * https://github.com/srnazng/Flixter * Brainstorm project ideas * Connected with manager and other interns ### Risks * Stretch goals ### Blocks * Autorotate must be turned on (solved by self) * Found out have to cold reboot emulator (solved by Google) * Spent a lot of time trying to use phone emulator (could not because different wifi networks) and image on activity detail (TA says cannot be done) ### Wins * Helped other people solve issues I had * Completed all stretch activities for Flixter * Created first two Android Studio projects ### Questions * ViewBinding for adapters (for RecyclerView specifically) * Meet with someone on WhatsApp team * Feedback ## Week 2 ### Completed * BookSearch lab with Violet * Replace action bar with custom toolbar * Implement toolbar search * Share icon in toolbar * Did not have time to figure out share image * First one on one with manager * Met Whatsapp Network team * Twitter project - completed Tuesday * Completed Tuesday * Twitter API requests * View feed * Post tweet * Scroll to refresh * Stretch goals * Twitter themed styling * color scheme * Reply tweets * Retweet/unretweet * Favoirte/unfavorite * Adding URL * Autolinking in tweet body * Additional features * User profiles * Show number of followers/following * Dynamic text sizes * Toolbar * Obstacles * Adding extra media to tweets - Some tweets did not have images attached but still showed the spacing for an image and the refresh messed up the images * Solution: field GONE in imageView for certain tweets (read through all the fields and Googled) * Tweets suddenly stopped showing on home feed * Solution: had to use a new Twitter account for testing periodically * Logo on action bar could not be styled * Solution: Used a toolbar to allow for more customizations * Contact Book (Material Design Lab) with group * CardView ### Risks ### Bugs * Compose reply layout: When I was editing activity_compose_reply.xml my changes were not showing up. I thought it was my code but after a while I tried making large obvious changes and they also were not showing up. I had another view that looked very similar, activity_compose.xml for composing tweets, that I had copied to create activity_compose_reply.xml. I had a guess that perhaps I was viewing the wrong xml file in the activity and made a change to activity_compose.xml. When I did, I saw those changes on the screen. I therefore knew that the activity was being connected to the wrong layout file. I was then able to go into the activity and quickly find the line connecting it to the layout and was able to fix the bug. ### Blocks * Send a Reply (send original tweet to ComposeReplyActivity) - I had an onClick attribute in the XML of the reply button. However, because the reply button was associated to each tweet, the reply button was located in the ViewHolder of the RecyclerView. As a result, the onClick function was not in the scope of the XML. I tried putting the onClick function in different activities but could not find any that worked. I also searched for different ways to do this but could not find anything. I ended up asking a TA who said that my current method of adding the onClick was going to be very complicated and suggested I look into adding the onClick listener from the Java side. I took his advice and started over and was able to continue. All the other parts related to sending the reply I figured out by looking at past code. ### Comments * parameters: define public/private/protected etc. * static final - constant ## Week 3 ### Completed - Chat Bot (group lab) - Instagram - Wireframe - Set up models ### Bugs - Image upload type does not send to Parse database - Unlike image - Home feed data does not update when pressing backspace from other page - lecture talked about Fragment lifecycle including onResume ### Comments - Define access level for variables declared in a class - Add some explanatory comments and/or function docs when you feel necessary - Think about and handle edge cases if possible. For example, the getApiUrl in TwitterClient.java returns the null string ## Week 4 ### Completed - Midpoint reflection - week 1 milestones ## Week 5 ### Completed - Recurring events - Monthly calendar - Calendar events - Scroll animation - 1:1 with Julie and attended Whatsapp Networking offsite - Modularize code ### Bugs - difficulty with recurrence objects and how to represent - switch table columns --> add recurrence object to chore instead of other way around ## Week 6 ### Testing Notes - Unit testing - test folder - logic - JUnit5, Mockito (mainstream, 95%) - Instrumentation - androidTest folder - need emulator - JUnit4, Mockito - UI test - androidTest folder - simulate a person using your app - need emulator - Espresso ### Bugs - division/addition with floats not accurate - use BigDecimal - round FLOOR instead of HALFDOWN ## Week 7 ### Accomplishments - gesture - Firebase - device groups - send notifications - refresh tokens ### Bugs/blocks - Firebase messaging API documentation outdated/not correct - Stack overflow - test with Postman
