We will break into 2 rooms for discussion and come back together at the end to summarize.

Room 1: State of the Map conferences & Fundraising

  • Joint fundraising
  • Challenges
  • New ideas

Room 2: Chapter & community sustainability

  • events, project
  • Indonesia: how to sustain community
  • YouthMappers alumni problem
  • Uganda: local community give services (paid?)
  • creating a sense of belonging
  • niche subcommunities

how to run events, make OSM community sustainable without funds

Zainab: How do we create a sense of belonging in the community?
Eugene: YouthMappers chapters really help. We can hold events under YM chapters in universities.
Charles: What about those who graduate YMthey become dormant because they're no longer part of the YM chapter? How do we sustain their participation?
Allan: From a YM alumni POV, if there is a local chapter or community, the alumni can put together an organization to keep offering GIS trainings, promote OSM. The organization can serve as a backbone for
Jikka: Agree with Allan, it's good to defer to the local OSM community.
