Online training session: writing a DMP for your PhD project (July 17, 2024)
==============================
## Welcome to the Session Collaborative Document
This Document is synchronized as you type, so that everyone viewing this page sees the same text. This allows you to collaborate seamlessly on documents. Here's a [Markdown cheat sheet](https://www.markdownguide.org/cheat-sheet/) in case useful.

## 👩🏫👩💻🎓 Trainers
Lora Armstrong & Xinyan Fan (CEG data stewards)
## Participants & icebreaker
Please introduce yourself here
[Name]/[Department]/[Something to do in Netherlands that you'd recommend to a friend]
* Lora/CEG management support/go to the [Den Bosch boat parade](https://boschparade.nl/)
*
* Shashanka Katta, CEG, Railway Section. Escher in a het palais is a nice museum to visit to.
* Yuxing Cheng, CEG, Transport & planning. Visit CEG office soon.
* Andrés Cortés, CEG - Sanitary Engineering, visit and rent a boat in Giethoorn
* Federico Montali, Geo-Engineering, Visit Texel.
* Sinéad Reidy, Civil Engineering and Geosciences but based in Norway. A run around TU Delft campus in the morning
* Alex Lapadat, Geoscience & Remote Sensing, CiTG. Go see Kroller muller museum!
## 🧠 Collaborative Notes & 🔧 Exercises
### Exercise: Types of data that you would like to include in the data table (5 minutes)
* Example (you don't have to be so detailed):
* *physical samples*: starting materials for experiments, experimental charges
* *measurements on experimental run products*: chemical composition & images (electron microprobe), Raman & FTIR spectra, total C & H concentrations (SIMS)
* *values derived from measurements*: oxygen fugacity, H2O and CO2 concentrations, non-carbonate C concentration, volatile speciation
* *code*: R code used to perform calculations/analysis on measurements
* *re-used data*: various data from literature used in calculations, data from related studies used for comparison
*
* Python script for data cleaning and prediction model
* Raw traffic sensor data
* Real time public transport vehicle information (gtfs data in .xml)
* Results from tensile test on steel samples.
* Field corrosion measurments on walls.
* Matlab script for data interpretation.
* Finite Element model of the anchor system.
* Data from experiments carried out at the V-Track test rig to measure the ground vibrations
* raw Remote Sensing data (Sentinel1 SCL data)
* raw GNSS data (code and phase observables in .rnx files)
* preprocessed InSAR interferograms & PSi Displacement products
* Collection of scripts to prepare geosciece data (cleaning, trend analysis, plotting)
* GNSS based displacement time series (.pos files, .res files, python based figures)
* Shell scripts (data download, crontab automation of .py scripts)
### Exercise: Connect to different types of storage (10 minutes)
#### You have all been given read/write access to the folder CEGRDMsandbox on the Project Storage Drive (U:)
1. Go to [https://webdata.tudelft.nl/](https://webdata.tudelft.nl/) and connect to Project Data Storage using the WebDav web links for staff-umbrella. Can you see the folder CEGRDMsandbox? Try downloading the file.
2. Try connecting to the same folder in a different way (will depend on your operating system- see instructions [here](https://tud365.sharepoint.com/:b:/s/CiTGDataStewardship/Ea_-WhkuIplImKtNTAmxvOUBtBpfxhZw730XjSml9zGQGg?e=8wgBKL) if you were unable to download them from webdata). Try adding a file or folder.
3. If you haven't tried it already, log into SurfDrive at [https://surfdrive.surf.nl/](https://surfdrive.surf.nl/)
*Did you experience problems connecting to Project Data Storage?* Please let us know what went wrong here, and if necessary contact ICT later for help using TopDesk's [Project Data Storage malfunction form](https://tudelft.topdesk.net/tas/public/ssp/content/serviceflow?unid=bb079374b047400382d67566e4b57597&from=cac22e81-a71b-4aaa-b268-da90e255e19a&openedFromService=true).
### Post-session Exercise
Please fill out your own data management plan and ask for feedback using the ‘Request Feedback’ button from DMPonline before **9 September**.
## Q&A
*If there are questions we couldn't answer in the session, we will add them here with answers afterwards- feel free to add questions yourself*
## Feedback
#### Which parts of this session did you like or find useful?
* Really useful. More specific than library /graduate school RDM101. Clear and to the point.
