by Christian Herglotz (Friedrich-Alexander-Universität) - 2023.06.07 Abstract In the past decade, video communication systems have conquered the world. Nowadays, billions of people worldwide use a wide variety of online video services every day. Applications range from videoconferencing and video streaming to social networks and surveillance scenarios. Concurrently, recent studies have found that in 2018, roughly 1% of the global greenhouse gas emissions could be attributed to these online video services, highlighting the need for research targeting energy efficient online video systems. In this talk, we give an overview on the functionality and the hardware needed to operate online video systems and spot opportunities for efficient energy reduction technicques.

6/2/2023by Guillaume Gautier (Tampere University) - 2023.06.27 Abstract Join us for this enlightening seminar, where we bridge the gap between dynamic point cloud acquisition, video-based point cloud compression, and the exciting possibilities of voxelized point cloud datasets. Gain a deeper understanding of volumetric video communications and explore the frontiers of immersive visual experiences. In the first part of the seminar, we will introduce the current state of our capture system based on Kinects. Discover the intricacies of this system as we delve into the details of dynamic point cloud acquisition. Gain insights into the technology behind capturing high-quality, real-time point cloud data, enabling immersive volumetric video experiences. Continuing our exploration, we will provide an overview of the V-PCC standard. Learn about the principles and techniques that underpin this cutting-edge compression approach for volumetric video data. Understand how V-PCC enables efficient transmission and storage of point cloud information, facilitating seamless communication and interaction. Finally, in the last part of the presentation, we will introduce our voxelized point cloud dataset. Immerse yourself in the potential of volumetric video communication as we showcase our dataset, UVG-VPC. Witness how this representation of point cloud data unlocks a multitude of applications, including virtual reality, augmented reality, and interactive media.
5/31/2023by Jordane Lorandel (IETR - ASIC) - 2023.05.16 Abstract Hardware security becomes a major concern for the development of future IoT devices. In fact, the design of such devices was preliminary guided to meet typical constraints such as power consumption, area, memory footprint. In this presentation, we will focus on hardware security issues targeting communication bus, commonly used in embedded systems. More precisely, two hardware attacks will be presented 1) a man-in-the-middle attack on PCIe bus of a smartphone and 2) Malicious hardware trojan for remote bus leakage.
