    # Shield Retrospective Notes 2023 ## Dec. 26 - Dec. 29, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** Not to much to report with this Sprint with the low capacity. **Wade** - Quiet week for sure. ### Learned ### Lacked **Jillian** Would have been great if I didn't end my week with Strep Throat, but atleast it is before vacation **Katie** - Health and wellness!! **Wade** - Stephen's last week on the team! ### PTO **Jillian** Jan 9- Jan 16 **Katie** 1/2-1/3 --- ## Dec 8 - Dec. 22, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - Stephen did an awesome job holding down the team while everyone was in Mexico! - Welcoming Dan to the team and appreciate Stephen sharing everything with him as he learns more about NitroID **Stephen** - Welcome Dan! - Even though the spike was annoying, we got some nice improvements out of it (cookie expiration, button disabling, etc) **Dan** - Joining the team! :) - Stephen and Katie did a wonderful job getting me up to speed. It was a crash course but I'm confident I'll get there. **Katie** - Very excited for Dan joining the team! Welcome!! - Stephen + Dan did a great job with everyone out on PTO ### Learned **Dan** - Learned a lot about NitroIDs login flow & SHIELDs process ### Lacked **Jillian** - Everyone getting sick :( Stay healthy! - Make a new calendar ### PTO **Jillian** - Dec. 26; Jan 9 - Jan 17 **Dan** - Dec. 26 - Jan 2 **Katie** - 12/26 - 1/2 ## Nov 27 - Dec. 8, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - Last Sprint we had a very strong week! Worked through some support tickets despite some unknowns we are still trying to figure out and still making progress with our OKRs. - Had a great first meeting with Courtney and Jenny trying to figure out what we want for change password and the countdown to change password as well as lockout and the connect messages. - For this Sprint the design meeting was great! Really finalized the main parts which the developers can start working on next week! I know Courtney had a question about NitroID change password window popping up in Nitro (something Jenny really liked) so wanted to see if that was doable. The reason being the change password isnt happening in different places, rather just NitroID screen being the source **Wade** - Like what I'm seeing with both the 2FA authenticator app and password expiration stuff. **Katie** - It's always great collaborating with Courtney. It's been nice to have her back on the team and NitroID is finally starting to look like a polished product. - Support ticket queue has been very helpful for keeping track of various issues **Courtney** - Always love pairing with Katie! We take time to catch up and solve problems together. Katie, thanks for being patient with figuring out the sign in screen and explaining the passphrase kit issues. - Great meeting with Jillian + Jenny! I love the cadence of the meetings. Trying to figure out things together is much more fun! ### Learned **Jillian** - Before any of the new security designs hit production Jenny has to review it. We can talk about how we want to do this in our process (probably add her as a reviewer) **Courtney** - I always learn so much from all of you. Thanks for listening when I present and answering all my questions / offering up your ideas to solve problems. ### Lacked **Wade** - We lacked a Stephen Greer which paused the authenticator app progresss. **Katie** - Sleep last night due to some midnight PD alerts for a PXC pod - my brain is moving slowly today ### PTO **Wade** will be in Mexico Tue-Fri next week. **Katie** - 12/13-12/20 💃🏼🇲🇽 - 12/26 - 1/2 **Courtney** - 12/11-12/15 🏝️✌🏼🎸 *Please reach out to Kelly (mon-tues) & Eva (wed-fri)* - 12/21-12/22 🎄 - 12/26-12/27 🎄 - I have 3 more days to take! --- ## Nov. 20 - Nov. 24 - 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - Happy to see the progress being made, and that the walkthrough went well for TempoID and Stream! **Katie** - Great collaboration and pairing sessions with Courtney this week! - TempoID walkthrough with Stream teams went well. Happy to see they are finally taking steps to own of this integration. - Good pairing with Jackie Henry and Andrew Budis on manual LDAP tasks. We were able to identify which parties are responsible for certain tasks and identify potential improvements for the future. ### Learned **Katie** - Working with the playbook form system for rails can be messy, especially when working with a complicated form. ### Lacked **Katie** - Last week's retro notes 🙈 ### PTO **Katie** - Mexico 12/13-12/15 - 12/18-12-20 - 12/26 --- ## Nov 13- Nov 17, 2023 ### Liked ### Learned ### Lacked ### PTO --- ## Nov. 6 - Nov. 10, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - moved through a lot of work fast this Sprint (34 pts ) - So glad we were able to develop more stories to put in Queued for the security work - Communication has been great with Jenny considering a lot of our work is blocked by answers from Leadership! **Stephen** - Kudos to Katie for getting that GraphQL story out. The mobile team should have everything they need from us now. **Katie** - All Tempo users being created in Tempo :') No more rogue LDAP accounts - Huge week for the team. We should all feel proud of ourselves - Great communication with Jenny. She has been a trooper enduring all of my questions - Kudos to Courtney for being super helpful and available to help with error messages, finding designs, etc ### Learned **Jillian** - learned about private vs. public queries, renovate bots and dependabots, data tables, **Katie** - Learned a lot about market maps queries digging into broken mobile queries - You can do some pretty cool stuff with Vite ### Lacked **Katie** - Understanding of where things live in our UX handoffs. Shout out to Courtney for helping us to better understand that - There are some pieces of the security work coming up that are going to require some thought around the user experience. We could use a dedicated UX member on the team to help drive these efforts ### PTO **Wade** - Thu/Mon 11/8-11/13 - Thu/Mon 11/30-12/4 - Mexico 12/12-12/15 **Katie** - Fri 11/24 - Mexico 12/13-12/15 - Mon/Weds 12/18-12-20 **Stephen** - 11/17 - 12/1-12/8 **Jillian** - 12/20-12/26 --- ## October 30 - Nov. 3, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - Kudos to Stephen for shipping 2 stories in 2 days before his PTO - Katie staying on top of adding all appropriate reviewers! **Stephen** - Splunk is now using NitroID - No more annoying Helm chart failures for TempoID **Katie** - Getting SAML documentation available for use - Kudos to Stephen for carrying the team while I was in the trenches of GraphQL work ### Learned **Jillian** - Learned about API,iFrame **Stephen** - 3 days off is still not enough ### Lacked ### PTO **Wade** - Fri 10/27 - Thu/Fri 11/2-11/3 - Thu/Mon 11/8-11/13 - Thu/Mon 11/30-12/4 - Mexico 12/12-12/15 **Katie** - 11/24 - 12/13-12/20 **Stephen** - 11/1-11/3 - 11/17 - 12/1-12/8 **Jillian** - 12/20-12/26 --- ## October 23 - 27, 2023 ### Liked **Wade** - Glad to hear about SAML usage starting up. **Jillian** - +1 for Wade's comment - outside of that it was a pretty smooth week. Seems like we have a lot of good things being worked on at the moment and the In Progress column is stacking up. - Outside of the 13 point story you both do a good job at keeping stories small and shippable throughout the week. Again you guys are great at self-organizing and sticking to the scrum process. **Stephen** - The app continues to run smoothly. No DB issues, low Sentry count, and no reports of users running into problems. **Katie** - Combo of Stephen and Wade's comments - NitroID is running smoothly even with more and more systems beginning to use it for authentication. - Even without SAML documentation, support for integration has been minimal. ### Learned **Katie** - SRE are starting to take steps to integrate with NitroID's SAML auth. This will allow us to remove SAML in nitro-web and deprecate the SSO component. OIDC is also starting to be used for tools that support it. ### Lacked **Katie** - We don't have any docs for SAML integration. ### PTO **Wade** - Fri 10/27 - Thu/Fri 11/2-11/3 - Thu/Mon 11/8-11/13 - Thu/Mon 11/30-12/4 - Mexico 12/12-12/15 **Katie** - 12/13-12/20 **Stephen** - 11/1-11/3 - 11/17 - 12/1-12/8 **Jillian** - 12/20-12/26 --- ## October 16- 20, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - Great first week back after Create. Made some good progress especially since we didn't ship anything the week before Create **Wade** - Smooth week, so I'm optimistic about us being able to focus on features for Q4. **Katie** - +1 to the above. It was a nice first week back after Create. We took care of some annoyances that should have a big impact. **Stephen** - The issue with users ending up on the NitroID page seems to be *mostly* fixed. There may be a couple more edge cases to cover there. ### Learned **Wade** ![](https://hackmd.io/_uploads/B1T9XGEMT.png) - After using [powerlevel10k](https://github.com/romkatv/powerlevel10k) for my terminal prompt, I switched to [Starship](https://starship.rs) over the weekend. It works better with [Warp](https://www.warp.dev), a terminal I've wanted to switch to for a while. My theme comes from [this post](https://dev.to/therubberduckiee/how-to-configure-starship-to-look-exactly-like-p10k-zsh-warp-h9h). **Katie** - We have had an influx of support requests coming through. It would be nice to have a support schedule in place. Maybe we can alternate with (or add to) the on call rotation? ### Lacked **Wade** - Are we doing okay with OKRs thus far? I know we're only a few weeks in but I haven't paid attention enough to know if we're getting the right stuff done so far. **Katie** - We haven't focused much on our OKRs yet this quarter. We have the forgot passphrase work done, but haven't started with security improvemnts. The LDAP stuff is pretty reliant on Carlos' work, but we have started putting some pieces in place. **Stephen** - I haven't been working on any OKRs yet. Getting the NitroID Operator configured to handle more failures and fixing the Helm chart both felt neccessary enough to take care of first. --- ## September 25 - September 29, 2023 ### Liked **Stephen** - Haven't heard of any major NitroID issues. - Having a test OIDC app will save us a ton of time. **Jillian** - made some good progress this week. excited to get passphrase over the line - same with Stephen, heard no issues with NitroID - Thanks to Brandon and Jon for always jumping in with testing - Even though Courtney isnt in any meetings anymore, it is nice to see we still have that great communication with her during Reviews - Excited for dinner and glad you guys are all coming to the Ghost Tour! Should be a really fun night **Wade** - Team is taking care of business. - Excited about the team dinner/event for Create - Forever People wants to change the db user from `root`. Any expectations with that? **Katie** - +1 Stephen's comments - Very excited for all of our team Create activities ### Learned **Katie** - There are some business descisions that need to be made around session management: should it live in Nitro vs NitroID? If it does live in NitroID, what do we want the user experience to be like? Should it have the Nitro menu bars? How do we tackle permissions? These are just a few of the things that I've thought of that we'll need answered. ### Lacked **Jillian** - conversation around one of the OKRs Jenny wanted in our team connect room. Hope you all are good. Katie not sure if you got any more of an update from Jenny with how she wants to move forward. **Katie** - Agreed with Jillian's comment. Stephen and I had a discussion Wednesday where we got on the same page and discussed the conversation. I feel good about the outcome. We both agreed that neither of the solutions that we proposed are as simple as they seem on the surface, so we're planning to add a spike to help decide how we move forward. --- ## September 18 - September 22, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - Releasing NitroID! - The quick response from the both of you on jumping on those two issues and coming up with a fix. "Login request denied" and redirecting users back to the base url of the app they are coming from - Katie getting on top of the work that is blocking Power Rangers from moving forward with their work - Besides the first two issues we fixed a ton of bugs this week (5 to be exact) - Going over Q4 OKRs! **Katie** - NitroID release went pretty well. It hasn't had to be turned off, so that is a great sign. - Q4 OKR meeting **Wade** - Not having to roll back means it was a good launch. - Loved that the team just dealt with all the things that popped up. Even if there _was_ stress, it didn't feel like it. **Stephen** - As others have already mentioned, solid launch for NitroID! ### Learned **Jillian** - How much work we were actually blocking Power Rangers **Katie** - +1 Jillian's comment. The urgency was _not_ communicated to our team. - Users were not reporting that they were ending up on the NitroID. And that they'll just start trying random things when they end up on a page they're not expecting to be at, like enabling 2fa for themselves. ### Lacked **Jillian** - The communication with Power Rangers as far as what our work is blocking and when they need it. We probably wouldve started this story earlier had we known they havent been able to work at all and it was blocking 50 points or so **Katie** - +1 Jillian's comment - Eternal's ownership of Tempo **Stephen** - Definitely agree with Katie regarding Eternals. Seems like they keep wanting us to fix their app for them. ### PTO **Katie** - 10/13 and 10/16 --- ## September 11 - September 15, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - I like that when I suggested going over OKRs you both had already reviewed it to see if we were on pace and what can be picked up next - Although we didn't ship anything last week for good reason (PTO and running into errors), we surely started this Sprint off great and knew what could be done next - There is a great trend of you both knowing what already needs to be done sometimes not even on the OKR list, but your own knowledge of what needs to be taken care of for less risk when NitroID goes live to the whole company - Feeling better about the Failover after going through it and knowing it will definitely be down to 5-10 min once we run it again and feel more comfortable with it - We achievd a lot this week. Last Sprint was just a short week and a lot of PTO and bigger stories that definitely needed more than 2 days of working on and testing. - I am happy that Courtney is going to get some time back for her work. I know how busy she is and there is no sense keeping people when they don't need to be here (although I will miss seeing her dearly) **Wade** - I believe our failover test was successful overall. We expect a short downtime, which we had, even with some extra issues that weren't anticipated. **Stephen** - We got a lot knocked out this week and are in good shape for next Wednesday. Fingers cross nothing breaks. - TempoID went down during the failover, but it was good to learn about the misconfigured CNAME ahead of time before we launch. **Katie** - +1 Stephen + Wade's comments - Most folks have started to use NitroID in review / QA without any complaints ### Learned **Wade** - During our failover test we learned that we can't reliably depend on Ben Langfeld being available in a pinch. SRE's can provide a backup but we can't be utterly dependent upon a single person in the failover pipeline. - We should have a sufficient staging environment for testing outages in the future. ### Lacked **Jillian** - Accidentally taking down TempoID during the failover, but we knew right away why and how to avoid that moving forward. **Stephen** - While the failover test was eventually successful, it highlighted the need for automation. We need some sort of Kuberentes operator to run those scripts for us. I'm curious if Forever People are planning on creating one. - People seem to still be having a hard time with local development credentials. It would be nice if we could provision those in the setup script somehow. **Katie** - +1 to Stephen's comment about local credentials. That support was important, but took up a lot of time this week. Automation would be preferable over assuming people read the docs. ### PTO --- ## September 4 - September 8, 2023 ### Liked **Jillian** - Katie great job with communicating with Jay, Levy and Francisco to ensure testing went smoothly. **Wade** - That we're in a good spot to not panic about turning on NitroID for the company. **Katie** - NitroID login for Mexico went really smoothly and no complaints from BT so far **Stephen** - Agreed with Katie. I was preparing for at least one incident. ### Learned **Katie** - Never worked with shell scripts before this week. Got to learn a little bit about that ### Lacked **Wade** - While we seem to have DB replication to GM from HQ, how do we acheive confidence in our setup and recovery? **Katie** - +1 Wade's comment --> https://nitro.powerhrg.com/runway/backlog_items/SHD-382 - I am glad the mobile teams are testing the new token authentication endpoint, but I wish there had been better communication around coordinating that testing - The ability to test the auth flows in our local environments --> https://nitro.powerhrg.com/runway/backlog_items/SHD-362 ### Upcoming PTO --- ## August 28 - September 1, 2023 ### What you liked **Katie** - Collaborating with Carlos **Carlos** - All the collaboration was and has been really good, thank you all, @Katie and @Stephen in special. **Courtney** - Posting updates when we are light on people for standup. - Katie's communication on forgot passphrase. She is bringing up states that we need to consider and figure out and I like that we are doing it together. - Getting Create Client Credentials handoff completed. Steady progress moving work forward with my other responsibilities. **Jillian** - Katie did a great job with taking over the last token story and coordinating with Jay Chen and Levy - Lots of great discussions in SHIELD and making sure everyone understood reasoning for Carlos' SCIM story ### What you learned **Carlos** - A lot about SCIM and Nitro ID - How Nitro and Tempo use Nitro ID, how Nitro ID works under the hood and etc **Katie** - I may have jury duty next Wednesday. I will find out Tuesday night. **Courtney** - Already know this but, that handoffs will most likely never include everything that you need to do for a given feature and collaboration is key! ### What lacked --- ## August 21 - August 25, 2023 ### What you liked **Jillian** - Katie helping with the last token story while Stephen is out - Carlos having great communication with the team and always running by possible solutions before implenting them, or always asking for code reviews and reviews during testing **Katie** - Feels good to have the passphrase email work started ### What you learned ### What lacked **Katie** - Getting support from SRE can be a painfully slow process - (Jillian): This is good to know and I can bring this up in our scrum master meeting tomorrow 8/29 --- ## August 14 - August 18, 2023 ### What you liked **Wade** - That it was so quick to make TempoID available outside of the VPN after they moved Tempo out from behind it. **Katie** - We've been making quick progress of getting introspection ready for the mobile teams to use - Carlos created a spike for SCIM using a gem we'd looked at last year that looks really slick. There's been a lot of development done in the gem since we made the determination not to use it. It should really simplify the endpoints we already have. **Stephen** - Like Katie said, we're close to having things ready for the mobile team. **Jillian** - Moving along throught the token work and only 2, 5pt stories left to finish! Everyone will be happy to hear this - Katie moving along through those forgot passphrase email work! - Courtney working on her designs and collaborating with the business in order to ensure everything is accounted for **Courtney** - Appreciated the message from Jenny on some copy and making sure I take into account that 2FA is handled by title requirements. That was a good reminder. - Fun collaborating with Katie this week and testing some of the forgot passphrase screens. ### What you learned **Wade** - I seem to primarily encounter a bug when I'm not paying close enough attention to be able to reproduce it. **Katie** - BenefitSolver does not support single sign out :/ - Chatting with Stephen this week really helped me to deepen my understanding of networking in kube **Stephen** - Ingress in Kubernetes has the ability to rate limit requests which will allow us to protect some of our more sensitive endpoints from fishing. **Courtney** - As we are starting to implement UI, we are learning things a long the way and may need to change some things on the fly which is okay! ### What lacked **Katie** - Coordination with making Tempo accessible outside the VPN - Maybe there was a knowledge gap somewhere, but the transition could have been smoother if we had known this change was happening ahead of time. Luckily like Wade said, it was fast to fix --- ## August 7 - August 11, 2023 ### What you liked **Wade** - Seems like BenefitSolver is good to go. **Carlos** - Getting Audiences out to a separate repo - Getting our workflows out to a separate repo (maybe?) **Katie** - New team logos are looking good 😎 - This new retro format - Finishing the integration with BenefitSolver - Collaborating with Carlos and all around addressing technical debt as it comes **Stephen** - BenefitSolver is working. - Fixed the issue where 2FA codes were not sending. **Jillian** - Completed BenefitSolver work. Glad to see (at least it seemed) there was good communication with David. Never know how working with people outside of the company will go **Courtney** - Starting to complete handoffs for nitroID! Woohoo! ### What you learned **Wade** - Ryan somehow intentionally chooses to lay down fresh sod in the middle of the Texas summer when it's over 105 degress out. **Carlos** - A little bit about Docker networks - Our new CBTO/CTO/Tim - What is going on with Phoenix **Katie** - There are two SRE projects that use Nitro's SAML implementation that should migrate to using NitroID - Ben would like BenefitSolver to support single sign out if they support it ### What lacked **Wade** - Didn't pose any issues, but with both Katie and Stephen out on Monday, it exposed us to a hole in support availability. Stephen was able to jump in if needed, but we probably should have some plan or support playbook others can refer to if the team is out. **Katie** - Health and wellness!! - +1 to Wade's comment above --- ## July 31 - August 4, 2023 ### What went well? **Jillian** - on top of the SAML/BenefitSolver work. Just need to test logging in and we will be done! - Overall good sync with Power Rangers and Rogue on API. Good to have that support for leadership to make that a priority and thanks Stephen for picking that work up right away **Wade** - We're hopefully at the point where we've tied up loose ends from things so we can focus on what we need to do for the mobile apps. **Courtney** - Carlos officially a SHIELD member?! woohooo - Great communication in Connect! **Stephen** - Carlos has been doing a great job updating and optimizing SCIM. - Backchannel logout updates are done. Things are much more efficient now. ### What can improve? **Wade** - This week felt like it had a bit of support/planning work. Assuming support will be pop up more-and-more, any changes to weekly flow worth discussing or planning for? **Courtney** - Ability to time block & context switch better throughout the day. **Stephen** - Testing SAML in production feels slow and messy. In hindsight, we should have created a review environment for testing beforehand. ### What is important? **Wade** - Getting the mobile apps NitroID enabled should be the primary focus at this point until it's done. **Courtney** - World Cup game is early Sunday! We lose we go home. Who is getting up early to watch? **Jillian** - 4th time seeing Metallica this weekend with my brother! Show is tonight and sunday evening with first level seating so we are STOKED - Changing retro to 11am ! --- ## July 24 - July 28, 2023 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Thank you Katie for helping with Power Rangers. They gave you kudos as well - Thanks Katie and Stephen for being ontop of the SAML work and Stephen taking that over while Katie is out on PTO **Wade** - Finishing up SAML and dealing with the differences that the BenefitSolver threw at us. - Updating Tempo's backchannel stuff so we don't have to worry about it later or when the Eternals team might get around to it. **Stephen** - Agreed with Wade. Knocking out the Tempo backchannel work will prevent a lot of headaches later on. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - Power Rangers work getting pushed back due to unforeseen issues arising on their part **Wade** - I feel like we should have probably known or realized before now about how Connect and the Mobile app were going to need to communicate with Nitro to be better prepared for planning. ### Anything important? **Wade** - I'll be working at the PHX office Mon-Wed. I'll drive down after standup Monday. ## July 17 - July 21, 2023 ### What went well? **Wade** - One-time-code being auto-filled from Safari desktop! If something makes Tim happy we all should be. **Jillian** - Pretty smoothe Sprint from what I saw despite being out sick and Katie not feeling well - Courtney making great progress with her designs and being on top of questions she has for the developers **Stephen** - Got our production mail credentials created. **Courtney** - Another week of great feedback from you all! Thanks for answering all my questions. - Loved testing & chatting through nitroID & Figma with Katie! **Katie** - The nitroID mail server is *finally* ready! - Kudos to Stephen for hopping in to help with the SAML cert issues. I didn't even have to ask for his help. Excellent team work. - Felt like we had a lot of spinning plates this week and I think we did a great job handling everything. ### What can improve? **Wade** - How we deal with certs in our config files. **Stephen** - Agreed with Wade. Setting certs as environment variables is currently messy. **Katie** - +1 to all the above. Dealing with those certs was not fun. ### Anything important? **Wade** - I'll be at the PHX office 7/31-8/2 with Alberto Bengoa. Both to observe as he sets up the new DB server hardware and also just to keep him company. **Courtney** - World CUP! This week she really heard me out and helped me to greatly improve my in-office interactions with Kevin around Tempo ID. - Aaron Kuehler being back at Power. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - Don't forget chores are 0 points so put all pointed tickets in as stories - Have to communicate when we ship stories. Again the story was in progress when it should’ve have been in Review than moved to Done. This process is important and we can’t forget to move tickets on the board accordingly. ### Anything important? **Wade** - I have PTO Aug 22-30. **Katie** - I have a few long weekends coming up in August. --- ## July 5 - 7, 2023 ### What went well? **Wade** - Just learned that Power Rangers is ready to test mobile impersonation. - SAML progress seems fast and steady. **Jillian** - short week. Hope he's doing better! - There was some container problems this past week was there anything with all that related to NitroID/TempoID that we need to address or plan for? **Jillian** - Tucker will be wearing the cone of shame until further notice. lol He is a little depressed, but he is getting plenty of cuddles, peant butter, and even got a new Lambchop - What is next now that Power Rangers finished the impersonation work? - Havent heard too much feedback besides "it works" haha I guess that is good enough for us! Wasn't sure if anyone heard anything else? **Stephen** - Backchannel logout is happening twice (thanks Hydra) **Katie** - Having an alternative solution prepared to offer folks managing systems using basic auth in Nitro. ### Anything important? **Jillian** - Thomas Rhett tonight!! **Katie** - I have a few long weekends coming up towards the end of July/beginning of August - Prepping for quarterly OKR review **Carlos** - Thanks Stephen for all the help so far, and Katie for all the help ahead :D ## June 26 - June 30, 2023 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Katie nice job on unblocking yourself with the SAML prototype story. It gets tricky when at first someone is available to help, but then their own priorities cause a blocker for us. Plus, it helped you gain more insight compared to if Alex were to test it - We got Q3 OKRs done! - Stephen kudos to you for shipping a lot this Sprint! **Wade** - Great getting our OKRs done. I feel like maybe it's a little light but I'm not doing the work. We'll see where you get to at the end of Q3. - Feels like a lot of spinning plates but the team is handling it well. **Courtney** - Good OKR discussion! Moving things forward! YAY! - Tim using 2FA - woohoo! **Stephen** - Kudos to Wade for clearing out a ton of useless Nitro sessions. - NitroID seems to be working great for the producteers and scrum masters. No issues reported. **Katie** - Kudos to Stephen for carrying the team while I've been in deep in SAML-land - We did a great job with our Q2 OKRs and got a lot done. I am also feeling good about our OKRs for Q3. - NitroID soft roll out has been going very smoothly ### What can improve? **Jillian** - I know I am getting ahead of myself, but definitely curious what Q4 is going to look like for us. **Courtney** - Can't wait for UI to be implemented for nitroID and tempoID sign in screens! ### Anything important? **Katie** - Everyone enjoying the long weekend and coming back feeling refreshed and ready to take on Q3 --- ## May 26 - June 8, 2023 ### What went well? **Wade** - Happy with where we are with our OKRs for the quarter - Everyone's asking me about SAML so I'm glad we're starting that - 2FA in production is working as expected **Stephen** - Agreed with Wade regarding SAML. - 2FA in Nitro production should make Tim happy. - Been adding some nice optimizations to NitroID (Hydra SQL, new OpenLDAP chart, etc) **Katie** - Agree with Wade on our OKRs. We got a lot done this quarter. - Ditto for SAML. It will hopefully be a straightforward integration. - Our meeting with the mobile team went well and it seems like they have a good understanding of what they need to do now. ### What can improve? ### Anything important? **Wade** - Next weekend is a long July 4th weekend with the Power Birthday day off, as well. **Katie** - Reminder of our meeting with BenefitsSolver after the long weekend ## May 26 - June 8, 2023 ### What went well? **Wade** - The meeting with Tim for rollout. - The Nitro RFC - We've only uncovered the problem, but happy that cleaning up how we store sessions is on the horizon. **Jillian** - Conversation went great with Tim. Nice to see you lead the discussion and everyone had great input - Happy I got a quick start on talking to Jay and Power Rangers to coordinate that work - Discussion with Power Rangers should be a quick one. Thanks Katie for doing that api for them - Stephen thanks for quickly taking care of those bugs - Again, glad we have a launch day and know the next steps **Stephen** - It's nice to see NitroID working in other apps (Huddle) with no issues. - We've done a good job at taking care of Sentry errors as soon as they come up. **Katie** - Rollout meeting with Tim - Feeling proud of the NitroID RFC - We got a lot done this week ### What can improve? **Jillian** - Just staying on top of Power Rangers so they get their work done quick to unblock us fast from moving forward **Katie** - Directing support related conversations to the NitroID Development room ### Anything important? **jillian** - Vacation June 19 - 25 - Power Rangers meeting June 20 --- ## May 12 - May 26, 2023 ### What went well? **Stephen** - Nitro integration code has been added behind a feature toggle. We're very close to our goal. **Courtney** - Getting started on HiFi's and exploring what we could do further for id.powerhrg.com ### What can improve? ### Anything important? --- ## April 28 - May 12, 2023 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Updated logos! Thank you Katie **Wade** - Nice to have Katie back. Hope she feels like she's fully back to work! - Happy to be turning our attention back to Nitro ID - Also optimistic about the Hydra v2 data migration **Katie** - First full week back! It felt great being back to "normal" - Artur was very helpful with supporting the Redis deployment. - Shout out to IgorB to going through the resource quota spreadsheet with me after the majority of my math was incorrect 😅 **Courtney** - 2FA nitroID completed last week. - Even though I would have liked to make more progress, I am glad to see id.powerhrg.com story on the board for myself. Did make small strides. - Glad to be making progress through what is remaining! **Stephen** - Getting started on the Nitro integration feels great. ### What can improve? **Stephen** - While the DB connection issue wasn't catastrophic, it was disappointing that Percona couldn't connect and check it out. We were all under the impression that they had the access they needed. **Wade** - Re: Percona's response. I made my dissappointment clear to our customer service manager. On our part I think we waited a little longer than maybe we should have hopeing that Percona was eventually going to connect and learn something. In this case it wasn't a huge deal as it didn't seem to impact much. Ongoing, I think the team should act with the focus of minimal downtime because at some point soon, we'll have to anyway. **Katie** - It is fun and exciting to be on the cutting edge and pioneering new technologies / strategies in Nitro ID, like the new Redis deployments. I just hope this does not lead to too many serious delays with comittments. - Filling our resource quota spreadsheets 😵‍💫 **Courtney** - Time box id.powerhrg work next week to get more accomplished here. ### What is important? **Stephen** - Before the Nitro rollout, I'd love to test our disaster recovery to see if we're missing anything. **Wade** - I'll be out Mon-Fri 5/22-26 mostly at Percona Live (Denver) but also a day of PTO (wife's bday) **Katie** - +1 to Stephen's comment. Let's plan a fire drill. - Getting all the SCIM and password stuff on the board done, so we are prepared to cut Nitro off from direct LDAP access. **Courtney** - having a plan and executing it! - Connecting with the Denver office this weekend at their social. --- ## April 14 - April 28, 2023 ### What went well? **Courtney** - Create was fun as always! Great seeing all (Wade, Jillian & Stephen) of you in person! - Welcome back Katie! Congrats again! - Working with Wade on developing designs was fun this week!!! **Wade** - Katie's back! Yay! - I think we're done with changes to the tempo repo. - Happy to be able to spend a bit of time with Stephen at Create although most of what he worked ended up not being worth using, although now we know for sure. **Stephen** - It was great seeing everyone at Create. Working with Heroes was really fun even though my attempted DB dump solution failed lol - Nice to have Katie back! **Katie** - Really great to be back, and thanks to the team for helping get me back up to speed quickly. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - I know ewe have been busy , but if we can go through OKRs and point them it will help give a more accurate idea of how many Sprints it will take us and if we need to stay at this pace or hustle more **Courtney** - Kevin took over my UX story. Edited the description with his needs for Tempo, when the story title was for nitroID. I think it's great he is keeping eyes on things that involve Tempo and his team but, I would have liked to create a different story to address his needs! **Wade** - Sorry for taking over Courtney's story. What I thought was a super simple, quick, thing, subverted it into something else. **Stephen** - Tempo has been a pain to work with for everyone on the team. ### What is important? **Courtney** - Continuing to make progress! Next up: Mocks for nitroID 2FA admin (mimic tempoID implementation) & id.powerhrg Interface Design! - I will be OOO for PWI next Thursday and Friday! It should be on the calendar. --- ## Mar 31 - April 14, 2023 ### What went well? **Jillian** - awesome 2 weeks Stephen. Really moving through the work and delivering - Happy Wedding week Katie! - I like that we are tracking tech debt in the backlog **Wade** - Things still moving forward. - Was excited to attend Katie's wedding and meet her friends and family. **Stephen** - Backchannel logout is working! - Far less Stormwatch/Samurai requests - Nitro integration seeming more and more doable by end of Q2. - Thanks to Wade for taking on that 2FA work ### What can improve? **Wade** - I feel I could have communicated some things a bit more thoroughly with Kevin around the addition of the 2FA toggling within Tempo to avoid some confusion there. ### Anything important ? **Jillian** - I will be working from home Tuesday then off Wednesday **Wade** - Next week is Create 2023.4! - Tim's really on us to have Nitro ID turned on or ready to by end of Q2. Let's make sure we have a clear enough understanding of our path to get us there. **Courtney** - Create! I will primarily be with GLC/FINC this week. ## Mar 17 - March 31, 2023 ### What went well? - OKR meeting **Katie** - Getting prepared for our Q2 OKRs - Stephen has been doing SUCH a great job working with Stormwatch on Tempo's mail migration - We did a good job completing our Q1 OKRs. We finished all that we were confident about, and only have a small amount of work carrying over to Q2 **Wade** - I feel Q2 OKRs are keeping us inline with where we need to be with the business. - Just hammering away at things. **Stephen** - No major blockers for Nitro on our end - LDAP backups feel good ### What can improve? **Wade** - Wondering if maybe it would help to set some due dates, even if it's just for ourselves, to target various objectives to make sure we stay on track. Open to thoughts. **Katie** - I like the due dates idea. I'm curious about how we would break that up and determine due dates. **Stephen** - It's surprising that we're not further along with multi- site application deployments ### What is important? **Katie** - Setting up on call coverage for while I am away. (This is taken care of, thanks Stephen!) - I'll be off from 4/6-4/25 🥂💍💐 --- ## Mar 6 - Mar 17, 2023 ### What went well? **Wade** - Glad to know everything seems to be in place to allow Tempo Connect to get activated. **Jillian** - Glad we are staying focused on our OKRs and making great progress each work towards those - I like that we checked in on OKRs and I Think we should do that once a week as a reminder of what we need to focus om - Agree with Wade. Glad to know everything seems to be in place with Tempo Connect **Courtney** - +1 to checking in with OKRs - Glad we could get answers and everyone informed about Forgot Passphrase for new hires. Hopefully we will see improvement there. - Sign in and out suggestions and screens. Glad to have options to support the business where we need. Continuing forward here with individual handoffs to help support each team where necessary. **Stephen** - Nothing has blown up in a while. **Katie** - Getting very close to finishing our OKRs! +1 Wade and Jillian on Tempo Connect being in a good spot - Communication within the team has been really great. It's been helping us to stay on track with what the business needs most at this time, so we can make better decisions about the work we are starting. - Testing with Eternals has been very smooth ### What can improve? **Wade** - Adding retro notes pror to 5 minutes before retro? **Jillian** - Yea we definitely shouldn't be waiting until the last second to add notes. I will start updating this sheet after retro for the next one so you can all add in notes over the 2 Sprints. There is no way we remember what we did 2 weeks Prior haha **Courtney** - Time managment and making sure I am dedicating enough here for OKR progress and progress in general. **Stephen** - I'm currently writing this 10 minutes before retro. Feels bad. - Some things just don't work with OIDC. We need an alternative (like SAML) for apps that don't have OIDC support. **Katie** - I also waited entirely too long to add my retro notes 😓 - It would be nice if there were a way to test renovate config changes before merging them - 3AM PD alerts :) (sink with Ben Langfeld about shifts) ### Anything important? **Wade** - Next week I'll be at Leadership Thu/Fri. **Jillian** - A couple more information PWI sessions throughout March every Thursday at 12pm in btdemos! **Courtney** - Getting involved with Denver office more. Went to a HH last night and was fun to see everyone. They are very welcoming! **Stephen** - It might be a good idea to start look at Q2 OKRs soon as we seem to be getting a decent amount of feature requests (SAML, API auth, M2M, etc) **Katie** - Setting up some time to discuss Q2 OKRs so we can make sure we're spending our effort in the right places - I will be out for a few hours Thursday 2/23. ## Feb 17 - March 3, 2023 ### What went well? **Katie** - Big SCIM story is merged :') - Feels like we've gotten over the biggest hurdles for our OKRs - NitroID Operator overview was insightful - Lately I've felt like we've been working more closely as a team and less in completely separate swim lanes **Stephen** - S C I M - The app is starting to feel more recoverable in the event of a disaster. ### What can improve? **Katie** - I am worried that we will not have business decisions / designs ready in time for us to meet some of our OKRs by the end of the quarter ### Anything important? **Wade**: I was on PTO most of the past 2 weeks so I'll let the team have their say. **Katie**: I have PTO on Thursday starting at 1:30 --- ## Feb 6 - Feb 17, 2023 ### What went well? **Wade** - Databases are getting backed up now! - Tim says logging out of Tempo shouldn't log out of Connect and vice versa. - Meeting with Percona this week seems to have shifted things into gear. **Courtney** - Conversations with the team and Jason + getting answers to influence decisions! - Setting priorities! **Jillian** - Meeting to discuss passphrase flow and session invalidation. Although we have some questions we are doing what we need to do - great Post Mortem on Hydra Upgrade **Katie** - Setting OKRs and prioritizing the work on our backlog - Starting to get clarity around passphrase and logging out / session invalidation **Stephen** - Operator is in a stable state. No stuck namespaces lately. - Backups are *almost* done. ### What can improve? **Wade** - Keeping the database from failing. **Courtney** - Timeline for delivery. Hoping now that we are getting answers to some things, I can fine-tune and create things that we are missing faster. ### Anything important? **Wade**: PTO Tue Feb 21 - Tue Mar 1 **Courtney** - Will be OOO next Friday for PAG. **Katie** - I will be out the second half of the day on Monday, Feb 20 ## Jan 23 - Feb 3, 2023 ### What went well? **Wade** - Solid, steady progress. - Although Tim had his comments that Jenny reported, I feel we were on top of the major notes of it. **Stephen** - Figured out a plan for the Hydra upgrade. Future upgrades should now go a lot more smoothly. - Learned a lot about the inner workings of PXC. **Jillian** - consistency with progress - Stephen and Katie being ahead of the game and adding stories on their own; noticing things that need to be upgraded or fixed, etc. - Communication about testing and launch plans (ex: scim work and hydra upgrade deployment) **Katie** - Made good progress with SCIM this week and have been learning a lot in the process - Ditto what Jillian and Wade said about having most of Tim's feedback on the backlog already **Courtney** - +1 to you all being on top of everyone's feedback and improvements. ### What can improve? **Wade** - Communication with Percona. Not sure where we stand with them currently. I think we silenced the PagerDuty alerts, but unclear what next steps are. **Jillian** - communication about design work. If it does have to be changed why is it so late in the game? **Katie** - I overcomplicated some things with SCIM that would have saved a lot of time. It made for a good learning experience, but looking back I know I could have done some more research upfront to have saved all that time. - Tackling more deployment/environment related stories in the future. It feels like my kubernetes muscles have atrophied. **Courtney** - Communication on what is needed. Why are things changing now at the start of the year? ### Anything important? **Jillian** - I have off 2/13 **Courtney** - I'm off Monday 2/6 ## Jan 9 - Jan 20, 2023 ### What went well? **Jillian** - the launch!! You guys did an awesome job working with Kevin and making sure it was smooth. We only had a couple things after we needed to implement, but nothing to cause a revert. - Stephen taking care of all of those bugs - I know the team had some concerns with handling satellite apps, but thank you Wade for getting clarification and ending up delivering a message the team is happy about (lol) - We have had a great pace with deliverables so lets keep it up and challenge ourselves to increase our throughput and velocity while doing so! **Wade** - Tim seems happy with the launch and if he's happy then we should **all** be happy. - Efforts with setting up stuff with Percona seems to be moving along about like I expect. **Courtney** - Getting feedback from Jason, all of you and looping in other designers on illustrations! Good Week! - Finishing touches on branding is exciting! Can start adding in the background of the branding for 2FA and Change Passphrase. - Stephen, thanks for sending me a list of confirmation toast notifications that we have! Clears things up against the random ones in Nitro. **Katie** - Thank you Wade for hearing the team out and having the discussion with Jenny regarding integration work. I am feeling much better about the scope of our responsibilities after hearing the outcome of that conversation. - Stephen has done a really great job of knocking out bugs and handling the Percona work. Thanks for carrying the team while I've been stuck in the land of SCIM - Shout out to Jillian for being so supportive of the team. Whether it be coordinating with other SMs to help unblock us or something as simple as congratulating us on a successful launch, she has been doing really great at keeping us moving forward. - Courtney has been doing a great job at hustling to coordinate getting designs ready for each app. Really appreciate all the hard work you have been putting in for the team. - The Tempo launch went really well. Despite all his questions, Kevin is happy, and Stream seems to have adopted it without any major issues. **Stephen** - The launch went smoothly. Haven't heard of anything major breaking in Tempo. - Great designs from Courtney. Really looking forward to adding those UI changes. - As Katie said, shoutout to Jillian and Wade for the support and facilitating the team to keep us moving. - A big shoutout to Katie for fielding the 1,000,000,000 questions in the office. That context switching must be tough. - We currently have ZERO reported vulnerabilities in our repo. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - I know we kinda use the active sprint board, but we are a scrum team so lets get into the process of moving tickets across the sprint board for every ticket. - Do you guys think we could have done anything better for the launch? How do we all feel about it? - Getting a ninja **Katie** - Recommitting to Update Mondays - can we add a calendar event to remind ourselves? - Tempo development can be painfully slow - Next week, I want to work on limiting distractions and setting better boundaries **Wade** - Percona is aware that their contact person with us right now is on an opposite timezone with us (in Greece). If that is a problem, I can complain about it. **Courtney** - We still have Forgot Passphrase work to do. NitroID flow blue and TempoID flows teal. **Stephen** - I will be happy when we are fully done working with Tempo. - The Percona operator logs suck. ### Anything important? **Jillian** - well I am planning a dinner for us. Still need to figure out details as far as who can be invited, if we can fly in Wade and Stephen or if we have to wait until Create, etc. Any food preferences?? Italian, steakhouse, etc. **Katie** - I'd like to have a meeting next to document and prioritize tech debt and future work we'd like to address - removing LDAP account manager, expanding SCIM, cleaning up sessions work, planning for HA, etc. Having runway planned out will be helpful. - Moving on from this initial SCIM work 😊 --- ## Jan 3 - Jan 6, 2023 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Made a quick plan for TempoID usage. - Stephen and Katie's idea about the feature toggle for TempoID! - More than enough Tempo Stacks for Eternals and us, but something to always be weary of with how many are being used - Operator is shipped ! - Courtney's branding work! **Wade** - Glad we have a date for Wed Jan 11th for turning this on for TempoID. - Getting Percona involved for DB support. **Courtney** - Finalizing options for nitroID/tempoID login **Stephen** - We have a launch date. Looking forward to being done writing Tempo code (for now). - As Wade said, it will be nice to have Percona support for the DB. - NitroIDClient resource finally in production. **Katie** - Feeling ready for Wednesday launch - Third for Percona DB support ### What can improve? **Wade** - Wish we could have had TempoID turned on by Dec 31st, but schedules.... **Courtney** - Should we have a meeting about what is left on our roadmap to get on the same page for priorities? or only for design stuff would be nice as well. - to answer: We have TempoID branding left to do. (For designs, it is really just finishing up what we have). Other minor changes from Leadership we will wait on. Wade and Jason will most likely discuss tempoID branding and getting that ready to go. lastly, backing up LDAP instance and whatever Percona comes back to us with. **Stephen** - Waiting around for reviews from other teams can be slow. I usually have to resort to being annoying before I see any action. ### Anything important? **Wade** - I'll be traveling next Mon and Fri and will be in Philly Tue-Thu for kick off and working with Tim on a Heroes for Hire project. **Courtney** - Meeting with Jason about designs for login for nitroID/tempoID **Katie** - Staying healthy --- ## Nov. 25 - Dec. 9, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - it is nice to be at the point where we really are just waiting on Eternals so we can go live - just kudos to everyone with all of the hard work over the past couple of months and how well we ended roadblocks or turns in the road. Really stayed agile throughout this entire process! **Wade** - For being ready to turn on Tempo, we're still busy with lots of stuff. - Ditto on everything Jillian said. **Courtney** - Getting back in the swing of nitroID and tempoID branding! **Katie** - Making good progress on some of the nice-to-haves while we wait for Eternals to be ready to go live with Tempo ID - Looking forward to discussing LDAP with SRE - Testing and support from Eternals has been good ### What can improve? **Jillian** - testing what we have earlier so we can ship it, but people had PTO so I think we did what we could have **Wade** - After Thanksgiving every year is a blur so I assume everyone kind of only half works until the end of the year. For me it's quieter so I can get more stuff done. Also a great time to deploy big things as it won't affect quite as many people. **Katie** - Needing SOPS support from folks outside the team to add client secrets for each app we integrate could become cumbersome. ### What is important? **Jillian** - Courtney and Katie enjoy Mexico! - I am off Dec. 20, Dec. 22- Jan 2 **Wade** - I am off Dec 22 - Jan 2 **Courtney** - Jillian and Wade enjoy your time off aroud the Holidays! - Mexico FUN! **Katie** - I am off Dec 27 - Jan 2 - Looking forward to my first Mexico trip in the 5 years I've worked at Power 🏝️ --- ## November 11- 25, 2022 ### What went well? **Wade** - Getting stuff done. Deploying to a review environment and impersonation. **Courtney** - Forgot passphrase handoff completed. - Shoutout to Katie! Nice work on impereonation for tempo. glad i could get Kristi's eyes on it as well from a brand perspective. - looking forward to picking back up branding for nitroID and tempoID **Katie** - Making lots of good progress this week, with getting Tempo ID ready and getting Tempo ready for Tempo ID - Collaboration with Eternals has been going really well, from both delivery and product perspectives - We have been doing a great job at being pragmatic. I think this helps our productivity. ### What can improve? **Wade** - Keeping focus on Tempo. We'll shift to Nitro soon enough. It'll be nice to not have to look back at Tempo once we call it done. **Courtney** - my own roadmap of priorities for UX. I dont want to forget anything. **Katie** - Staying focused on Tempo - Communication with the team regarding ID questions. We should start prompting folks to use the Nitro ID development room, as opposed to one off direct messages or hallway conversations. This should help to keep us all on the same page. ### What is important? **Wade** - I'm on PTO from Dec 22 - Jan 2. **Courtney** - out this friday the 25th, next friday the 2nd and monday the 5th! **Katie** - I'll be onboarding a new dev 12/1 10am-5pm and 12/2 10am-12pm - I'll be on PTO 12/29-1/2 🏝️🍹 --- ## November 7-11, 2022 ### What went well? **Stephen** - 2FA UI work done. We should be ok for Tempo ID, but we'll need to have direction when it comes time to start working on the Nitro side. **Courtney** - Making sure we are clear on the onboarding process for new hires and what the best approach would be if we make some changes to how they create their passphrase and when. - UX Roadmap to set priorities with deadlines and understanding what is left to do. Phases, ect. ### What is important? **Katie** - Staying focused on Tempo ID integration. ## October 31 - November 4, 2022 ### What went well? **Stephen** - Wrapped up the rest of the impersonation stuff. Keep chipping away at the work as best as we can **Courtney** - Completed another Handoff that will help with 2FA. Communication there is good! :) **Stephen** - Lots of 2FA logic tweaked this week. It's now in great shape and ready for the UI handoff to be applied. **Katie** - SCIM building blocks are starting to fall into place. - Our Thanksgiving goal for Tempo feels **Courtney** - Agree with Jillian above! Accomplished every thing that I wanted to. **Stephen** - Last of the impersonation UI work done. Shoutout to Courtney for all the help on that one. **Katie** - Great discussions with Vini and Gabriel around passwords and security. - SCIM is slowly getting there... ### What can improve? **Wade** - Some weeks, things just seem to be working so well, it's hard to find something that could be better... ### What is important? **Jillian** - I will be off Thursday 9-2pm **Courtney** - Communication and pairing! Thanks Katie for pairing on Passphrase requirements. Our sync was short but, it helped so much. --- ## October 3-7, 2022 ### What went well? **Wade** - Loved seeing the SMS message screenshot. Progress! - Feeling better and better about SCIM with the organization/planning efforts this week. - I mean Courtney's hand off for impersonation... Really! **Jillian** - progress is awesome on all fronts. - Katie's efforts to split up the stories and add appropriate tags - Courtney's progress and handoffs **Courtney** - Impersonation Handoff went super well. Glad I could provide a code example to hopefully help the team even more. - Thanks to everyone for listening and being complimentary of the UX Handoff process. - Great communication in our Channel and shoutout to Wade for finding that example "Class in Session" flag that we could try for Impersonatin Signifier! ### What can improve? **Jillian** - continuing this pace. We have great momentum let's not lose it **Courtney** - This being the first time the team is using a UX Handoff, I would love any feedback as you dive into it that could help you better understand/navigate/etc. This will help me to continue to improve our DEV/UX/Team communication. ### Anything important? **Jillian** - create week. Retro will be 12-12:30pm **Courtney** - being in-person for Create! Always a good time. --- ## September 26-30, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Katie you put in a lot of time and effort on the SCIM library so thank you - In addition, your documentation is very well written and easy to read - thank you to everyone for being proactive . I feel like we solve these issues as a team and not individually - Courtney your prototype was top knotch! You were open to feedback and were ready to get the handoffs done - Just feel like were in a good place, and the team is meshing very well. **Wade** - I like that we made a decision about SCIM. At first it felt like it was going to be **much** more effort than I'm currently feeling it's going to take. I still expect it to take time, just not nearly as much as I was originally expecting. - I feel that the team is mostly unblocked on anything relatively quickly. - 2FA is moving along nicely. **Courtney** - Courtney's first retro. YAY! - I am happy with the progress we are making on Impersonation and excited to provided something for the team to tackle during Create. - 2FA Phase 1 is also coming along nicely. - Shoutout to the team for being receptive to my quick presents after standup. **Stephen** - Now that the phone number work has wrapped up, the rest of the 2FA work should be relatively easy. - scim-pickens is a great name. **Katie** - Very appreciative of all of the support around the SCIM work, internal and external to the team. We were able to make the most of pivoting away from Syncope. - 2FA is in a good place! - Courtney is pragmatic and responsive to the needs of the team, and she delivered some really great handoffs this week. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - I would like to start seeing updates on the tickets. I always think, "If someone were to look at our tickets years from now, would they be able to tell what we did?" In addition, this will help me give more accurate updates. **Wade** - I feel we may have been able to make the SCIM decision maybe a week earlier, but I'm curious looking back, if there was an earlier point in time the team felt we could have made that call. - Are we splitting stories up sufficiently? It may be my perception because SHEILD's board is so sparse where we need a filter on Heroes with all the stories there. **Courtney** - Continued improvement on communication and the needs of the team for specific phases/tests we are wanting to accomplish. **Stephen** - We shouldn't rely on external repositories if we can help it. Things like Helm charts should be stored in Harbor. - Nitro development is very slow. **Katie** - +1 to not relying on external repositories where possible. I've gotten 20+ PagerDuty alerts per day since we initally noticed issues with our openldap pod in staging. Addressing the few infrastructure issues we have (CI/logging) will take care of this. - Should we fill out retro notes for the past 2 weeks for each retro? If so, than I could be doing a much better job at that 😳 ### Anything important? **Jillian** - still waiting for a move in date, UGH. lol **Courtney** - costume creation for Halloween. haha **Katie** - Staying hydrated, eating vegetables, wearing sunscreen, and just generally taking care of ourselves 🙂 - Can we add a 5 minute alert to the retro calendar event? --- ## September 19-23, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - We had a great sync with Courtney and I feel so much better about where we are as a team not just the technical side of it **Wade** - Love the focus on Syncope and MFA we've had this week. - Also the interaction regarding the UI for 2FA and impersonation. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - Jason and Tim being on the same page earlier at the start rather than later and Courtney already doing more than she needs too (I know she is stressed so this could have saved her some mental capacity) **Wade** - UX and the team seems in sync now, but what did we miss previously and what clicked to initiate the turnaround this week? ### Anything important? **Jillian** - James and I got a place so as soon as I find out when we can move in I will be taking a week off (it will be last minute so here is a heads up now). Hopefully in the next two weeks or so --- ## September 12-16, 2022 ### What went well? **Wade** - Awesome to be able to test MFA to get that really started. - Overall, feels like the team has stepped into Phase II (MFA / Tempo integration) **Jillian** - MFA progress! **Stephen** - Very happy to get 2FA working in NitroID. The good news is that each piece (Devise, 2FA, auth flow, UI, etc) won't be too difficult to implement properly once we break everything up into separate stories. **Katie** - Really great week for the team. We made a lot of progress with our clean up and getting started with Phase II. - Shout out to Stephen for having a really productive week! - Onboarding with Taylor went well. He was really impressed with our documentation and automation tools. ### What can improve? **Wade** - I see from last week about getting some answers from Tim. I know we want to know if MFA is going to be required or option. If there's anything else, maybe we should keep a list of "Questions for Tim" around that I can send Laura. - Are we going to get blocked on login UI from UX? **Katie** - Context switching is hard. ### What is important? **Wade**: I don't feel there's much distraction, but keep our eyes on Phase II. If anyone asks about dates, keep in mind time off for Create and any PTO anyone has coming up. I usually treat Q4 as if it's 2 months rather than 3. **Stephen**: We haven't miss anything yet, but now that NitroID is being adopted by apps (Portal and CI so far), we should pay extra attention to the Renovate PRs for breaking changes. When Renovate has multiple minor upgrade PRs open at once, it can be easy for major upgrade to be overlooked. **Katie** - Upvote for Wade and Stephen's comments. - As we progress through the 2FA, we should start thinking about how we'll tackle Tempo integration. - Shout out both Wade and Stephen for attending the PWI Summit recap this week. Your presence, allyship, and support are very much appreciated. ## August 29 - September 2, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - working on finishing cleanup stories and starting phase 2! **Katie** - I am feeling good about where we are at with the cleanup work. **Stephen** - We're in a good spot to start the initial MFA work. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - seems like we need more answers around credentials from Tim and how he wants that handled **Katie** - Are we at a point where we need to increase the limit of Milano stacks we have for Nitro ID. It is currently set to 4. - Agreed with Jillian's comment. It would be nice to have an answer around how we want to handle the issuing of local credentials. ### What is important? **Jillian** - Katie, Courtney and myself will be at PWI Sep 8-11 **Katie** - Getting started on the research stories for phase 2 so we can have a better idea of what the actual work will look like. - Application namespaces for APP got moved to this repo: https://github.com/powerhome/app-namespaces **Stephen** - We should start pushing teams to use the NitroID operator instead of manually creating OAuth2 clients for their review environments. ## August 22-26, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - great strides made this week - finishing up cleanup work - feeling good with our due date being the end of October **Katie** - Getting clarity around our next due date. ### What can improve? ### What is important? - Finishing the cleanup / infrastructure work. --- ## August 15-19, 2022 ### What went well? **Wade** - I feel like we have a decent runway for the upcoming weeks. The big story will be the MFA one which will spawn a lot of other stories and tell us how long that epic should take. **Stephen** - Operator deployed and should be functional by the end of the day. - As Wade mentioned, we have a good amount of cleanup stories to get through, then we can focus on MFA. **Katie** - Wrapping up the operator and impersonation to fully finish phase 1. - Organizing the backlog and prepping for phase 2. ### What can improve? **Wade** - You tell me. Are we on a path to better? My primary contribution is keeping the team happy and productive. What can I help with? **Katie** - Working through the planning stories and understanding more about how we will approach MFA and Tempo integration. ### What is important? **Wade**: I'll be back Friday Sept. 2nd. I will be checking Connect maybe during evenings, but that's it. --- ## August 1- 5, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - no stories left in queued with an entire Sprint left! **Wade** - We have a functional review environment with Nitro ID!! - Have a focus beyond phase I for MFA and Tempo integration. **Stephen** - Almost done with Phase 1. The rest of the work should be pretty simple. - Operator development has been slow, but will make things a lot easier. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - Make sure we have a good plan for Phase 2 **Stephen** - It's difficult to accurately estimate stories for NitroID as there are many unknowns. ### What is important? --- ## July 27- 29, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - efficient week with PTO - Katie working through that UI story! **Wade** - Moving forward there's going to be a focus on MFA and getting Tempo working with Nitro ID which is intended to unlock Connect V3 for them. ### What can improve? **Wade** - COVID and Lucas V.'s last week on Heroes distracted me from spending much time with any SHIELD related stuff. Next week I'd like to meet about what's next. ### What is important? **Wade**: I'm on PTO from Aug 22-Sep 1. --- ## July 18-22, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Great week! Delivered more this week nice job everyone - Feel better after our discussion on Monday about what work is left for Phase 1 and when we are doing Multi-Authentication ### What can improve? ### Anything important? --- ## July 11-15, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Meeting with Ben and Wade gave me more insight into our goals and roadmap for Phase 1. Starting to feel more comfortable with understanding of NitroID - Thank you for creating more stories in the backlog for the team Ben! ### What can improve? ### What is important? ### Happiness Scores **Stephen**: - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to your role and why. - - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to the Company and why. - - What will make you happier next sprint. - **Katie** - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to your role and why. - - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to the Company and why. - - What will make you happier next sprint. - --- ## July 4-8, 2022 ### What went well? **Jillian** - Great first (short) week with the team. - Thank you for being open to adding in more "scrum" to the team. I know this will help us stay focused and organized that way we can be efficient as possible as a team! **Wade** - I'm still just trying to get a handle on what's going on. Pairing with Stephen Greer and helping test things in general though is probably the most helpful thing I can do right now for myself. **Stephen** - Getting the omniauth-nitro-id gem finished and published gets us one step closer to making NitroID more "plug and play" for Rails apps. **Katie** - It's been great having Wade and Jillian on the team. ### What can improve? **Jillian** - My knowledge around NitroID. Going to watch the lunch and learn since I was on PTO that day. - Very confused with Ben's position in all of this, but after speaking to Jenny he is still involved with this team. He is not fully stepping away. **Wade** - Like Jillian, my knowledge around NitroID, but less from an end-user perspective than how it works and what objectives the team feels it needs to target for Q3 2022. **Stephen** - Similar to Wade, it would be nice to have a clearer roadmap so we have a better idea of what our targets are. **Katie** - Agreed with everyone above on clarity for the roadmap and goals for the team. - There is an opportunity to improve the Playbook documentation around integration - compatibility with Javascript tooling, required plug-ins, etc. I've talked to Jasper about this in the past, and the UX team is working on an overhaul of the Playbook website and documentation. I look forward to seeing this in the future. ### Anything important to add? **Jillian**: Remember, I will send out retro tool next week, but we will NOT have a retrospective. **Wade**: I'll be out on PTO on Monday July 11th and be working from Las Vegas Tues-Thu next week. ### Happiness Scores **Stephen**: - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to your role and why. - 4.5 - Short week and no complaints. - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to the Company and why. - 4.5 - Short week and no complaints. - What will make you happier next sprint. - A full team discussion around our roadmap and objectives. **Katie**: - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to your role and why. - 4 - clarification around team goals and our roadmap would make me feel more content in my role. - On a scale of 1 to 5 rate your happiness in regards to the Company and why. - 4.8 - the extra holiday for Power's birthday was a nice addition. - What will make you happier next sprint. - Agreed with Stephen on having the roadmap discussion. Finding time to have a conversation with Carlos regarding NitroSearch. ---
