TODO:
1. Describe what we want, make a webpage for it on the OMI website (?) so we can point poeple to something to generate excitement and conversation.
1. Make a rough monthly schedule of events, to build the float and parade scenery step by step. E,g. one month, build the vehicle, one month build avatars, one month build textures, one month build scenery, one month have workshop about how to make content.... Inspired by Baltimore bikeparties, Ciclovia, other monthly real life recurring community initiatives. So figure out what is a good sequence of steps.
# What is this celebration about?
### Community Celebration
The main goal of this event is to celebrate with the global community of artists, tinkerers, hackers, players and professionals. While there is a large event in October 2024, this initiative is designed to be built together with monthly gettogethers (link to schedule) to build our floats together.
### Assets, protocols and specification testing
Another large goal is to build assets and test the protocols to ensure interoperability. glTF specs are a large focus of the current work in OMI, hence we decided to have floats to test vehicle protocols (more info link). Anyone wanting to contribute to the glTF specs are invited to join the working group (link to github and discord)
### Research
This event is held in conjuction with an academically minded in-person conference planned for São Miguel, Azores in October 2024, focussed on maintaining community in digital public spheres ([early draft link](https://hackmd.io/@indiebio/digital-public-spheres)).
# Who is this event for?
This event is open to everyone. Individuals, teams, corporate members, community groups, anyone and everyone can submit an entry. The event is designed for content creators and developers, and any level of experence is welcome.
Registration will be required for our information, and some moderation may be required, but everyone is welcome.
While the host group OMI is passionate about open source and interoperability, creators can use whatever formats, protocols, and licensing for assets they wish. This will allow the community to learn about interoperability across these areas.
# What will the event have (better words needed)
1. The actual parade with floats
2. The scenery around the parade
3. Assets that are created remain in the world and (is intended at least) to be re-used anywhere
4. Limited poster advertising, balancing corporate ads with community ads. (link to follow)
5. Booths for anyone, particularly nonprofit, education, community organisations (Link for more info)
6. Portals to other worlds
7. Market for assets (Link)
8. Junk yard for abandoned assets (Link)
9. Thrift shop for free stuff (Link)
10. Music (Link, work in mtv69's stuff)
11. Notice boards for help needed, job board, find a team etc
12. Metaverse library/blockbuster to find how to guides, videos, etc
# Cost to enter
It is free to register and submit assets. The event will be free to attend and (maybe) no registration to be a spectator? Some aspects and mini events may require payment.
# Sponsorship
(We need a prospectus with benefits?)
# Advertising
# Calender of events
Times are in UTC (link to converter)
### Basic format (some events may differ)
1. Events will be recorded and edited for marketing...
2. The mini-events as well as the final float parade will happen in [Hyperfi/omi ](https://hyperfy.io/OMI) and chats in this dedicated Discord channel (link)
3. Knowledge sharing delivered by people who are working on this.
4. Demo show and tell
5. Troubleshooting, Q&A
6. Find like-minded people, join teams
7. These events can be duplicated and can be run by other groups too
8. The dates and topics are subject to change based on the needs of the community.
9. How long are these mini events? I imagine something like a week-long hackathon, but the actual knowledge sharing "formal" things maybe 2 hours of scheduled time on a Saturday??
10. Each event needs to have a completed template on its own event page, which addresses these questions:
1. What are we learning?
2. Why?
3. What is the objective?
4. What prior knowledge is required?
5. Who exactly is the intended audience?
1. Internal preparation:
1. Know what you want to achieve and when.
2. Understand who you're teaching and what they know already.
3. Find a fun example to work with.
4. Create a friendly competition between groups.
(I just populated this, there's no rhyme or reason to the schedule yet! - 20july2023)
