We have to condense down to 5 channels. Here's my proposed mapping from the old to new channel list, including the use of threads. ### Old Channel List: ![](https://i.imgur.com/1nFPkx9.png) - too many channels, we need 5 max ### Proposed Channel list: 1. Academy-start-here - holds who's who for that season, academy explanation, AND thread index (only for ongoing threads) with links, academy role-select 2. Academy-voice - required for synchronous working sessions -- will be used throughout week 3. Academy-governance - combined channel for coordination and polls - actual coordination issues can be broken into their own threads in this channel as needed - illustrators and role-holders can be maintained as read-only for most people, but requires a permission change for this channel, see [note here](https://hackmd.io/5AjhU_7hShyI9Ln9nlHlgA#Read-only-threads) - threads: - illustrators - role-holders - ad hoc issue-specific threads 4. Academy-workgroups - the meat and potatos of academy 💪 - threads: - content - design - dev - marketing - product design - video - **should threads be alphabetical or the order that content is created?** 5. Academy-general - for announcements or things that cross outside the bounds of the workgroups threads ## Revised proposal - #academy-start-here (read-only) - coordination thread (read-only) - #academy-general - poll-discussion thread (individual poll) - #academy-content - general thread - per course threads - illustration thread - video thread - #academy-platform - general thread - UI/UX thread - Dev thread - product thread - #academy-voice ### Academy roles - allow posting in read-only threads - role 1 - role 2 - cleanup/delete a few to make space for new `@academy-role-holder` role ### long-term solution - new academy server? # For Mr. Frog ## channels to KEEP, DO NOT DELETE - #🖌academy-illustrators_read-only - #👉academy-start-here - #🤝academy-coordination - #📝academy-content - academy voice ## archive messages all the other channels/threads - test channel #academy-design THEN ![](https://i.imgur.com/LAwTJgq.gif) # Discussion We do lose the role-holder-only talk channels in this new model but with the ability to create focused threads I believe we can achieve the same sort of clutter-free discussion if everyone uses the threading feature inside of general channel for things that are outside the scope of the active workgroups threads. They can still be threads within academy-coordination, but everyone will be able to post there. ## Read-only threads If there is desire to still maintain a place that the general academy cannot post in, that can be achieved with adding a denial override for "Send messages in Threads" permission for @everyone in the channel those role-holder-only threads are in. This does complicate things slightly by have different permissions for that specific channel but is easily done once and then unchanged. It will prevent general academy from posting in coordination threads besides those two threads however.
