Layer zero blockchains resonate with the maxim that "software is eating the software that is eating the world".[^1] In-house, custom built software, has been consumed by enterprise spanning, platform-based solutions. Software platforms reduce complexity and enable niche solutions to be created at scale. For many, however, software is not only about solving problems. Software is also about well-crafted solutions.[^2] > It's important to ground these aims in craftsmanship and the simple joy of having built something not just functional, but imbued with care and elegance. The effort to construct each piece of a system to be in alignment with the others is a source of pride. The above Apple-esque words, were the expression of personal opinion, in a post about Sharding and Economic Security.[^3] The inclusion of this opinion, in a largely technical document, is why Polkadot was chosen over other layer zero blockchains. <br/> [^1]: Eckhardt, Jon.
