--- title: TAUMs Short description: INTRODUCTION TO PROTOTYPING - Versión reducida de Taums autors: Santifu --- # TAUMS (The Almost Useful Machines) TAUMs is a practical and intensive three (3) days experimental program into fabrication, physical computing and introduction to the Fab Lab environment. It has been designed to fill knowledge gaps and aimed to prepare students to succeed and improve their experience in rapid prototyping. We will be going over the basic skills needed to tinker, develop and fabricate almost anything in a Fab Lab, as well as how to manage time and resources necessary to its proper operation. We will offer an impact experience, seeking to inspire and motivate the participants to use the possibilities of digital manufacturing and technologies to prototype, design, fabricate and program an “honest” mechanical artifact that “makes” something. <iframe src="https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/e/2PACX-1vRyQKS85NnBc4S5uAb55T07fBJ2jmfyHhNn8qkmlG78iN6x7oSDbtSSEr4rc3KHM9uvxBbj0exAWYta/embed?start=false&loop=false&delayms=3000" frameborder="0" width="760" height="469" allowfullscreen="true" mozallowfullscreen="true" webkitallowfullscreen="true"></iframe> ## Forensics of the obsolescence :::info **Professors:** Santi(Intro), Mikel y Victor **Duration:** Tue 11th, 15:00 to 19:00 **Topics:** Volts, Watts and waterfalls, From physics to information, From ideas to code ::: ![](https://i.imgur.com/qTf9hmv.png) We spend our lives interacting with objects and interfaces who’s underlying technology we hardly understand, not merely due to their complexity but also because they were intended to be closed by design. Using reverse engineering techniques, we try to reveal the original motivations that led to design and production decisions. #### Content: - Unpacking (I know whats inside) - Disassemble (I’m not afraid of exploring) - Forensic (I know what I have) ## The right to hack :::info **Professors:** Guillem (case study - smart citizen + prototipado) Mikel & Josep **Duration:** Wed 12th, 15:00 to 19:00 **Topics:** Physical computing ::: ### Description: Through the idea of hacking, we will explore the internal components building everyday objects, from coffee machines to wi-fi networks, while learning how to use open software and hardware tools to change the way they work and interface with the world. ### Content: - In-Control (I built something I trust) - What to do with these parts (Beta devices) - Ideation systems ## Rethink and reconnect :::info **Professors:** Santi(Case study), Mikel & Victor + Adai **Duration:** Thu 13th, 10:00 to 19:00 **Topics:** Digital fabrication, tinkering, design ::: ![](https://i.imgur.com/944c1aR.jpg) Tinker new integrated systems combining at least one input and one output from the new contexts you have worked on. Take into account the design principles discussed above. * Honesty * Simplicity * Useless * Processes Artifact: 1 input + 1 output + digital fabrication #### Content: - Design without design (I learn how to built connected systems) - Integration of devices (I build something that works)
