## Session 3 - setting the scene - a recap of earlier sessions (Completed in silo by Engie):
A quick recap of earlier sessions - in session one, we came together and got a shared understanding of the past and present state of our collective journey as part of Ahau.
We came away knowing we are all together on this bus and some shared themes of our future vision we came up with:
**Themes:**
- community
- indigenous community
- looking after our own, and strengthening global communities
- justice and equality
- not necessarlily fighting the “wrong”
- instead give power to build the “right”
- agency / self determination / tino rangatiratanga
- power to do this
- tools to support this
- contributions
- accessibility
- platforms
- ability to contribute
- identity / knowing self
- Coordination

In session 2, we started the discussion answering two questions - if someone gave us $1M now, what would you do with it and what are the opportunities.
**Key points:**
- Please do [read up on Jo’s great response: https://sharing.incommon.love/6OCwUpo3yAyDpv]. She went indepth and provided a lot of context and detail well worth the read. Ngā mihi e hoa!
- Ahau Ltd has been very focused on software and not on business development. ii.e adoption, revenue, governance. We need to direct focus on building the org development, capability and communications
- Succession planning and resilience
- Platform resilience
- invest time into restructuring our dev processes, migrate to using other tools for how task management, maintenance, testing, mobile dev, or just start a whole new app.
- Support current whānau and future whānau
- Bridging the digital divide
- Have a solid foundation, and need a clear future direction
- Tell our story! i like spell casting because they create magic but you need to be careful with spells because they can have negative side effects
- we cant cast a spell safely because we dont have the ingredients
- the spell would be “community defined identity” can and should be done us in Aotearoa
- this is important piece of work
- Could support fundraising
- Put majority of the money in a high interest earning account while we plan for the future
Following answering the two questions and sticking with our ‘Bus’ analogy, we flowed into what ‘Bus’ modifications will need to happen to make our shared vision a reality?
<br/>
We wrote up suggestions of what bus modifications (meaning business structures), we had 11 suggestions surface and the options we landed on were:
1. Start a Coop
1. Start a Ltd & Register a charity (once a fund we create is at $500,000)
1. Set up a Wyoming based C-corp
1. Start a new OpenCollective / Gift Collective Fund holder or commondeer the existing Digital Aotearoa Collective CPR
1. Setup a dao
1. LLC + DAO
## Session 3 - preparation mahi:
I feel there’s a need now to start to bring some structure to our strategy sessions and what I’d like us to do, in preparation for Thursday 7 Sept, is take the time to answer the questions below.
I’ll provide some suggestions, and room for your answers.
Dialling back to figure out the roles, purpose, values and ways we will make decisions in regards our Strategy Sessions, will help us with taking the nexts steps and support us to then (in either session 4 or 5) delve into the 6 potential business structures we highlighted in session 2.

- **Problem Statement:**
- Māori / Indigenous communities have faced cultural erosion, lack of access to resources, and exclusion from global systems that support economic and social well-being. This leads to a vicious cycle of poverty, marginalization, and loss of cultural heritage.

### 3. What are our shared values for our strategic mahi?
- Have a think about this team, however, this will be one of the opening exercises for our hui on Thursday.
### 4. How do we want to make decisions?
- **Team Action:**
- Please have a read of this [‘Making decisions’ section](https://github.com/CoMakery/self-organization-constitution/tree/master/citizen-code-constitution-example#making-decisions) from the Co-Makery self organised example to give you ideas to contribute.
- Have a think about this team and note down any points for you in preparation. This will also be a discussion point / activity for us to go through on Thursday.
For the 2 hours session, I think that is plenty for us to discuss and work through.
If we aren’t able to get through all of this by end of session Thursday, I’d like to volunteer to facilitate Session 4
Ngā mihi maioha team,
Engie
