# **Brown bear** (_**Ursus arctos**_)
It is a large [bear](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bear "Bear") species found across [Eurasia](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Eurasia "Eurasia") and [North America](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/North_America "North America"). It is one of the largest living terrestrial members of the [order](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Order_(biology) "Order (biology)") [Carnivora](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carnivora "Carnivora"). The brown bear is recognized as a national and state animal in several European countries.[^UA]
