### Open source period tracker drip. coming to iOS on August xx

The drip. app that makes period and fertility tracking more secure and transparent will be released for iOS on August xx 2022.
The app was available on Android only until now.

The idea for drip. was born out of a disappointment with the period apps available to that date. We wanted a

What sets drip. apart from the multitude of period tracker apps on the market is that it's heavily focused on users' privacy:
all data is solely stored locally on the user's device rather than in the cloud.
Additionally, the app does not allow any third-party tracking services that would access data users provide.

Key features include: symptom tracking, cycle prediction, graphs to analyze cycles and fertility, data encryption and password protection.
The drip. app is free for everyone and built with open-source software, meaning the source code is publicly available and everyone can participate.
The core team of contributors who maintain and develop the app are Maria Zadnepryanets, Sofia Tepikin and Marie Kochsiek.
They are all based in Berlin and currently work on drip on a voluntary basis.

drip. first launched in 2019 and had received support from the PrototypeFund & Germany's Federal Ministry of Education and Research, the Superrr Lab and Mozilla.

The idea for drip. was born in 2018 out of a disillusionment with the period apps available to that date. We wanted an app that didn not share and commodify our data, an app that illustrates menstruation without butterflies and flowers, an app whose algorithms are based on science.

So we decided to build our own period app: A non-commercial, gender-neutral app that stores data only locally on the phone, scientific methods for fertility awareness, and open source software. Participatory, safe, feminist.

Advertisers are already exploiting intimate health data, of which data pregnancy and expectant parent data is particularly profitable. Since the end of June 2022 and the overturned Roe vs. Wade, law enforcement agencies are now also

Illegalization of abortions.

Since 2019, the app has been available for Android, via the Google Play Store, via the alternative F-droid Store and for download on our website https://dripapp.org.

From the beginning we have sought exchange with interested people, cycle app users, open source enthusiasts and from the beginning we have been sent feedback, suggestions for improvement and bug reports. An iOS version for drip. was at the top of many people's wish list.

Die Idee für drip. ist aus einer Desillusionierung über die bis dato verfügbaren Zyklus Apps geboren. Wir wollten eine App, die unsere Menstruations-Daten nicht weitergibt und zu Geld machen möchte, eine App, die Menstruation ohne Schmetterlinge, Blumen und weichgezeichnete *feminine* Silhouetten darstellt, eine App, deren Berechnungen auf wissenschaftlichen Erkenntnissen beruht.

Also haben wir uns entschlossen selbst eine Zyklus-App selbst zu bauen, eine nicht kommerzielle, gender neutral designte App, die Daten nur lokal auf dem Handy speichert, die Fruchtbarkeitswahrnehmung mit der sympto-thermalen Methode berechnen kann und mit Open Source Software gebaut ist. Partizipativ, sicher, feministisch.

Werbetreibende profitieren von intimen Gesundheitsdaten, auf die sie zugreifen können, besonders profitabel sind Daten zu Schwangerschaft und werdenden Eltern. Spätestens seit Ende Juni 2022 sind nun auch staatliche Stellen und insbesondere Strafverfolgungsbehörden

Von Anfang an haben wir den Austausch mit Interessierten, Zyklus App Nutzenden, Open Source Begeisterten gesucht und von Anfang an haben wir Feedback, Verbesserungsvorschläge und Bug reports zugeschickt bekommen. Eine iOS Version für drip. stand bei vielen ganz oben auf der Wunschliste.
