Protect yourself against the winter elements by arriving for your tour fully prepared. Dressing in warm layers is highly recommended. This means having a thermal base layer (pants and long sleeve top), a mid-base layer which includes a fleece or hoodie, followed by an insulated winter jacket (preferably with a waterproof shell in case of snow). Insulated or fleece-lined snow pants are a must, along with insulated, waterproof winter boots. Wool socks, or perhaps two pairs of wool socks will keep your feet warm in the sub-zero temperatures. Don’t forget winter gloves or mittens, a warm hat, and a face/neck protector (this can be a lifesaver when the cold winter winds roll in); It can get very windy on the glacier, and protecting your face from the cold winds will ensure you don’t get frostbite. Sunglasses or ski goggles are encouraged as it can be very bright on the ice.
