# Carbon Neutral Devcon VI - Deliverables and Timeline

### Prep Phase, before dapp live:
- Derive an "initial event emission estimate" per attendee estimate for Devcon VI before the event. This value need only be accurate enough to be credible and encourage participation. It can be improved after the event as more offset parameters become available. This process should be transparent.
- Devcon creates a multisig where the "event offset pool" will be collected.

### Attendee Contribution Phase, dapp live:
- A Devcon pre-event email advertises the process and encourages attendees to voluntarily offset their Devcon VI event and flight emissions.
- Attendees can visit a dapp (ideally hosted as a Devcon subdomain) which informs Devcon attendees of the "initial event emission estimate" per attendee and allows them to optionally calculate their flight emissions.
- Attendees can submit a transaction that:
1. Swaps the users MATIC, DAI, USDC, WMATIC, WETH to the required amount of NCT (or send NCT) to offset event (and optionally flight) emissions
2. Sends this NCT to the Devcon multisig.
- After the user has succesfully submitted their transaction they can immediately optionally claim a "I helped make Devcon VI carbon neutral" POAP (contribution due to flight/travel emissions is not required for POAP eligbility, just a contribution due to event emissions).
- The Dapp explains that this POAP will act as a voting token to later choose the carbon offset project (the TCO2 to retire).

### Vote phase (1-2 weeks after Devcon):
- TBD: Sponsor transfers remaining funds to the multisig wallet (TBD!).
- A POAP-gated Snapshot proposal enables the community to vote on the choice of carbon offset project from approx 10 projects from the NCT pool, including a Colombian project ([VCS-1566](https://registry.verra.org/app/projectDetail/VCS/1566), [TCO2-VCS-1566-2019](https://polygonscan.com/address/0x3b28baae3987502b436f6f37d1bcd7b87b517b27)).
- Devcon Team emails & tweets attendees and informs that the offset project vote is ready for community participation.
- Contributor POAP holders vote and are rewarded with a second POAP.

### Offset phase (after Snapshot Proposal ends):
- An improved event estimation is calculated from the event parameters post-event.
- Devcon team redeems/retires via the Toucan Frontend using the funds from the "event offset pool" for the project voted on by the community.

## Still TBD

- [ ] Offset aim: Partial offset (only offset using the funds contributed to voluntary emission offset pool)? Or offset the entire event? With/without flights? Another option would be to match attendee contributions.
- [ ] If full/matched: What's the source of the additional funds?
- [x] Where does the Dapp get hosted? Discussed on 12.09. a Devcon sub-domain.
- [x] Should POAP artwork use Devcon-style imagery? Deva the Unicorn? :)

Climate Friendly Devcon VI Dapp & POAP!

Dear Devcon Attendee!

For the first time, you can help contribute to making Devcon a climate neutral event by using the "Climate Friendly Devcon VI" Dapp. The Dapp enables you to compensate your air travel and event carbon emissions due to Devcon VI entirely on-chain.

You will receive a special POAP for participating which will later allow you to vote on which nature-based project to source carbon credits from. Could it be the Indigneous Reservation of the Matavén Forest (https://selvamatavenredd.org/what-is-mataven) in Colombia…?

The process is simple:

1. Connect your Polygon account to the Dapp: https://devcon.discarbon.earth/
2. Enter your departure airport to calculate the carbon emissions for your flight to Bogota (optional).
3. Click "Send" to send the required amount of tokens (MATIC, DAI, USDC, WMATIC, WETH or NCT) to the smart contract in order to compensate your attendence of Devcon VI and flight. The smart contract converts these tokens to NCT* and then sends the NCT to the "Community Offset Pool" account (ERC20 tokens will additionally require an approval transaction).
4. Mint your Climate Friendly Devcon VI POAP!

Note: The Climate Friendly Devcon VI Dapp was developed by disCarbon and has not been security audited. It is entirely open source and the contract source code is linked from the Dapp. The funds sent to the pooling contract are collected in a 4 of 6 Gnosis Safe under the control of the Devcon Team, disCarbon and Toucan Protocol (until the funds are retired shortly after Devcon VI).
