# First Team Meeting Worksheet

## Team Members Present
* Hershel Wathore
* Aditya Choudhari
* David Kantor
* Srishti Bagchi
* Samiha Datta
* Zachary Gottesman
## I. Identify a Common Vision
*You’ve all voted on a common idea and themes. Now is the time to work through your commonalities and find a unifying vision between all of you. Answer the following for each of you. This is the time to speak your mind. Be honest with each other.*
We're all affected by COVID-19 and would like to contribute to prevention efforts. We also want to get back to campuss, and we'd like to create an app that would facilitate doing so in a safe way.
### Commonalities
*Who makes up your team? What are some common things you are interested in? Tell each other about the things you put down on the survey and expand on some of your passions.*
* Hershel is a CS major who loves to code. He thought this idea was cool and put it down.
* David thought Herschel was cool
### Inspiration
*What are some things each of you is inspired by?*
* The Google Maps API
* Contact Tracing
* Spreadable disease in general
* Mass paranoia
### Problems of Interest
*What problems are you looking to address? Why?*
* The rapid spread of COVID-19
* The ineffectiveness of retroactive manual contact tracing ...because disease prevention is important, including for this virus.
* Difficulty containing the spread of infectious diseases
### Identify
*Which of the above is most interesting to all of you?*
All of the above are pretty closely related, so we'd like to address as many as possible.
## II. Narrow In
*Now let's try narrowing in on a problem that interests all of you. Make sure to go around and listen to everybody on your team without interruption.*
The problem that we want to address is contact tracing, especially with respect to COVID 19.
### Problem Statement
*State the problem you want to solve succinctly.*
The problem that we want to address is contact tracing.
### Rephrase
*Try to rephrase the problem statement (negative) as an opportunity (positive). Word it as a question beginning with, “How might we…?”*
How might we effectively implement contact tracing?
### Reframe
*Reframe the question in at least 5 different ways to change the question fundamentally or imply a different solution set. Try changing scope, or audience, or technology.*
1. How can the Dartmouth College administration track COVID-19 hotspots?
2. How can students know which areas of campus to avoid?
3. How might we more efficiently contact at-risk individuals in real time?
4. How can we save lives during the COVID-19 pandemic?
5. How can we use location tracking to keep people updated and reduce the spread of infectious diseases?
### Choose
*Are any of the reframes more interesting? NO
Choose one.*
How can we use location tracking to keep people updated and reduce the spread of infectious diseases?
#### Coolness
*What could be cool about this potential project?*
* Potential benefits to many students on campus
* Working with the Dartmouth administration
* Implementing real-world change
#### Challenges
*What could be challenging / unfun about this potential project?*
* One big concern is battery management and making sure the app is not too battery intensive
* Testing could be difficult given our current situation.
* We're working remotely, which could be more difficult for the group dynamic.
* Data privacy
* Convincing people to use the app and report if they have COVID-19
#### Success
*What does success look like for this project?*
Success would be creating an application to effectively contact trace and contact individuals.
## III. Survey the State of the Art
*Do some research. Try to find what else is out there that is similar, either products, or technical papers that are related.*
There are some similar applications online, but they're not super popular and could have more user-friendly UIs. Also, we'd like to make something that's Dartmouth-specific so that we can make an accurate heat-map/
### Similar Goals
*Are there others working to achieve similar goals?*
Yes, there are probably a lot of people trying to find ways to use technology to curb the spread of coronavirus.
### Differences
*How is your approach different/better than the state of the art?*
We're focusing on a specific population, and we'll put a lot of effort into making a user-friendly application.
### Inspiration
*Are there any existing products/techniques/research, that we could, by analogy, draw inspiration from?*
We are drawing inspiration from several applications that track user location in various ways, including uber and google maps, pokemon go,
## IV. Team Dynamics
*And finally, let's think through a couple of team dynamics things as we'll be working together for the next month.*
We will use project board to assign tasks for each individual person to complete.
* David - Project Manager
* Zack - Co-Founder and dev
* Aditya - developer
* Srishti - developer
* Hershel - developer
* Samiha - developer
We are going to take responsibility as individuals and make sure we ask for help when we have problems because we are better together!
### Schedule
*Outline a general weekly meeting schedule with at least 1 time that everybody can make. That one meeting must include everyone on the team. A nice tool for this is [when2meet](https://www.when2meet.com/).*
* https://dartmouth.zoom.us/j/92726440814
* General agreement that we can meet up early/late afternoons on Saturdays
* Showing up to class to work
### Responsiveness
*How often should team members be expected to check and respond on Slack?*
We are planning on checking and responding on the slack a couple times per day.
### Group Decisions
*What types of decisions need to be discussed and approved by the entire group?*
* How we want to store client data
* Design
* Structure
### Individual Decisions
*What types of decisions can be made by a single person?*
* Within the scope of their own tasks there are small things that individuals can decide such as different ways of implementing certain functions that are meant to achieve the same things
* Variable names, other small details
### Conflict Resolution
*There are three main types of conflict that tend to occur in group projects*
* *Creative differences: disagreement on any decisions related to the product*
* *Personal differences: friction between people due to manner or words said*
* *Ghosting: consistent missed deadlines or lack of contribution*
*Your group should decide on a plan of action to deal with each type of conflict. There can be multiple levels to each plan. Involving the TA's or instructor can be part of it. Try to be specific*
* Creative differences: talk it out or bring the issue to the attention of the entire group
* Personal differences: We will get together to resolve the issue immediately as a well-functioning group is essential to finish this project
* Ghosting: text them call them, if it gets too serious we may contact a TA
