MiniHack "Zyklus & Eisprung" 🥚 – 10. Juli, 18Uhr @ BOL / MiniHack "Menstrual Cycle & Ovulation" 🥚 – July 10th, 6pm @ BOL / Berlin UdK

This MiniHack will explore the potentials of using Open Soft- and Hardware to envision and speculate other possibilities of health technologies – tackling issues of lacking self-sovereignty, the commercialisation of body data in neoliberal times, and the production and reinforcement of gender stereotypes.

### Wieso: Kontext, Motivation, Zielsetzung / why: context, motivation, goals

While long being niche technologies for decision-making powers in the tech world, period tracking apps have evolved to being part of the current default set of health apps, and so-called ‘Femtech’ is on the rise. Multiple products are flooding the market, promising to monitor PMS, ovulation and moods, to contracept and enhance people’s experience of their menstrual cycle. The commercialisation of technologies does not spare the intimacy of health data from being exploited for advertisement.

We invited researchers of the Weizenbaum institute, tinkerers & hackers to participate in the workshop at the Berlin Open Lab at Einsteinufer 43/Berlin-Charlottenburg.

Outline:
1. Sending out invitation of participants
2. Workshop day: Welcome, get together and waiting for everyone to arrive
3. Input presentation on our research approach and examples of femtech including our critique and positive examples as response
4. Group phase, finding common interest in reference to 3 approaches
5. Making, prototyping, discussing
6. Presenation of results
7. Wrap up and end of workshop
8. Follow-up email and documentation

Pen & paper, ovulation tests, arduino, box out of foamed material, sanitary towels, panty liners, eggs

playful & creative approach to period tracking, imagine if every day that marks a change during the menstrual cycle will create its own sound, --> making music with your period data, experiencing the collectiveness of menstruating (when connecting your "sound of the day" with other menstruating ppl and their "sounds of the day") or the wholeness of menstruating (collecting sounds of different days during the menstrual cycle)

#### Blood diamond :red_circle:
an object that indicates when to make what kind of investments based on hormonal changes during the menstrual cycle in order to profit from them: ring with changing colors diamond
creating value for the person the data is generated from, hacking back from being tricked into buying products that are based on user generated data to exploit hormonal changes and hence "biological needs" (invisibly harvesting buying interests) --> instead use data to make investment plans and actively engaging with very own results

#### Eggchange DIY Freezing Box Kit: :snowflake:
Social pressure being a "Blindgängerin" ~ "a dud" when women decide to not have kids,
having a career and a kid/s seems incompatible for women
What if it would be possible to have an open source freezing station? How could you get more control/ rights about your life? How can you delay your menopause? Could there be a system/ service to handle different options about your eggs and don’t count on the age of a women!?
free you from the social pressure so folks can choose what and when to do with their very own eggs, they can chose **to donate** it to others as societal contribution or have babies whenever they want to; also tracking the perfect sperm/egg match when you are meeting with a person but don't want to immediately have babies with, keep it for future baby making or as a romantic memory
It comes with an funnel to filter out your eggs and get them into the Freezing Box, to store it in your fridge. It’s up to you, you can decide whether you want to get pregnant at a certain time, you just inject the egg yourself or go to a doctor, keep it as a souvenir or donate it. Than the Eggchange-pick-up service will come to your home and get the Box. Eggcellent - it’s that easy!

#### Hormone measurement :bar_chart:
hormonal changes experiment with urine (or other bodily fluids)
here precision may not be needed, rather serves as first orientation to try things out but also to keep track of relative changes (no comparison to standardized number)
tracking as regular health routine for body and mind awareness, similar to touching breast for preventing/finding breast cancer
