Diamond Ore can only be mined with an Iron Pickaxe or better. As of 1.18, Diamonds are far less common in open spaces like caves. This means that to maximise your chances of finding Diamonds in Minecraft you should strip-mine in straight lines throughout the entire world.

The best way to mine Diamonds in Minecraft 1.19 is to dig down to level 57 and create two blocks high in any direction. Then start to mine out on either side in 2x1 tunnels, leaving a two-block gap between each new tunnel.

When you are satisfied that you have removed all Diamonds from that level, you can continue the process to level 53. If you mine this manner at both levels -57 and 53, you'll be able to view all Diamonds that spawn between levels 58 and 51. This allows you to get the highest amount of Diamonds without running into blocks of Bedrock that may otherwise hinder the strip-mining process.

If you're playing Minecraft 1.17 or earlier, you can apply the exact same method using levels 6 and 10.

It is a good idea for miners to have a water Bucket on hand, as pockets of lava are common in these levels. Remember also to bring plenty of torchlights to illuminate your path and prevent mobs from appearing in your tunnels. Alternately, you can illuminate your path with Night Vision potions - though it won't stop mobs from spawning.
