# Modding Session on Deck

## Setting up mod unlocker

> This step is much easier from desktop mode, but should be possible in either desktop or game mode. The instructions are written for desktop mode.

1. Download the program from: https://illusory.dev/#
2. Add the executable as a nonsteam app
3. Open the options for the app in steam, and tell it to use a recent version of proton.
4. Open the program and run it as you normally would.
1. Enter the path to your copy of session. if on SD card this is a bit easier to find. If on the decks internal drive, its under ~/.steam/steam/SteamApps/common. This would translate to z:/home/deck/.steam/SteamApps/common in the proton/wine file explorer.
2. click patch
5. (optional) remove the mod unlocked from steam

## Setting up session mod manager

> This step is much easier from desktop mode, but should be possible in either desktop or game mode. The instructions are written for desktop mode.

1. Download the latest release from github: https://github.com/rodriada000/SessionMapSwitcher/releases/tag/v2.11.1
2. Unzip it
3. Add the executable as a non steam app
4. Open the options for it, and specify a recent version of proton
5. Run it as you normally would.
1. Select the games path, it should be the same directory you specified for the mod unlocked above.

**note:** you will need to use this anytime you want to use a custom map, so leave it installed in steam.

## Running a custom map:

> At this point, you can use your preference of desktop or game mode. I prefer game mode for actually running games, so the instructions are written from that POV.

1. Launch Session
2. Go to the apartment
3. Hit the "steam" button and open your library.
5. Launch Session Mod Manager
6. Download whatever map you want to play in the mod browser
7. Return to the home page in mod manager
8. Select the downloaded map
9. Click "load map" in the bottom right.
10. Hit the "steam" button to open the side menu.
11. Return to Session
12. Press "go skate", and select Chatham towers as your destination
13. You should be in your modded park! Enjoy skating.
14. When your done, return to the apartment and reload one of the base game parks. This should prevent any weird glitches when reloading the game.
