# HPC Competence Map via EuroHPC Joint Undertaking

## General Information
ENCCS.se is a partner in the [EuroHPC Joint Undertaking](https://eurohpc-ju.europa.eu/supercomputers/our-supercomputers_en) (JU), which aims to create a framework for HPC Competence Mapping. The current frameworks being considered are the [HPC Certificate Forum](https://www.hpc-certification.org/wiki/skill-tree/b) and the [European Competence Framework for Quantum Technologies](https://qt.eu/media/pdf/QT_CompetenceFramework_V2-April2023.pdf). The structure of these frameworks is not constant, with some categories having subcategories and others not.

## Macro-Categories
The HPC Certificate Forum has 6 main categories. With the addition of Quantum Computing, there are now 7 macro-categories:
1. Administration
2. HPC Knowledge
3. Performance Engineering
4. Software development
5. Big Data Analytics
6. HPC Environment
7. Quantum Computing

## Next Steps
Each NCC should discuss internally whether the existing framework adequately describes the competences of the macro-categories. Consideration should be given to whether things should be moved, reduced, deleted, or added. ## FAQs
1. **Will it be used for classification on training? Is it coordinated with the HPC training certification task force?**
- The mappings overlap in some respects, but not in others. An NCC can have competences on several topics on which it does not provide trainings.
2. **Will it be used to understand existing competences within the NCCs?**
- Yes, and to display them to anyone who is interested. It will be used by end users and partners looking for collaborations. The Competence Map is seen as an important tool by the JU.
3. **What else will it be used for?**
- The upgraded structure of the competence map can be released to all NCCs so that they can use it too for the national level.
