DAO of the week (Draft), MetaFactory DAO

TLDR

MetaFactory is the physical merchandise and digiphysical culture factory for web3 communities and the metaverse.

DAOTW

MetaFactory specializes in signature clothing drops, operating like a service DAO to collaborate with other DAOs, protocols and groups. They aim to maximize the collectibility and ownership-clout factor - with many products travelling seamlessly between physical and virtual worlds. MetaFactory operates physical microfactories in Berlin and New York City with special emphasis placed on scalable, sustainable, zero-waste production.

Purchases and community participation are rewarded with $ROBOT token, allowing contributors to be part of the MetaFactory DAO and participate in governance.

From a brand perspective - a lot of dynamics -t raditional brand its easier to have a clearcut identity. Very strong imagery w/Nike, swoops on everything. One lane aesthetic, solid creative directions, owned and siloed off. vs if you're trying to allow for multiple brands to operate under one banner.

In the bull, the amount of inbound interest was just unsustainably high. You can't completely decentralize and open the doors for what's essentially a business on the backend. For the longest time any sampling and production cost, product renders, fulfillment everything like metafactory covers it all. That's somethere where if it's a little too open, can't have just anybody come in, you have issues of overproducing - especially for a preproduced run of product - 500 hats for a defi protocol - you're kind of replicating issues w/legacy merch & brands that overproduce and have a lot of dead stock. On the extreme sides like Guccis and diff brands, they end up overproduce, sale to push inventory, destroy merch to keep scarcity. Find the right balance on that front.

Collectibility factor, early metafactory products that carry some clout. Signature drops that have very limited supplies. Go to different events its kind of a flex to wear 1/42 small group repping it out there. That's the foundational bread and butter of Metafactory. More of a service DAO, doing collabs w/different DAOs and protocols & groups, the more you do on that side a lot of them are wanting merch tier vs cooler fashion apparel, conf swag (logo on the chest) basic graphic on the back. Black hoody. Collaborative metafactory drops - saturation of the brand. Limited edition cool drops that get saturated together.

Having metafactory as a service DAO to help produce swag for different orgs but not a full blown open drop, DAO to DAO business transaction.

Different tiers of ROBOT holders - minibot, headbot, etc. Anyone with Robot can partake in goverance & be part of teh DAO. We leverage Sourcecred & coordinape for doing ops distributions. Try to capture contributions across the DAO, live events, MCon, Eth Denver, NFT NYC event. This year was metaphysical event at lube studios, Ice Cream Truck we decked out, hit the street & went to events.

Obviously if you're dealing with physicial production & fulfillment, it can't be a very lacksadaisical contributors coming & going, reliable well-owned responsibilitys to make sure there's QA on production, product fulfillment.

We do some stable compensation for those key roles.
Designer work collab stuff is tied to the success of the drop. $ROBOT distros for buyer rewards, but also have product drop where the technician on production side & designer & collaborating brand - all getting $ROBOT rewards that are based on sales revenue on the drop.

You can get a lot of fake hype, exit liquidity cycles, hype that doesn't feel authetnic. Create something legitimately dope that people really like - hit & miss, especially if it's a little more open for different designers to allow this amiability of taste & direction. We definitely went from almost early LARPing apparel & fashion design to bringing on legitimate legacy fashion design fashion.

We see clearly it was a pivotal onboard that comes from that industry of Fashion Design - perfect bridge of Web3 & Fashion. Leads to a whole new chapter of experimentaiton. How much to dip into custom cut & sew, specialty products, crazy apparel - there isn't a point if it's just web3 printful. That's not needed, anybody can create very basic swag using a multitude of legacy service provides - slap a graphic on a mug or t-shirt. VS actually doing full on custom cut & sew, custom tags & our own blanks, utilizing the KONG halo chips. Important factor i making it unique & woth doing.

Dipped into micro-factories, physical locations, small team led by Wes, Weseeclearly, more intimate scope projects. Custom blanks, embroidery, experiment & do production runs. We do loot/metaloot drop & take lootbag or synthetic loot bag, buy it as an NFT, burn it to redeem a physical set of apparel. Premium black sweats, garter, hoody gloves, 1 of 1 custom embroidered. Doing that kind of heirloom boutique kind of stuff. We're able to do that out of Berlin microfactory. In NYC in navy yard we have another spot that we share with Decode MFG, they do they're the pioneers of zero waste kinetic design systems . Product & apparel where 99.9% yard of fabric is utilized in the garment. Trad: 44% wasted.

Our ability to align and uspport them, bridge them into crypto & web 3.

Kongland Halo Chips. History in the metadata, make & materials, where it was manufactured. Actual benchmark for certification for zero waste. Blockchain & chips to be verifiable - this is a zero waste design garment. Physical NFTs.

kongiscash

We have our MFOS - web3 enabled solution - building out as a necessity of having to utilize Notion & different programs and software for collaboration & also all the data & file support, tracking for every drop we make. Description, prices, blanks, cost, design files & graphics, vector files, neck tags, brand, each person contributed to it, plug in for distribution of designer, labor rewards - clean data & organization on that front.

Kongland
whitelabel expansion,
Keep chips running permanently.
Blockchain in itself.
Limited edition swag, plus vinyl record.

Locust syndrome - race to be first. DAO tooling, protocols, defi this & that or Metafactory - competition in a sense can be good, same thing where do we need 100 different DAOs working on DAO tooling, alignment & common ground. You don't need to reinvent the wheel. More efficient.
