# How To Know What Needs To Be Replaced
Screen (Glass / Digitizer / LCD)
~ - Cracked glass (Glass Damage)
~ - Lines on LCD (LCD Damage)
~ - Black spots/discoloration on LCD (LCD Damage)
~ - Unresponsive touch or dead spots on screen (Digitizer Damage)
~ - Screen is completely blacked out but phone is still on (LCD Damage/ Backlight Damage)

Note: We do not offer glass only screen replacements. Any screen related fixes require the replacement of the full LCD Assembly (glass / digitizer / lcd)
:::

Battery
~ - swelling of battery a.k.a. "Fat Battery"
~ - Dirty or damaged (sometimes dirt and other debri get into phone from cracks on the screen and if they can puncture or cause damage to the battery)
~ - Phone overheats
~ - Battery life decreases rapidly.
~ - Phone shuts off when battery percentage is not low (i.e. 50%)

Note: There are times when a battery replacement may not fix the customer's issue and at that point it may not be the actual battery that needs to be replaced but the chip on the motherboard that needs
:::

Front Facing Camera
~ A black screen or crash of the camera app when opened or switched to front camera mode.

Proximity Sensor
~ Screen remains on when you put it up to ear on headset mode.

Note: The proximity sensor is What makes the screen go black when you raise it to your ear

Note: A good way to test this is to simply make a call and place a finger over the ear speaker area. If the screen goes black, then the proximity sensor is working properl. If it does not, then the sensor needs to be replaced.

Note: The proximity sensor is easily damaged when transfering it from the broken screen to replacement screen so it is important to be careful when removing it.
:::

Note: The proximity sensor and front camera are on the same cable flex so having to replace one means replacing both.
:::

Top Mic
~ No sound is heard from the person on the receiving end of the call when the phone is used on loudspeaker mode.
~ No sound is recorded when videos are taken.
:::info
Note: The top mic is part of the same flex that the front camera and proximity are are on so replacing either means replaceing all three..
:::

Ear Speaker
~ There is no sound coming from the ear speaker when the phone is used on headset mode (putting it up to the ear).
:::info
Note: If the sound is not completely absent but muffled (low) then it could be just the ear speaker mesh that needs to be repalced.
:::

Home Button
~ No response when the button is pressed down.
~ Able to click when pressed down but no response.
~ Home button is clearly missing.

Note: The home button on the 5 and 5C have a separate flex cable that is responsible for making contact and with the motherboard.
:::

Rear Facing Camera
~ A black screen or crash of the camera app when opened or switched to back camera mode.
~ Camera shakes uncontrollably and/or makes noise. (The stabalizer is likely broken and that is internal so the only fix is to replace the rear camera assembly).
~ Camera does not focus.

Lightning Connector(Charging Port)
~ Phone does not charge.
~ Phone takes a long time to power on when plugged into charger.

Note: Always have the customer check to see if the charger they are using is the issue. Aftermarket chargers (not original Apple) are known to cause issues so have them test that first.

Headphone Jack
~ There is something stuck in the jack port (i.e. dirt, lint, rice, etc.)
~ There is no sound output when headphones are plugged in.

Note: If the phone is stuck on headphone mode even when there is nothing plugged in to the headphone jack, replacement may not be the solution so first trt reseting the network settings [link](https://support.apple.com/en-us/HT201415)

Bottom Mic
~ The person on the receiving end of the call cannot hear when spoken into the mic on headset mode (putting the phone up to the ear).

Note: The bottom mic is part of the same flex that the lightning dock and headphone jack are on so replacing either means replacing all three.

Vibrator
~ Phone does not vibrate when it usually should.
