Link sách: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Things_They_Carried "We usually express our own experience by telling a story. We separate it from ourselves. We create new other truths” - quoted from a writer's thought or a veteran’s confession. Which would you prefer? The story or the truth? If you want to listen to stories, just read "The Things They Carried". This book will bring you back to the memory of young people who randomly being chosen into a war. They attended with pride and honor in a faraway land. We will get to know Captain Jimmy Cross and his long-distance lover, as well as the young guy who has the nickname “Kiley Mouse” and his story about “Trà Bồng Lover”. Or you can choose to hear the truth. The truth about them - the soldiers who carried on their shoulders the invisible burden of extinguishing ambition, their youth being shelved and the love that hasn’t yet blossomed. As they grow older, all those memories are still haunting them, never let them forget. They even bring lucky items with them to alleviate the fear of death by things such as lover's pebbles, photos, socks..., even a finger which cut from corpses. Tim O’brien will show you the truth behind a pair of troops scouring and burning down many villages meaninglessly, because even they themselves don't know exactly what they were looking for. Even if you are the kind of person who doesn’t like war-related writings, I think "The Things They Carried” still is a good choice. It’s an easy-to-read, sympathetic and short book which reminds us of "war", the common pain of humanity.
