"It was a hard choice to make because both excel in different areas. Praying Wolf seems more rhythm focused, while Titan Dwarf seems more pattern focused to reflect the song. Both entries suffered from some sections feeling noticeably different from other sections, probably due to the differences between mappers. Titan Dwarf just took the SLIGHT edge for me on this one."

  • Lince Cosmico (Γ‰ SOBRE ISSO 😍)

"This entry (Titan Dwarf), even thought I said all I've said, is clearly better than Praying Werewolf's. It's just above every aspect of its counterpart, except expertise where the difference isn't thaat clear. Anyway, just think about the identity thing and you should be good.

Both maps are totally different surprisingly. The other entry placed their bets on intensity and slider density while you guys (Praying Werewolf) focused on circle usage and aesthetics. I personally prefer the other entry over this one simply because the intensity of the song actually plays better with dense-ish patterns such as slider spams imo. The cohesion brought this entry down I believe, if the map would've had a clear concept I'd accept it but the other entry's idea, even when their's is not "amazing", the way it colludes with the song simply works better."

  • Seto Kousuke (sou fofissima)

"Praying Wolf clear win in my opinion~ Map is much more consistent with it's own ideas even while increasing intensity a lot for contrast, gameplay is also much more interesting because the pacing of the map fits really well with different parts of the song always feeling fresh. Titan Dwarf had several aspects that bothered me in a fundamental level, for example how at 01:22:384 - the map literally copypastes the intro and even have slider tails for sounds like 01:26:796 - which is very underwhelming considering vocals are peaking. Feels like Titan Dwarf had a lot of trouble to map a song of this style, like the mappers weren't too experienced with this kind of song. Even some rhythms sometimes become very random like this extended slider with slow SV coming literally out of nowhere at 00:43:560 (5) - in such a strong moment.

For Titan Dwarf, the 2 later kiais were a bit better executed than the first one, but even then there are quite a few inconsistencies and bad decisions. For Praying Wolf the entire map kept a level of cohesion that only bothered me when they wanted to force some awkward slider placement and didn't account for flow, making very weird motions like 00:58:384 (1) - which is simply awful compared to most of the other patterns… Even then, every section feels unique with it's own ideas that although follow the same style, has different pattern ideas."

In swimming horse, some bits feel super overdone in places such as these 01:40:820 (1,2,3,4,5,6,7,8) - , but overall looked nice. While arcan toucan was not a bad map, Swimming Horse just outshined it in this matchup. One thing I'd point out in Arcane Toucan would be patterns looking too ""rigid""? (dont know if that's the best word to use), but it's how some patterns feel too linear like these 01:10:520 (6,7,1) - 00:59:720 (2,3,4,5,1,2,3,4,5) - which makes it feel a bit too restricting imo.

(Arcane Toucan)
Putting aside the hitsounds, that were really good actually, the map feels… lacking. It's as if only one of you were trying and the rest are just trying to follow the song instead of creating and forging ideas. You may be thinking "oh but why are you expecting everything to be so perfect" or something like that, the thing with that thought is that it is a mindset you should also be trying to achieve, since that's the way that'll lead you to find those things that could make your map special. You didn't meet expectations this time, however nobody knows what could be awaiting in the future.

(Swimming Horse)
Ok this looks "perfect" due to what I voted but it isn't marvelous as I've stated on the creativity section. However this is also a clear winner, it feels like there's almost no point of comparation. Anyway, most of the judge impression goes into the Creativity section so check it out.

  • Seto Kousuke (π“ž π“£π“˜π“œπ“”)

Close match imo, Arcane Toucan had a decent map and not many things bothered me… can also see how it's quite coherent with it's own ideas through different parts and that's really great. The problem however is that the map is very basic and standard in it's ideas, they're not bad but they're mostly the same and when it tries to be more creative with slidershapes they end up a bit random and unpolished, the best parts of the map is when it keeps it's simple ideas going.

Swimming Horse on the other hand, despite having specific issues like how 00:05:570 - ignores the snare for no reason and how at 00:44:420 - randomly it stops emphasizing vocals for the drums (but even the drums are not properly emphasized because of 00:44:720 (1) - ) that kinda makes no sense… this map is very well made in most areas, it has a lot of different ideas and patterns, while still maintaining all of them coherent as a whole (and the hitsounding is amazing holy fucking shit LOL).

Swimming Horse was equally as consistent as Arcane Toucan, but Swimming Horse went plus ultra on all areas and kept it's bar up high.

Commentary: So the map itself looks ok-ish. Not too good nor too bad, it stands among the average level of quality of a ranked map. Take in mind this only refers to the technique used through the map, not the concepts themselves. Sometimes though, there are some good executions such as 02:55:560 (1,1,2,1,2) - which creates an identity for the map… though it's not enough imo. In short words, the map lacks complexity in general, this could be any random ranked map if not for the last section, and if you're going to participate on the osu! beatmapping world championship, you want to stand out. I'm going to move hitsounding into creativity because it feels like it resembles that section more than this one, but just a personal
thing.

cohesion S

Commentary: To be honest the map does look cohesive, even thought I said it was average, the cohesion level makes it surprising to see that it is actually a collab. I had this feeling last year on brazilian obwc entries too, it seems more like one person's work more than a big collab, which is both good and bad. Good because it seems you can make something that glues together correctly. Bad because it also limits your own mapping into something in specific instead of pushing the ideas to the next level, this being the reason why it feels "average".

creativity A

Commentary: Considering my previous commentaries, you might've expected something lower like A- or something like that, but that's not the case because I decided to place hitsounding here. I feel like the map's hitsounding is the thing that stands out the most, which is really valuable from my point of view. However, as I said before, since you limit yourself into a too-cohesive map, the ideas are not pushed through and the map ends up being way too repetitive into its own concepts. You had good ideas for that last section, yeah, but that's all, there's no real "identity" on this map if we put aside that one section. When you're trying to map to win, you want your map to stand out, and if you want your map to stand out, you have to make something special on it. I don't see anything special on this.

Commentary: Map feels sometimes good, sometimes meh. It's as if you guys didn't sit and talk about how you wanted the map to look like and just made the best mapper map some parts and then everyone else follows the style… If you don't come to an agreement beforehand on how you want the concept of your map to be and how you want it to look like then you're going to end up forcing something instead of developing it.

cohesion B

Commentary: Well, something similar applies here. Since you just followed each other style (or so it seems like), the cohesion isn't "bad" but it is notoriously unbalanced.

creativity A

Commentary: It being unbalanced makes everything harder to tier tbh haha… I don't wanna sound repetitive either, but it's how it is imo. Althought you did a decent job on the hitsounding, and that's why the value is higher here. There were some cool ideas too, like the triangle streams or 02:21:325 - this section (which is clearly organized by someone experienced).

Commentary: I've got mixed feelings with this one. The first half of the map looks below average, and the second half of the map looks nearly S+. The level disparity is just too high I can't really put a representative value on this slot. The one thing I can point out from the below average parts is that patters sometimes feel way too forced, and with this I mean that the patterns you use doesn't go totally accord to the context you create (previous or next patterns). This being an example 01:48:020 (1,2,3,4) - . You can clearly see how the pattern doesn't relate at all with 01:46:820 (1,2,3,1,2,3,4,5) - . The only "relation" would be 01:47:420 (1) - but it doesn't even fit anything. For further references you could check this excelent part 03:06:020 - where everything is purposedly connected with a concrete objective in mind.

cohesion B

Commentary: This is just to remark the differences between both 1/2 of the map. The cohesion on the first half is correct, and the cohesion on the second half is also correct. However, that only goes for each part. The cohesion between part 1 and 2 IS NOT correct. With that said, I hope you can find a better shape next time.

creativity A

Commentary: Well, I didn't see anything stellar this time, but those hitsounds deserves some love hehe. The only remarkable point of the map is 02:22:820 - where the mapper actually sinergyzes well with the song and doesn't just slider spam randomly to fit stream sounds or anything like that like you guys did through most of the map.

Commentary: Well, this is a cool example of what the other entry should've done instead of stream spamming. Rhythm and field usage is quite clean to be honest, sometimes sloppy but those are so few I can count them with one hand. Mappers here are experienced enough to compete on elimination brackets imo.

cohesion SS

Commentary: It feels like this whole map was mapped only by Sakura Airi, and I don't even know who participates on this but Airi must be one of the participants on this entry. ANYWAY, the cohesion is fine, actually, I can't tell who mapped what, so that's good.

creativity S

Commentary: Ok, this was S+ before but I re-considered after looking through the map again. The ideas are brilliant… for hitsounding mostly. The other aspects of the map look like a cool, good-looking map with lot of slidershapes… but most of the map feel like the same idea repeated over and over again, so even though it looks good and really professional, the fact that you repeated your aesthetics for the most part of the map kinda tells me that you didn't actually find how to mesh your style WITH the song, instead, it seems like you guys adapted the songs to your style, which isn't bad if you're going for rank, but if you want your map to be outstanding you need to find more ways to exploit those excellent executions you have and drive them to the next level, just like you did with the hitsounding or the brrrr sliders.
