# SPACE Network notes meeting 1
Ome: went to the first akasha meetup, liked what they are doing
creating a network of physical spaces with new technology
Now I’m starting a project in Geneva with the same intention.
Likeminded people that want to work pragmatically and how we want to
encoporate so maybe not for everyone but the people that want to find
the ways of communication aroun open source and social infrastructure
locally and contribute
Context:
Meetup about the hub went to a whiteboard and energy so we continued
the conversation
Severin: Smaller in scope, series of meetups that have access to
spaces to create a coherent identity on certain topics, in the process
of exploring spaces that can facillitate this. Focused in berlin at
the min, but the meta picture is interesting.
Context: hard to follow up aftter hacks, wanna facillitarte this and
concrete alignment for that (talk to beth also)
Twist is application of discussion to action. Likes physical rooms due
to complex organic conversation. Function of life is to increase
information
Next:
Interested in the protocol and how a diversity of projects can work
together in one business model of sustainability to levererage the
collective
rene: generally interested in blockchain for what it can do for
civilisation which is how I know roberto. Connected in the netherlands
and looking for the liminal vibes of the true next step as an
ambassador for the tech. Looking for whatever way to live around this.
Lua: interested in learning these frameworks and applying them to
communities as hshe travels seeing different needs and possibilities.
Pretty new to this and learning to see what people are doing and how
it can be applicable on the personal local global level. Feels people
are disintegrated in communities like the innercity. People lack
community and make tribes like the gorlitzer park. people that cna be
helped with needs
Thomas: Background into relevance is that he lived in a community fror
9 months and vistted several, co working/living cocreating is more
expressive than just collaboration so looking for communities to help
and give energy to a cause. Software dev interested in permaculture,
grows own food.
Pavle: I got sucked into the blockchain stuff 3 years ago and wants to
start a cooperative that he didnt know how to make. So he’s here to
see examples of this working and to see if the model can be transposed
to other situations (e.g. our specific context)
Sam: Hey! My perspective is short term but around living spaces in
europe we have housing and food problems so lots of waste. We have all
the mechanisims and items to meet these needs without tying them down
or serving the fortune 500. Would love to create a human structure
with the resources of technologists. I’d like to start doing and
making and sharing the knowlege in otherspaces. An open tangable
project that can be replicated. REal proof of concept, like liminal or
cobalt in the neteherlands where the space was regenerated and turned
into a business park by the community. There are probably hundreds of
other projects around the world having similar conversations, so we
have the tech and potential to connect.
Gustavo: Gus only. Believes in collaboration. Moved around. The best
way to generate value is open collaboration and connecting the points
and synnergies. Identifies a “big” opportunity in spaces of mixing
communities and getting people to connect. Exposing what they are.
Ana: Gus invited me here. I dont know what akasha hub is but I’ll
discover. I’m part of a community in Sevillia. We are about 4-5 active
people, was talking to Ome who told me abiut physical spaces for the
betterment of humanity. I love this idea. I was thinking this summer
my idea would be with a community hacking together preferably in
europe doing something with blockchain for humanity. My idea was I’d
like this for the summer. I’ll share my community details. I was a
software engineer and I’m lookng for a job.
David: I’ll start talking about my space: for 8 years I’ve lived in
communities and talked about connectigs spaces. Offered my space in
exchange but its never materaliesed. Now giving a spare room to people
to just use. Adding Akasha spaces: London Barcelona Dublin. Extra
offices in barcelona. The basic pattern I like are connecting both
rural and city spaces that are regenerative or sustainable. City hubs
around those, pods/flats to offer space to live work longer term.
Sustainable. Rural spaces as “the farm” or rural mothership as theres
more space. I want to describe the first functional network in my area
so it can be replicated. So the spacial archetecture is City hubs for
co-working, city pods with accomidation for the hub. So not quite
communes as theres a work life split which is more pragmatic but not
exclusive of communes.
Roberto describing spaces. Liminal is a rural space with three modern
buildings that can accomidate about 16+ people. We ask people to e.me
and meditate on what they want to resolve or regenerate on the
personal local global levels. Bring your idea to solve and share with
other people focusing on the personal local global. Cant do global
while we’re distracted. Had one months hacking together to hack the
hackalong and find patterns about what works and what doesnt. Looked
at community living from a scientific approach to enable it. So
technologies that will scale from local first to the global level.
Synnergising projects as we are projects on our own trip but togther.
Concrete stuff: fits about 16-40. The space is privatly owned for
socially experimental purposes. Personal investment looking for
philantropic funding or noraml investments that fund the slots as
scolarship. No control, you say I believe the person I sponsor will
have an impact and I stake behind that. Groups are initiators and they
are recorded, their creatorship credentials is theres on a bonding
curve (molecule) - so flows between creator and consumer. Provide a
pizza and get free pizza for life. Ideally a network of places to move
on towards and between. Passport to the varoius spaces with the
projects you’ve developed to allow nomadic travel without morgae,
bills - pay with your project valued by the community.
David: Soft launch with Akasha on Oct 20th for similar thing. Putting
together a coowned funding opportunity with minimal mula. Funding is a
pragmatic excuse to bring documents together. On the self sovrin
identity that allows us to move; theres a german tradition of
gazellshaft/wandering tradesmen - once they went on their trade tour
they couldnt return home without a documentation of their wanderings.
After three years you qualify (internship). Learning passport.
Sam: important parallel about public funding. Gov realised they could
save money by giving Homeless people homes. Through the discourse with
goverment about offering food and housing to train ppl. Gov funding
should be used for this.
Meeting with City lab tomorrow about regenerating public spaces. Cool
curator running it. If I can offer residancies so rogrammers/artists
and the public funders dont have to pay then it alleviates public cost
(taxes). Social benefits to this archetecture. Distincition on how to
treat public funding. We are sustainable but accept funding when it
aligns with our values and is appropriate. Purposeful direction.
Sam: Government funding should be used for this.
Lorenzo: its a matter of resourcing and we can’t have a dependency of public funds but we can take them when not imposing. Economic sustainability
Gustavo: there are tools that play with community funding mechanisms. Protea as example. Building a curve for economically sustainable community spaces.
Ome: this isn’t new and there are multiple examples of failure. My opinion is that it may be different with the new tools that coordinate trust. Government: they find ways to extract and distribute value. Without both the old and new we won’t overtaking their institutional trust networks. The family unit is a shared economy. Want to scale up the opinionated family in plurality. Space is people couches and local synergies.
Lorenzo: Barcelona space opened two years ago and increasing activities by talking with the local communities. E.g. documentary nights. Understanding the world through hackathons and conferences. Real projects and pushing for local projects. Warehouse space, 3-6 ppl, lots of tools and desks to make stuff.
Dublin Akasha - not personally visited. Office cowering space.
Severin - office hacker space that one can use for working. 1ce a month physical space
Gus: co working space called crypto plaza in Madrid. Crypto enabler offering free spots filling verticals within the blockchain space, various types. Theres a church community that I’m talking with about transacting about amazonian medicine. Space for about 40ppl, aligned hackers might be accepted to make a cultural exchange.
Same: change please - homeless people can come to them. Coffee shop, get paid and accommodation while learning to work in the chain or shop. Group of orgs funding things.
Ana: la colmaina is a physical hacker space/friends club - used to be co working, you no longer pay. You can’t live there but you can do workshops meet-ups skillshares etc.
Lorenzo: community fails because of product market fit around what they create and what’s needed
Lua: Berlin already has community called Kietz. Differential between groups and subgroups. Housing around parks create communities. (Context: started in the 70’s now getting gentrified).
David: good place to pick up diverse opinion sets. Bordeaux -> three ppl doing theatre looking for theatric community space. Open source training, agile, blockchain, governance. Conscious and aware. Might loose their space so looking for other and bigger. Tech enables reputation for people like that to engage with governments.
Same: Foundation for public code, working with gov to get infra and for purpose policy
