# Token Engineering Commons UNCONFERENCE The goal is to discuss the topics and collectively align on the future of our Commons. # Agenda ### Orientation/Intro ### Agenda Building ### Unconferencing! ### Review & Action Steps # Orientation ## Mindset & Principles - Whoever comes are the right people - Whatever happens is the only thing that could have happened - There are no selected "speakers", only participants and no pre-defined schedule! - All of us decide together what we are going to talk about at the beginning of the event. - Every participant can pitch their [own topics/sessions](https://handbook.wonder.me/Wonder-unConference-Guide-c9dd70cc7dbf4013acf16832fdc3ca16) to the audience, , no matter how well known you are in the industry! - Based on the interest of the audience, sessions are added to the schedule or not - Et voila, we have our very own mini-conference ready! - Don't be sad if your session is not getting voted on - you're here to enjoy the unconference - When it is over it is over you can end early - The format can be anything like a simple group discussion, show & tell , interactive workshop, lighting talk or even a lecture - as experimental as you like! - **The law of 2 Feet:** You are free to come and go from sessions as you please. If you feel you are not learning or contributing in a session, use your feet to find a new one or grab some food. ## House Keeping - Bathrooms - Ribbons - Postit notes - Whiteboard markers on windows - No scheduled lunch... eat when you want ## Icebreaker - Groups of 4-6 - 2 Truths and a Lie - OR - Sheradades # Agenda Building ## Choose our own adventure Want to have a disscussion? They can be anything! - group discussion - show & tell - interactive workshop - lighting talk - lecture - as experimental as you like! Put it on a post it - Title - Expected outcome - Expected length of time ## Present the topics ## Vote with 6 stickers # Unconferencing! - Assign a Note Taker - One person will need to present the Outcomes at the end (no need to assign) EVERY GROUP TAKES NOTES IN THIS DOCUMENT!!! - These notes should end up as a forum post so we can share and continue the conversation Schedule will go here: ## Window Room ## Hideaway ## Outside # Review & Action Steps One by one we share the experiences of the events - 1 minute breakdown! Notes # MONEY TALK - Windows - 12:30-1:30 ACTION STEPS 1. Create a list of potential VC /DAO VCs of interest 2. Clarify boundaries / 3. Have discussions. Understand their needs. 4. Continue discussion on designing a viable solution that aligns values with the TEC and is compelling to these orgs. 5. Creative solutioning. Ex post-hatch, initial bonding curve tokens purchase by DAO itself # Funding Working Groups - Windows 1:30- 2:30 Questions for Working Group Stewards or potential new working groups 1. How do you expect to get funding? 2. How much money do we need? 3. How do we want to organize? Proposals via conviction voting Requesting funds from other groups (e.g. 1hive) Continuous streams vs. 1-off projects Hourly rates for the team ## GRAVITY 1. How do you expect to get funding? TEC Common Pool First Gitcoin grants Request funding from other DAOs 2. How much money do we need? 3k per month for Juanka's salary Then as we scale to other DAOs Payment for gravitons that are solving disputes within DAOs is an open question so we will see what that adds 3. How do we want to organize? Will ask for opportunities Proposal Inverter? ## Communications 1. How do you expect to get funding? TEC Common pool 2. How much money do we need? 6-8k to start for small base rates and overhead Then hourly project rates 3. How do we want to organize? Might do a Colony or an Aragon Base rates Project focused ## Soft Gov 1. How do you expect to get funding? Make proposals on a project basis 2. How much money do we need? Will vary based on the projects 3. How do we want to organize? A gnosis safe Governauts is very aligned with the Soft Gov effort Might be a cross project effort ## Stewards 1. How do you expect to get funding? TEC Common pool is more understood than Praise and SourceCred so that... most working group leads will get funding themselves but there are Stewards not leading a WG. Considertion to support all stewards. A pre-requisite would be to create a graceful offboarding experience. Allowing members to come into and out of the role. 2. How much money do we need? Will be more accurate when we're closer to the Commons upgrade. 3. How do we want to organize? Stewards that arent in a working group should get some small stipend We will need to get an offboarding of some sort really nailing down. We have ## Token Holder Relations/Future Funding 1. How do you expect to get funding? TEC Common Pool 2. How much money do we need? too early.... TBD 3. How do we want to organize? We'll find out. ## TRANSPARENCY 1. How do you expect to get funding? TEC Common pool Juanka thinks it could scale to other DAOs 2. How much money do we need? 6k a month 3. How do we want to organize? An Aragon DAO ## Extra thoughts In 1hive, some people rely on sourcecred and it would be slow.. might be delayed. Buzz gets funding from CV and then creates bounties. - Dosh and solar will set up a vote Budgets that people can manage for small things Timing is tough (difficult to predict right now the budget needs of the WG in 3 months from now) Sourcecred/praise will not b e an income... just a bonus... will likely be a small experiment. Salary for the stewards might be a good idea... Certain goals for each steward... Clear goals that can be checked off Need to breakdown the actual work so it can be delegated and funded "we need to do these 5 things every week, each one will cost this much" # Rock, Scissor, Paper competition - Terrace The contenders: * Nelson * Tamara * James * Mark * Eduardo * Sebastien The champion: * Sebastien ![](https://i.imgur.com/Aaaa8yW.jpg) # The year is 2100.... - Windows Chuy, Nate, Tamara, Felipe Riffing on what our world and culture could look like in the year 2100. https://hackmd.io/3NZANod0R2CzMffJykYTZA # What is Legitimacy - 3:15 - Hideout The more we question the state, the more we question our own group... On chain legitmacy is so clear! Off chain... Livia: Realted to a sense of belonging, if something is silo'd or comes from force.. then it is not legitimate to me! Griff: https://vitalik.ca/general/2021/03/23/legitimacy.html Zep: Does it follow our MVV James: Connected to communities. Legitimacy is important to the people in that community Theo: Companies: hierarchy Democracy: 1 person 1 vote DAOs... ? Shrug!!! ?? Legitmacy is implicit anc can't be modeled perfectly You opt in or you object ... if no one objects then the proposal passes Mateo: A truth guided by a general acceptance... Mitch: Can legitamacy be quantified? or is it a yes or no? How long does it take? Some times like with a coop... There is a lot of influence too that makes things legitimate. Angela: there is a working group in Coala around Legitimacy.. they are looking at it with legal framework Legitamacy was force: illusion of freedom... we have soft coersion Narratives around founders Implicit vs explicit legitimacy - Implicit: everyone's opinion counts... hard to game but hard to control - Explicit: easy to understand, easy to game Always an agreement Sebastien: Values, beliefs, the idea of coersion... legimacy = evolutionary advantage in the beggining survival of the fittest was the only form of legitimacy. Brute force/performance the ground level of legitimacy.. the rest derive off of it. There was a long conversation about whether brute force is legitimate... no clear agreement Is participatory economics legit? What tools should we use to bring legitimacy? Challenging a legit process is easier/simpler than challanging a semi-legit process. Took 5 minutes to use advice process as opposed to using # Augmented Bonding Curves - Windows * Supply * TECH minted/burned * Collateral * Total value (wxDAI) in the pool * determined by Commons tribute, raise & amount * Price * Free-floating * Reserve ratio Proof of weak hands: transparent ponzi schemes Augmented bonding curve: a BC with an attached commons to it. Future of the TC is quanitifed by the market by this BC. Speculation is taxed by the tributes. What are the parameters we have to decide? * Entry tribute * Exit tribute Tributes are funneled into the funding pool. Note: the conversation revolved around a window as whiteboard that can't be captured in a photo. # Setting Expections - Windows - 5pm We need to tell people how things work - This should be part of the onboarding - It might be uncomfortable - Written agreements are critical... they can be a reference and a guide - Expectations around impact hours and the process needs to be agreed on. - The DAO is reliant on the Commons Stack now still... this will be very different than post the Commons Upgrade. - Working groups have to set expectations on their own as well - Setting expectations after the Hatch is probably best to be low for contributors... - Setting expectations about things other than money. - We should ask everyone joining what their expectations are. - Work agreements for maintence tasks is important - Universal payment systems are weird, new contributors might be over compensated, long term ones might be over compensated... but maybe thats ok, it encourages high turn over... and this is great actually! - High turnover could be benefitial for the individual. - Regular salaries are not a great idea for the DAO... then we become slaves we should create bounties on things that need to be done. - Its not like a traditional work place where you do the work assigined to you Best community payment models: - General Magic - We should explore new things - MakerDAO: great work with sourcecred it looks really nice - Burning Man: 10 principles.. no payments - Amazon Principles: disagree but then commit - Do you work for a DAO or do you work for yourself? - DAOhaus: put your hours in a spreadsheet, if there is no objections it works - Kolectivo: Salaries - Commons Stack: Salaries - Bitcoin - Proof of Work baby!!!!! - Opolis: freelancer support - Sourcecred+Praise is voted on and refined on a regular basis - Traditional Corporate expectations are great 40 hours a week / you get this salary, clear boss who decides what you do - People pooling resources to achieve x Artists collectives, etc... - Retro active rewards at milestones # How do we bring value to TE's - A Journal of sort - Building tools that we can play with - Like the Dashboard that we're building - More modular dashboards - Awards ceremony - best TE of the year - Make complimentary trainings liek the TE Academy - More classes - Graviton Training - Look up what services IEEE does - Certification for TE's - A Curated Journal/blog that only experts can partake in - A Professional Safe Place for discussion where anyone can ask dumb questions - Badges, POAPs, etc - TEGG!!!! - TE podcast and other content creation - SHORT! - Outreach to other Universities! - Token Engineering class - There are a lot of ways - Info Sessions # Is Cultural Work TE? 1. Juanka: YES, this is such 2. Mateo: everything becomes cultural at some point 3. Zep: No,If you are playing football you are doing sport, but if you are a psychologist then you are not doing sport, you are doing it. 4. Nathan: Yes, it's in many ways social engineering, 5. Dan: No, The TEC work is not so scientific... the big people doing the work 6. Mitch: No, what we are doing is TE work 7. Theo: No, it is super important but it should be separate. The TE solution is one thing... its incomplete without the social community work but its not token engineering. 8. YES!
