--- title: The HA Corvette job tags: Lancer --- # The HA Corvette job ## The gist of it The players are hired by a Harrison Armory representative called Kassandra Newton (She has long black hair and a no-nonsense attitude) to retrieve a package inside of a crashed HA corvette on a tropical planet called Engiri. The Players arrive on Engiri, in Engiri City, they don't know where the shipwreck is located, or how it got "shot down", all they know is that it stopped emitting yesterday in the afternoon, and all seemed fine at the time, however when the ship didn't do its mandatory check in a few hours after that's when some of the higher ups in HA started to worry something was amiss, they contacted their orbital platform and got a confirmation, Corvette Sigma never left Engiri. The player's HA contact will meet them after they confirm retrieval of a blue box with a red seal on it, they didn't elaborate on what it contains, and if asked they won't elaborate, the players are asked not to open the box. ## Intro ### Part I - Investigate Asking around in Engiri city will lead to the following clues: -There was no smoke after the crash, which would have allowed for an easier location of the wreck, this is unusual. -No one knows of anything HA related on this planet, in fact the local government has a specific embargo on anything HA related being on this planet at all, and negotiated with Union to make sure this was respected, this conflicts with the info HA gave as they mentioned their Corvette taking off from the planet. -People however do know about a small town that has frequent airship deliveries, usually once per day, however since yesterday no such ship delivery went in their direction at all, both to come or go, the route can be given freely to the players. I recommend putting those 3 informations at different spots, and I recommend embracing randomness for NPCs if you have the Long Rim, roll for their character traits ! ### Part II - Journey -Once the players finally decide to check the route, they can embark for their journey through the jungle, which is going to be a skill challenge to go through unharmed, on a failure they all take 4 mech damage. -This is also a good opportunity for players to esthablish some group dynamics or flesh them out if they are already there, encourage this with prompts (what do you think of the Pegasus pilot you are teaming up with ? Does the Lich scare your character ? What do you think of this job ? etc...) ## Finding the ship - The fight The Corvette crash landed in the middle of the forest, plenty of opportunity for soft cover (trees and bushes) and hard cover (bits and pieces of the corvette, rocks, big trees). Use a control sitrep and put the control points near the shipwreck, probably in a position that is closer to the Opponents than to the players, then make the players deploy on the northern extrimity of the map. ### Opponents The players will find that some looters are pillaging the crashed ship, who they are exactly is up to you, but I would recommend making them outright hostile, here is a few ideas: * They are pirates who shot down the Corvette. * They are a group of scientists who are here to get whatever they can to sell it back to HA at a price that is way too high. * They are mercs hired to also look for this ship, but they were ordered to shoot anyone on sight. ### NPCs This assumes a 4-players party at tier 1. Adjust according to the number of players and their level. | Role | Number | |:-------:|:------ | | Bastion (Fearless Defender) | 1 | | Assault (Rank Discipline) | 2 | | Hive (Driving Swarm) | 1 | | Archer |1 | Priest (Greater Investiture) | 1 #### The NPC gameplan: The Hive should try to put down its swarms in as many control points as possible while shooting at people through walls thanks to its seeking weapon. The 2 Assaults should split and try to contest zones if they can, and occupy them if they can, try to place them in cover to shoot down people on certain points to get them off from them. The Bastion, Hive and Archer should try to lock down one of the two "alleyways" on the map, the Archer can take cover behind the Bastion while the Priest does its Greater Investiture on the Bastion while staying in cover, the Bastion can use its Fearless Defender reaction if one of the Assaults is near enough to warrant it. ### Map ![Corvette crash site map](https://i.imgur.com/IUshvJA.png) > **Grey**: Rocks, provide hard cover > **Black**: Corvette wreck > **Dark Green**: Forest > **Light Green**: Grass > **Skin Pink**: Trail the corvette left while crashing > **Blue**: Energy Difficult Terrain. > ### What's in the corvette Ultimately it is up to you, but you should know that the players will want to know about it, if you need something to inspire you or just to put in this Corvette, here’s the McGuffin Table: | Number | Result | |:--------:|:------------------ | | 1 | There is a sealed metal box with a label that says “stabilized but dangerous paracausal hardlight generator prototype”, opening it is a bad idea, if it is opened ask your players to take 5 ap energy damage, if they are pilots allow for a skill check to dodge, if they are in mechs they automatically get hit, as the powerful surge of energy explodes in various directions. | | 2 | A whole gene bank for a whole lot of HA elites, can potentially sell absurdly high on the black market as they could be used to clone someone and ransom them back for money. | | 3 | Plans for a new general market frame from HA specializing in energy weapons, a skill check will reveal it is actually a “crypto plan”, it looks fine in practice but the technical details fall apart once you start to seriously think about it, instead revealing weird codewords in unexpected places. | | 4 | Deeds for a planet far away from here, with plans to build a massive mega structure on it, a side note on the bottom right reads “issue to solve: locals”. | | 5 | An NHP in its coffin, Their class is unknown even to themselves, as is their purpose, they will only “activate” if the players decide to flip a switch, otherwise they will remain dormant, this NHP is obsessed with a “facility” that they wants to return to and will loudly protest if the players want to take them back to their HA contact, if installed in a mech they will try and force a hostile takeover to force said mech to go to “the facility”. They don’t know why they want to go back, only that they need to go there. | | 6 | There is enough guns there to arm a small army, there is only a single address for those and it is Dawline Shore, close inspection of these guns (a skill check) will reveal those are shoddy and malfunctioning on purpose. who they are meant for is unclear. | Edited by: Elesday Original idea by: Elderino
