    ###### tags: `Meeting Notes` # 2022-06-28 Core Team Meeting _Attendees:_ - Afri - Franzi - Helena - Arseney - Kaan - Katze - Alex S - Awe - Anna - Nich - Eylon - Rose - Nathan ## General Updates & Discussion - Welcome to all the new joiners, in case we never did an intro round for ALL, let's do it this week! Please give a short intro covering - How you got here :) - What connects you to ETHBerlin - What your strenghts & interests for contributing are / in which workstream you are (if you have one yet) - If you've never been to ETHBerlin, please check this thread to get some of the vibes: https://twitter.com/ETHBerlin/status/1540336217753001985 - If you're new here, please read our [hacker manifesto](https://office.ethberl.in/pad/#/2/pad/view/YY5CtWD3j+15ro-1itD78Pz0v2wd-9vUurTXdUyH7mc/embed/) - Copying our priciples as a collective here from the Matrix chat welcome message for convenience (see misc) - Open (or unclear) positions for workstream leads: - Volunteer coordination lead - has all touchpoints with volunteers, on-site coordination, management - Judging (ask Lasse & Chris if they want to support again) - Could start off with a judging call to talk about how we could do things differently this year - Hacker knowledge base? - Would be good to have an onboarding document for devs (resources list, basic 101 things), can be a simple HackMD - Mentoring lead (Caspar, Anna, maybe revive Philipp, maybe Kyrill - do we need more help here or are we good on that front?) - Art (MP, Stina) - Potential collaboration opportunity with NFT Club Berlin? - Matrix ETHBerlin space, now public and private rooms! General and Watercooler are the public rooms at the moment. - Should we also use Status (Afri set up a room there) for public comms? ## Update Round of Workstreams (workstream leads in brackets) #### General / Legal (Afri) - Access to bank account pending (Sparkasse) - Call with Factory Thursday if anyone wants to join - Kickoff call to start talking about floor plans, purposes for each room, technical requirements etc. - Event liability insurance: 500 server error #### Admin / Accounting (Raul, is in Argentina) - sponsors: 3 contracts signed, 3 invoices sent #### Core Planning (Franzi) - Looking for EtherCards alternative, but EtherCards might actually print cards for us -> https://twitter.com/akomba/status/1540584867330768896 - EtherCards: scratch-off wallet with testnet tokens that they can use throughout the event like a throwaway ID, could potentially give voting rights to determine the hackathon winner as well. - NEXT STEPS: Need to give them quantity and design. - In touch with PSE team for QV of hackathon projects - PSE team developed some framework to do QV without the risk of getting bribed. Would be interesting to allocate 50% votes to judges and 50% to the community and do QV. The team is stretched quite thin right now though. - NEXT STEPS: Get on a call with them and sync on requirements and possibilities - Supporting fundraising - TODO Drafting first schedule for the weekend - Venue / room allocations etc. #### Design (Hany, No BS) - Follow up call with Franzi, Helena, Afri to look at general direction for brand and theme, now have weekly update calls - Logo is still WIP #### Website (Kaan) - Waiting on design - First priority is the sponsorship deck, working on reflecting the brand direction on our current deck now - Need to start drafting some content for the website #### Sponsors (Christopher, Nichanan) - Tier 0 is sold out: Dune Analytics, WalletConnect, Manta Network - Updated sponsor deck: https://office.ethberl.in/file/#/2/file/6RU7tBfKvp2EKcDf1kr0hImZ/ - We currently have more people interested in Tier 1 than we do slots, so we're looking good to fill those out - Call with Ethereum ESP last week (waiting for decision) - Call with Uniswap Grants today at 3PM - Infura call moved to tmw at 6pm, waiting for NYM to confirm this week as well #### Community & Communications (Helena) - Reviving our twitter now - https://twitter.com/ETHBerlin & https://medium.com/ethberlin - Waiting for branding to be ready & applications - Meme ideas! Please drop ideas in the core or comms breakout channel. Suggest to go to our previous content to get an idea of the tone and voice of ETH Berlin - Afri created a Ghost blog, idle for now but available if we need it #### Swag (Carl) - Need help from someone who likes swag design and coordination - Swag idea sheet, add your ideas! -> https://office.ethberl.in/sheet/#/2/sheet/edit/M3e9t-iw86vEgBnGMsHl66n7/ #### Experiences Curation (Helena) - Bi-weekly breakout call (next one next week) - Brainstorming some ideas, we would like 2/3 NFT experiences at most - MP & Stina will curate an art exhibition - Brainstorming doc: https://office.ethberl.in/pad/#/2/pad/edit/fS69FOrcweQNLWX-5Ro-2ueL/ #### Content Curation (Afri, Franzi) - thinking of having technical workshops (for top tier sponsors) on Friday - David from Lit? - 3-5 meaningful keynote talks throughout the weekend: - Jarrad from Status? - Mark Nadal from Gun? - NYM? Jaya or Harry or Claudia - DarkFi? - Alec Empire or somebody else from ATR? - ... (add ideas for visionary, value-aligned speakers) #### Volunteers - Rose? #### Mentors (Anna, Caspar) - Caspar (cp from chat): I am syncing with Anna on mentoring after today's weekly. I will not make the call today, but also no news to report for mentoring right now. - Poking Philip if he wants to join again - Kyrill might be interested in joining as well #### Judging - TODO Need to start a kickoff call to decide what to do here #### Entertainment (Helena, Arseny, Kristina) - Still trying to jump on a call with Stani about the closing party - Helena to set up a call next week to start discussing entertainment #### Ticketing (Ligi, Afri) - Preview of the hackers application form: https://office.ethberl.in/form/#/2/form/view/XdHFf3bwn42ai+9qn-x1c6T-LDMC9-c1Md7N742rkOQ/embed/ - Preview of the volunteers application form: https://office.ethberl.in/form/#/2/form/view/2vOeqt5xaojW2IvpeHKwJhaA0uToVWlMm8xjUb6IIdk/embed/ - Preview of the mentors application form: https://office.ethberl.in/form/#/2/form/view/AwcfOH5fhbp8HRCDKLF7umG4aDsv5FPOqaqO4FkAR+o/embed/ - Opening signups this week - end of July - Please review and give feedback - Registrations should open this week - Do we need a form for mentors as well? ## Miscellaneuous > VALUES > If you have been to one of our previous events, you might have noticed that we differ a little bit from most other crypto events. We have a strong set of values and goals that we want to achieve with our hackathon extravaganza. > Before deciding whether this is the right event for you to contribute to, please read our hacker maninfesto and make sure you are aligned with what we stand for and our values. > > ETHBerlin's northstar values are – and always have been: > ‣Opt for open source, and teach the risks involved with rent-seeking proprietary software. > ‣Support and focus on the builders, everything else is secondary. > ‣Aim for distribution of power and decentralization. > > It goes without saying that ETHBerlin is a non-profit event. > > OPERATIONS > > Opting for open source means we will choose open source tools over proprietary, rent-seeking tech wherever possible. This also means we are not using Discord and try to avoid Telegram etc. > > For communication, we use Matrix (e.g. with the Element client) > For "office"-like applications, we use our CryptPad (here is the link to our CryptDrive: https://office.ethberl.in/drive/#/2/drive/view/Rk1LI-6CPqh6DvUTJu8egJedGo28l3-GBVnKbPGTT0Q/), same will apply to sign up forms etc. > We take privacy and data responsibility very seriously and will not spread our hacker data in Google sheets, nor will we sell it to our sponsors etc. > SPONSORS > > We deeply value our sponsors and are very thankful for their contributions. For the sake of creating a useful and impactful event, we will refrain from giving the sponsors a lot of "power", but will rather ask them to give meaningful contributions. Our current sponsorship deck is for OGs and friends of ETHBerlin only, since we don't have a branding yet. We do not offer "special goodies" besides of what is written in the sponsorship deck. No pay to play. If you are curious, you can have a look here -> https://office.ethberl.in/file/#/2/file/tazriEL1zE7dlgn+2whHLz3e/ > Christopher and > nichanank from 1kx are leading the sponsorship efforts and are doing a great work of coordinating everything. If you have an interested sponsor, send them their way. > > CONTRIBUTING TO ETHBERLIN > > The organization behind ETHBerlin, the Department of Decentralization, is a collective. We try to make decisions based on what the majority of our collective believes in and want to give everybody a voice and freedom to contribute. We are all doing this on a voluntary basis, besides our main job. You can consider ETHBerlin a passion project. ❤️ > > If you end up deciding that you want to "own" one of the different workstreams, we expect reliability and self-driven ownership.
