    # A New Earth ## Chapter One **The Human's origin** The human's original/normal state of mind produces maya/duka/sin. Suffering, unsatisfactory, or just plain misery. It's simply a characteristic of the human being. Christianity's original sin means to miss the mark. To sin means to miss the point of human existence. This duka explains the modern world's acceleration towards so much fear, greed, pain etc. Millions of millions of people killed by other people, the treatment of animals and the environment, etc. **The Fundamental Change** Find the goodness in you and allow it to emerge. It can only emerge if something fundamentally changes within you. This fundamental change is well known across spiritual teachings. In Hinduism its called enlightenment. In Christianity its called salvation. **Words** Know that you are not bound by the words and vowels we use to describe things. They have their own beauty but we do not have to be confined by their usage. For example, I is the biggest illusion, where in most cases people associate it with the illusory self, the ego. The person you usually refer to as I is not who you actually are. ## Chapter Two **Talking to Myself** Tolle found a woman talking to herself on a train on his way to university. She was screaming at the seat next to her as if she was wronged. She got up and leaves at the same exit as Eckhart Tolle and ends up going to the same university. Tolle thought to himself how is this crazy person coming here. Then he realized he was talking to himself in his head. If she was mad, then everyone was mad including himself. A difference in degree only. She talks to herself aloud. We talk to ourselves in our head. **Letting Go** _If someone takes your shirt, give them your coat too._ Sometimes the act of letting go is a far greater power than hanging on. You should not associate yourself with any THING because nothing will make you less of a person or less of your character. **Awareness** I am the awareness that is aware that there is attachment. That's the begging of transformation of attachment. You can be attached to anything and have a huge ego. For example you can give up all owned items, yet still align yourself with anti-ownership and have a huge ego. I think therefore I am.- the route to the ego I am, I exist.” Man is above all about a kind of impersonal existence" I am aware that I think, therefore I am- the real key to human thought **Body Association** Positive or negative, people associated a lot of identity with their body. As their body begins to change, looks fade- they begin to lose a sense of self. Identifying that you are more than what you see in the mirror is a key step. **Yielding** Yielding means inner acceptance of what is. You are open to life. Resistance is an inner contraction. You are closed. This will create more outer resistance and the universe will not be on your side. If the shutters are closed, sunlight will not come in. ## Chapter Three- The Core of Ego **Complaining and Resentment** Complaining can become habitual to where you do not even realize you are constantly complaining about the situations you are in. You can also obsess over other people's characters/foolishness/disrespect or whatever it may be. The ego loves it. You make yourself right by resenting others. **Separation** You can keep yourself present and level headed by separating yourself from the ego. Do not obsess over what someone has done that bothers you. Simply do not react to it. For non reaction is forgiveness as you look through their ego and think of the mindful human behind it. Complaining can also come with a more powerful emotion such as anger or grievance. You can continue to tell yourself over a long period that you were wronged by someone or something that happened. This can contaminate other things in your life. Such as making you feel less motivated due to your thoughts of the past. Do not try to forget it tho. Simply see that it is a factor that keeps the ego in place. Seeing is freeing. **Being right, making wrong** When you complain you are making yourself right and claiming that others are wrong. Pushing the blame onto someone else. This greatly strengthens the ego. The history of christianity is a perfect example of this. They were right so it became more important than human life. Thousands of people were killed just because the church had to be right. **The Ego is not Personal** Us against them is even more insane than me, the individual ego. By far the greater part of violence that humans have inflicting on others is not the mentally deranged but normal citizens in the works of the ego. Complete identification with thought and emotion (ego). You align others with the enemy and align yourself as the correct one and therefore superior. The humanity is removed as they aren't human. They are the enemy. **War is a mind-set** Whenever you pose something as a war and create two sides, you only cause the "enemy" to either reside in you or move something else. War on drugs, war on crime, even war on diseases have caused an increase in all of these things. War is a mind set. This either strengthens the enemy, or creates a bigger, better enemy. **Beyond Ego** All you have to do to beat the ego is to be aware of it. Can I sense my essential being-ness (The I am) in the background of my life at all times? Can I sense the I am that I am, at this moment? Or am I losing myself in the mind, in the world? **Ego and Fame** Fame can begin to feel empty as those around begin to use you. Even if they did not know they are using you, they will often subconsciously look to complete themselves through you of rather the image they have of you as a famous person. Some famous people fall into the collective fiction. The image people and the media have created of them. And they begin to feel superior to normal mortals. As a result they become more and more alienated from themselves and others. More and more unhappy. More and more dependent on their continuing popularity. Only surrounded by people who feed their self image. ## Chapter Four **Villain, Victim, Lover** Whenever you feel superior or inferior to someone, know that is the ego. Victim- More often then not, when you have a painbody, your ego feels the need to complain, to make other people feel bad for you and itself. Sympathy, pity, or interest in my problems. Me and my story. The ego being a victim can show in complaining, being offended, outraged, or essentially telling people to feel sorry for you. Ego doesn't want your problems to go away because then people wont care about me anymore. **Happiness as a Role vs True Happiness** Many people play a role and will say "I'm good" no matter what the circumstances. If you are unhappy you must address it. Say "Why is there unhappiness inside me?". If you cannot figure it out, well accept it and try to move on. Don't let it play a huge role in hindering you. If you can point it to something, stick with the facts. Don't say "I'm miserable" because that's a story. Say "I only have 50 cents left in my bank account". What you say largely dictates how you feel. If you complain and convince yourself you're sad and can't do anything about it, well you're stuck. If you list the facts and start attacking how to fix it, you'll be over it in no time. **Giving up Role Playing** If you do not play any role, you will make the most out of life, and influence others. Don't fall into playing the role of yourself though. Just be spontaneous you. Do what your gut tells you, not how your mind thinks you should act in the given situation. And do not worry about others judging you. Just know they are limiting themselves in their judgment. **The Background Unhappiness** Often times we are unconsciously in a constant state of annoyance or just unhappiness. We don't even realize it as it is just like the dreamer who dreams. We are just caught in a sort of sleepy state. We must constantly be aware of these thoughts and feelings creeping in. The simple recognition of this background unhappiness will help eliminate it. **The Secret of Happiness** I'll just be happy once i do this. Ill never be happy because of this. The ego continuously keeping itself alive making sure you are never happy. It feeds off of it. One with life. Be present at every moment. Don't let life live you. In zen they say don't seek the truth, just cease to cherish opinions. Let go of identification with your mind. Who are you being the mind then emerges by itself. ## Chapter Five- The Pain-body **Emotions and the Ego** I don't deserve things, Life always lets me down, nobody likes me, nobody respects me, etc. These general, vague assumptions are a stream of negative emotion that have no truth and are simply another egoic pattern. **The Duck with a Human Mind** A fight breaks out among ducks. They will make noises and maybe make some swift movements at each other, but will move apart and move on. If ducks had human minds, they would turn the fight into so much more. "Who does he think he is? He came within five inches of me. He thinks he owns this pond. I will never trust him again. I'm sure he's plotting something already." His mind would spin and spin into irrational emotional thinking. In this way we should be more like ducks. Flap your wings and move on to the only place of power. The present moment. **Carrying the Past** Most people carry around years of guilt, regret, confusion, or other emotions for no reason. They limit themselves from emotional growth by adding to their 'painbody'. **Individual and Collective** There exists both and individual and collective painbody. For most people, it starts in childhood, when you deal with emotional stress by childishly holding onto the anger/frustration. For most people though, they never learn to react differently and continue to add to their painbody. Collective painbodies are formed from the groups that commit wrongdoings around the world, and the people reacting to them. People obsess over every little bit of drama they see on the news/TV and hold it with them forever. **How the Pain-body Renews Itself** The painbody is an addiction to unhappiness. There's something in you that continuously feeds for unhappiness, annoyances. Pay attention and you will notice this. The painbody will look for any source of emotional stress and make you obsess over it. Painbodies can even feed off each other and look to bring out one anothers painbody. **How the Pain-body Feeds on Drama** The painbody can feed off of your drama with another person as it looks to bring out the painbody of them so that both can work together. This is why so many parents get in constant fights, and only make up when the ego allows them to so that it can continue to feed off the pain and stress another day. This could also be why so many people see a change in their partner after the honeymoon phase. Their painbody shines through and the person you knew before is hidden, as baggaged stress and discomfort shines through. In this situation work to show them their painbody and help them suppress it. **Entertainment, Media, and the Pain-body** So much of our entertainment, news, and media today revolves around feeding the painbody. Violent movies, and TV shows that show suffering of all kinds. Negative headlines and stories that work to show how awful the world and the other side of politics are. All because the media world has grown to learn that this is what sells. Positive content just wouldn't give them good ratings. The more negative and outrageous, the better the ratings. ## Chapter 6- Breaking Free: Removing the Pain-body **Presence** The first and biggest step in removing the painbody is again to be present. Be aware that it exists and continue to live in the moment. If you let yourself become unconscious, your painbody will take over and cause you to do things you did not mean to. e.g. road rage, hurting someone. You get caught in anger/stress and forget to think logically. Sometimes you need to be ok with the unhappiness. Address it and manage it. The moment you stop identifying with the feeling, it can no longer control your thinking and become mixed up with the story of I am unhappy. **The Painbody of Children (Or other people)** Stay grounded when you notice someone else's painbody speaking through them. Do not let emotions flow in and force you to lose control as well. Don't take it too seriously. Don't give their painbody what they want as it will teach them that the worse they act, the more attention they get. When they move on maybe the next day or so, you can talk to them about it. What was it that came over you yesterday? What did it feel like? That thing that took over you... does it have a name? How did you feel? What happened when it went away? Will it come back? (More for children of course). **Unhappiness** Not all unhappiness is from the painbody. Some can be new, yet derived from the painbody. A slight annoyance in your day to day life can trigger an exaggerated reaction where you quickly jump to the conclusion that you are miserable, lonely, etc. **Breaking Identification from the Pain-Body** Some people are so aligned with their pain-body that they pretty much act as it at all times. A person with a heavy painbody can cause others to immediately want to distance themselves from that person. If you remain present when interacting with the person though, they may have a mini awakening and become aware of how they are acting. **Breaking Free of the Pain-body** How long does it take to remove identification with the painbody? No time at all. When old emotion rises up immediately un-identify yourself with it, and do not let it control you. Allow yourself to feel how you feel in that moment. Recognize the feelings and do not attempt to justify/get angry at your past or present self. ## Chapter 7- Finding Who You Truly Are **Who You Think You Are** Realize that when you freak out over complications or stressful times in your life, you are essentially equating those events to who you are. The stock market crashes. You panic and stress and begin to spiral into all that this means for your finances. You let the ego freak you out and equate you to such small events. Over milennia, or even just over your lifetime, this small movement means almost nothing. When you take a step back and, of course do the proper steps first, maybe remove any positions from getting worse, but don't let it completely control you. Look at the bigger picture and remain calm. In this sense you can allow yourself to be bigger as well. **Abundance** Lack. Lack of something and why you cannot get it is what so many people focus on. Why am I not doing better at this or that? Nobody around me appreciates me. My boss just doesn't understand. Blah blah blah. You focus on what you don't have and blame it on others, yet never bring up what is good in your life. The secret to abundance is to do just that. _"Whatever you think people are holding from you, give it to them. You don't have it? Just act as if you have it and it will come. Then soon after you start giving, you will start receiving."_ Ask constantly what can I give here? **Knowing Yourself and Knowing About Yourself** When you only know about yourself, you only refer to 'content'. Content consists of your past, present, future, events that happened to you, age, etc. What is there other than that you might ask? The inner space of consciousness. The thing that allows all of those to exist. **Chaos and Higher Order** _"The snow falls, each flake in it's appropriate place."_ It isn't until you are truly still and present that you see the higher order of what goes on in nature. There is a natural cycle of life and death, not equated to good and bad, but simply carrying out its process for years and years over. **Good and Bad** Good and bad are essentially illusory. All of our life we associate things with good and bad. Old age, death, pain, loss etc. all are bad. All of these things though, do not exist without an alternative. Each aspect of our life that we categorize as good or bad is simply how it is. We get trapped in this illusory fragmentation of the universe and let it control and sway our emotions. Instead of judging what is, accept it and move on. There are no events that exist in isolation in this universe. There is always a connection. **The Ego and the Present Moment** _"Do I want the present moment to be my friend or my enemy"_ You can control your every present moment. Make it your friend always, and you get rid of the ego. You will see life give back to you as you make the present moment a good one always. The ego on the other hand will treat the present as a means to an end, as an obstacle, or as an enemy. * A means to an end- the present only gets you to a point in the future to something more important. This is where stress can derive and is people's day to day life. * An obstacle- this time just sucks, but as soon as its over, that's when I can get around to being happier. Problem is, there is always an obstacle so the present will constantly be un-enjoyable. Life- "Treat me as a problem, and I'll treat you like a problem" * An enemy- You tell yourself a bunch of shoulds. This should be like this, and that should be like that. You are making your present into an enemy and life says if war is want you want, war is what you get. _"What is my relationship with the present moment?"_"- since the present is all you have, this really means: what is my relationship with my life. **Eliminating Time** Eliminate time. Not clock time but the ego's perception of time. Past and future. Holding onto the past and worrying about the future. There is no evidence of anything other than the present. Whenever you allow the present moment to be as it is, you erode time and the ego. **The Dreamer and the Dream** Everyone gets so wrapped up in drama and other minuscule things that seem like a big deal in the moment, but then when they pass you look back and think about how they could be compared to a dream. There is almost no difference to thinking about a dream the night before, and drama from the week before. Its all just a memory in your head. There's you, the dreamer, and the dream. Your consciousness is the dreamer. The dreamer is what allows the dreams to happen. You just appear in the dreams. The dreams are all the things you obsess over that are not the present moment. When you wake yourself from the dream, you become part of the new earth. **Allowing the Diminishment of the Ego** The ego has several ways of replenishing itself in any situation. This is especially true with arguments, anger. When someone criticizes you or accuses you of something, your immediate thought is to scream right back. This works against the diminishment of ego. Next time this happens, resist the urge to defend yourself and sit in the feeling of being accused. You will realize that nothing has changed. You are no lesser, and there is no need to start an argument. _"When you no longer defend or attempt to strengthen the form of yourself, you step out of identification with form, with mental self image."_ There are times to defend yourself in certain situations, but most are petty and unnecessary. **As Without, So Within** When you stare out into the stars you recognize the vast nothingness and this alone shows the secret distinction in life between form and nothing. The empty space almost points to something within you, showing that you have a connection to and an ability to achieve this awakening (your inner space). The very word Buddha has a secret meaning to it (in Chinese). One character means man and one means no. The two together mean Buddha. Here are the two dimensions that make up life- form and the denial of form. 佛 ## Chapter 8- The Discovery of Inner Space **Object Consciousness and Space Consciousness** This too shall pass at first glance seems to encourage you to look past the bad times, but also to not regard the good times as something to hold on to. In reality, this too shall pass simply means you recognize the transience of all things and the inevitability of change. When you can recognize the detachment from forms and the inner space of your being, you can celebrate good times even more so as you know you do not have to worry about the fear of loss or the anxiety of the future. * Object Consciousness- life is one thing after another. Constant thoughts of anxiety of what's going around you * Space Consciousness- when you are able to feel the inner space around your thoughts and your being and recognizing the loss of form **Falling Below and Rising Above Thought** There are some things that can seem like they are guiding you to space consciousness as you feel more relaxed and unaware of your issues. Alcohol, drugs, etc. Instead of rising above thought, you fall below it. **Television** Your own thought becomes suspended and you are free of yourself. This may also seem like inner space, but unfortunately it is not. Your thoughts have linked up to the collective mind of the TV. Your mind becomes susceptible to manipulation, which many times, news channels, and organizations with an agenda take advantage of. Some TV this is not the case, for example comedy that truly makes us laugh and enjoy ourselves is good for the soul, but a lot of TV nowadays is manipulative. **Recognizing Inner Space** Whenever you take a moment to be kind to a stranger for no reason other than to be kind, or sit alone and at peace, without lonely thoughts, or recognize the beauty in something, an amount of inner space has opened up. When this happens, look to the background of that experience. Many poets have recognized, sometimes the smallest things make up the strongest forms of happiness. **Can You Hear the Mountain Stream** Being still and recognizing that which happens around you can be a path to your inner space. **Inner Body Awareness** Being able to be aware of your 'aliveness' within your body is incredibly calming and powerful. Feel the inner space. Most people seek inner peace and happiness through someone else. Especially with a spouse. "I'm going to find that one that will make me happy", but then suddenly the uneasiness comes back, and the spouse is often the one blamed for that. Take a moment to recognize your inner body and to feel that it is alive. Practice doing this with you eyes closed, and then move onto being able to feel it with your eyes open. **Lose Yourself to Find Yourself** De-emphasize your form identity. Notice the moments in which you emphasize it and therefore strengthen your ego. These can include: 1. Demanding recognition for something that you did and getting angry if you don't get it 2. Getting attention for talking about your problems 3. Giving you opinion when nobody asked for it and it makes no difference to the situation 4. Caring more about how someone sees you rather than about the other person 5. Trying to make an impression on others based on possessions, knowledge, money, looks, etc. 6. Taking things personally 7. Feeling offended 8. Making yourself right and others wrong through complaining 9. Wanting to be seen Whenever you notice yourself in these moments, step back and see how you feel when you don't continue them. ## Chapter 9- Your Inner Purpose **Awakening** Your inner purpose is to awaken. It is as simple as that. Awakening is the point at which you can become aware of thought but not become apart of it. You can recognize the space associated with your everyday life. The space between thoughts, actions, feelings. Some feel as if they are in a empty space between two worlds as you recognize the madness around you that this world gets absorbed by. **A Dialogue on Inner Purpose** ###### tags: `Mindfulness`
