# Ghost Brains {%hackmd @ZeWaka/dark-theme %} [TOC] ## Goal Provide an alternative means, through direct player action, to get dead players back in the game. Players will create a means to "trap" ghosts in a ghost brain, this will bind the ghost such that the brain can be used as a typical brain would. ## Game Impact ### Active player pool This will allow for players to have a means of returning to the round in some fashion. This will allow the station to maintain numbers to improve the amount of player interaction. Conversely this may adversely shift dread and threat as deadly antagonists attempt to clear out the station. (Leveraging the existing ghost done delay, or longer could help.) ### Cloning This should help with reliance on early scanning to ensure some capability of bringing food back. This does create a way for the crew to deal with disablement of cloning or deletion of cloning records. ### Observer Knowledge This then becomes an avenue where information learned as an observer and/or post death meta-gaming to impact the round. This aspect will likely increase administrative burden and may necessitate the ability to ban the use of the feature for certain players. (While captured, the ghost is mostly limited in being able to view around where they are anchored.) ## Proposed Implementation ### Brain Creation Robotics fabricator provided with ghost brain recipe . Ghost brain will require soulsteel. ### Capture A ghost entering the turf with the brain, assuming it hadn't already been activated, will initiate an actionbar (with animated overlay) showing that it is "capturing" something. Once anchored the ghost would be unable to leave the brain. Moving will cause the brain to wiggle and glow helping indicate it is "occupied". ### Favor Silicon If the ghost brain is used in a living creature it will have periodic effects that limit efficacy of the mob. This gives cloning and borging the preferred methods that already have some form of limitation. - Movement slowdown - Loss of vision color - Momentary paralysis - Loss of hearing (?) - Loss of ability to speak (?) - Misstep (?) ## Expansion Opportunities ### Gimmick Job Ghost buster but they are out collecting ghosts to shove in bodies. Would either be a late-join job once ghosts reach a threshold or event could spawn from pool. ### Require Use on Ghost Instead require players to use brain on ghost to trap them. Adds more ectoplasm usage as well as increasing player engagement with whole activity. ### Allow use on Bots Allow for brains to be slapped on floor/medi/fire bots. Would add overlay to mob indicating it is being player controlled. Could have a more basic version of brain to allow this behavior too, as a treat.
