## Notes
Note-takers: Ben and Peter
### Debrief 2021.01
- Cool new features, among others: 802.15.4 security, ipv6 multicast, ...
- New forum, pretty active
- Automated tests are good improvement, more of that for next release / CI?
- Optimize tracking of deprecation in future releases?
- Should we do point releases or just updating the release branch?
- Martine: Important bugs warrant point releases (= downloadable tar ball)
- Leandro: Should we indicate that minor bugfixes might not be part of the tagged version?
- Martine: Yes
- Document Process on the new website / link downloads
- Leandro: Update doxygen/readme first
- Martine will take care :)
### Release manager 2021.04
- Missing volunteers
- Peter: how about akshai?
- He is not yet a maintainer...
- According to round-robin it would be FU's turn
- Hauke declined
- Martine doesn't want (was RM 6 months ago)
- Matthias: No need to decide here since maintainers assembly is not complete
- Martine will ask on "maintainers" (forum)
- Emmanuel suggests to unicast requests
- Martine will ask Jean Pierre Dudey?
### Release manager 2021.07
- Martine: Next try, who volunteers? if we keep round robin, it would be inria
- Emmanuel: Will discuss internally and get back to maintainers with decision
### New Website
#### General remarks
- Demo at https://riot-os.github.io/riot-os.org
- Repo at https://github.com/RIOT-OS/riot-os.org
- Needs some content
#### Procedure for merging PRs
- Kaspar: Nice job! But surprised about quick merge. Keep spirit of openness?
- Leandro: Plan was to merge into branch first, PRing to master was unintentional
- Matthias: It is transperent since it was discussed in forum and meetings
- Matthias: Former repository did not reflect the deployed website, so it was decoupled already
- Kaspar: Do we intend to keep our "best practices" in this repo?
- Leandro: PRs have been made and were reviewed. so yes?
- Leandro:
- Urge to move forward fast with this project.
- Intent to first have a big portion of work done.
- Subsequent improvements can follow our usual process.
#### Tracking suggestions from forum
- Martine: Forum brought up potential fixes already. do we want to open a tracking issue?
- Matthias & Leandro: Sure
- Martine proposes to use 'projects' alternatively for tracking but leaves the decision to Leandro
#### Quotes and blog on website
- RIOT use cases for quotes
- Leandro: motivates / calls for users to contribute "stories" to be displayed on the website
- Leandro: A blog-like needs to be fed with posts
- Ben: Implementers of a new feature could write a blog post to promote it
- Chrysn: Like in Debian or Gnome: not a standalone blog but a aggregated thing (via RSS)
- Ben: but then, every potential contributor whould need to maintain an individual blog?
- Matthias: Main question is about content. having 3-5 posts ready would be good. if we cannot achieve that, he is sceptical about it
- Emmanuel: It is unlikely that we have 5 brand new posts withing 3 weeks, but maybe we can start with existing posts right away
- Kaspar: What would be a reasonable frequency of posts?
- Emmanuel: It is more about quality
- Matthias: 1/ month (or so) would be nice
- Ben: Other communities have 1/year but it is ok as long as the content is good
- Martine: Sign of life should be sufficent
- Leandro: We can launch and add blog later
### CODEOWNERS cleanup
- Ben: If you feel over-notified, just update the file and remove yourself, if you feel responsible for a module, please add yourself
- Martine: And vice versa, add yourself if you want more insights
### Maintainer Ping
Martine: When forum was migrated, noticed some maintainers are missing. Of those for some we don't know if they're still active.
Had a maintainer ping ~1a ago. Should we repeat this, maybe make annual? So we have clean-up of maintainers, and not keep "Karteileichen".
Kaspar: Good idea, maybe together with the summit. Can do it at the summit.
### Next VMA
Martine: Really easy, just copy-paste ;-)
Emmanuel volunteers as nobody else does.
