# Barta
**Note:** This documentation has been prepared to keep track of the idea & progress of this platform while developing, and it is by no means a finilized documentation. The requirements and functionalities may change time to time.

## What is Barta?
Barta is a data collection platform developed by [Bengali.AI](https://www.facebook.com/bengaliAI/) for the purpoe of creating video based [sign language](https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sign_language) datasets. It is mainly tagreted towards the continuous sign language. It provides both data collection and validation features supported for various languages. It is inspired by the [Mozilla Common Voice](https://commonvoice.mozilla.org/) project.

### Terminalogies
* **validators:** A person who validates the video not any kind of automated software
* **start_time:** From which time stamp the video should start.
* **end_time:** At which time stamp the video should stop.
* **lighting:** How was the lighting while recording the video.
* **camera_view:** From which side the video has been recorded. Right, Left or front?

**Note:** start_time and end_time is needed in order to trim down unnecessary informations.

### How the users will validate the video?
Here the *validators* will validate uploaded videos.

Before annotation they will check the video details like *starttime, endtime, lighting, camera_view.* And also look through the video if it's quality meets their standards. They can also do some slight changes to the video details if they wanted from the edit section. They will provide like/dislike based on thier judgement and we will also store that like/dislike data to check the credibility of that video.

After annotation they can also check the quality of that annotation from this section of the website. We will show the annotated text as a subtitle of that video. Here the side buttons are to switch between different section of the webpage (Switch between features)

1. This is the video player from which the user can perform any kind of basic actions like play, pause, download, picture-in-picture, playback speed, on/off subtitles etc.
2. Here it'll show the necessary details of that videos that were mentioned above.
3. This is the language switcher for the website. Currently it only supports Bangla and English. Later it'll be converted to selection type when we'll bring support for multiple languages.
4. This is the toolbox which controls some important functionalities:
* Like/Dislike
* Edit video details (lighting, start_time etc)
* Show next/previous video

### How will the user upload the annotation for a video?
We will provide a section where the user can provide a sentence/word/phrase with specific timestamp and later it will be converted into a ".srt" or ".vtt" (not fixed yet) file and it will show text as a subtitle according to the timestamp that was given.

**Note:** This feature has not been implemented yet into the demo of the platform.

### How can one successfully upload a video in this platform?
We have provided an in built video recorder which not only record video but also record the voice of the provider. After recording a video the platform will automatically switch to a video player where he can playback his recorded video and give a final check before uploading. After that section a form will be given to the provider where he/she needs to fillup all the necessary video details like lighting information, camera view, start_time etc. After submitting all the reqiured fields the platform will upload the video into the server and store that information against the account which was used when the video was uploaded.

### Do I need to signup in-order to use this platform?
Yes, currently it is mendatory to do almost anything in our platform. Right now we will only support **Sign up by Google** and after that we will also provide a form in order to take some necessary details of our user which is required to upload/validate video.
