final COW words

Final text - with Cynthia's help.

at the beginning of the pandemic, the radio took a back seat due to Covid-19 mobility restrictions and to the perceived threat that the radio posed on gender roles and norms.

concern in the village grew when the young women managing the studio got involved with young men from outside the community. consequently, the community attributed that behavior to the exposure and empowerment the young women gained through radio activities.

However, COW’s role as the main internet provider for online education during the pandemic helped the community in the healing process of the misgivings and in reestablishing trust.

1 - Regarding the girls that left, thanks for explaining this to us. I hope that everything settles down in the best way possible and that, once it is safe in terms of health, you find the best way to continue the radio. In terms of the film, I am wondering if there is a way to left this info intentionally not-clear as you made, but somehow more understandable for people from other countries/cultures that will soon be watching your film. You are the ones who best know the situation and can advise us here, but to give an example, could this info be rephrased like this:

It so happened that some of the girls
involved in the radio left the community.

The media-making space in the community
radio took a back seat due to this and
also suffered the impact of the COVID-19
pandemic and the related lock-down measures

new text:

It so happened that two of the girls
managing the studio got involved with
outside boys and the villagers blamed
that behaviour on radio activities.

The radio took a back seat due to this
and due to the COVID-19 lock-down measures.

However, COW brought the Internet
for online education during the pandemic
and that helped heal some of the misgivings.

aish film lines (current version)

1 - Janastu developed and deployed a Community Owned Wireless Mesh (COW Mesh) with low cost computers, embedded devices and hotspots for community interaction.

2 - It so happened that two of the girls found the men they want to marry, as opposed to social protocol that dictates that parents should choose their daughters’ grooms.
The media-making space in the community radio took a back seat due to this as well as the covid lockdown. However, this inclusive and decentralising technology found its reason to come back to life.

3 - New beginnings are being paved for the mesh, as it will play a major role in virtual classrooms

as well as in encouraging more media makers in local youth.
