# Keycard Discovery Quote

Enabling the keycard project with a layer-2 scaling solution requires the development of a suited architecture. This proposal addresses this goal through the steps of **1. discovery** and **2. scaling playground**. The former will provide the specification for further software development. The latter gives hands on experience and shortens the time to market through agile practices.

## 1. Discovery

This phase will allow our team to gain full understanding of Keycard's requirements. We will break this step into cycles of discovery as follows:
1. **Identification:** here we conduct review, understand the existing code, and survey stakeholders. This can include a workshop that is focusing on open questions.
2. **Analysis:** here we do a "deep dive", visualize interrelations, and try to simulate (optional use of [cadCAD](https://cadcad.org/)) aspects of the design.
3. **Recommendations:** here we produce a written architecture, explain decisions and give time to circle the information with all stakeholders.

The recommendation phase usually decides if an additional cycle of discovery is needed, or if uncertainties are cleared.

### Discovery Team

The team includes a project manager, a business analyst, and a technical lead from LeapDAO. We ask the customers to provide a primary point of contact. However, as many customer stakeholders as necessary can participate in the discovery process. Naturally, it is more likely to capture all requirements if a broad set of stakeholders can be surveyed.

### Deliverables

The deliverables of the discovery phase will be:

- high-level functional requirements doc
- drawings and design concepts
- project plan
- cost proposal for development and deployment of scaling network with milestones.

### Quote

The discovery Phase has a cost of **12,300 DAI**, consisting of up to two cycles of going through the discovery process (identification, analysis, recommendations). Each additional iteration has a cost of **(+ 5,100 DAI)**.

## 2. Scaling Playground

During the discovery phase and early development no scaling solution will be available to test the payment network on. This would delay testing and development of certain features in the keycard team. For this purpose we want to provide a scalability playground, a network connected to the Ethereum testnet or mainnet(keycard's choice) which provides fast confirmation times and other features of a layer-2 network that are unlikely to be affected by the outcome of the discovery phase.

The playground will have the following features:
- 2-3 second block times
- account model and EVM compatible contract execution
- 1h workshop for contract deployment
- json-rpc compatible interface
- bridge contract to deposit and exit ERC20
- 4h turnaround support by LeapDAO for network issues
- block explorer for transaction debugging

The playground will have the following limitations:
- no economic finality for transactions
- no double spend protection for funds
- alpha software, bugs expected and interfaces not final
- single operator network, downtime expected

### Delivery time

The playground will be delivered within 1-2 month after payment.

### Quote

The playground has a cost of **9,800 DAI**.

**Note:** this is not a quote for a layer-2 solution. Rather we want to support the learning curve with the status team and allow hands-on experience with layer-2 solutions.

## 3. Development kick-off

This is where we take the results of the discovery phase and first learnings from the scaling playground to create a roadmap for the keycard project. Development will kick off, and regular releases will update the sandbox deployment.
