### Discussion / Talk
#### How to promote this group?
- There are probably lots of instructions and Carpentries community members in the UK
- We should try to coordinate and promote this group, as well as think about the different activities
- Developing training
- Coordinating effort and activities
- Also overlaps with the RSE UK Teaching & Training SIG (https://society-rse.org/teaching-and-training-sig)
- The SIG could create a mailing list for training leads?
- Or we can signpost people here?
- FA: It's their first meeting, came across it randomly and only knew of the US meetings from The Carpentries
- AG: We could look at different advertisement routes
- RSE Groups in all the different institutions
- SSI can help as well
- RSE Society
- Teaching and Training SIG?
- SSI Fellows?
- [RCM Coop](https://www.rcmcooperative.com)?
- AG: [DisCouRSE](https://discourse-network.github.io) and other UKRI Network+ grants could be used for coordination work - we should keep in loop with them
- AN: T&T SIG - it's just starting off this week
- This group can feed into what we want from the SIG
- There is a steering group and new members who are interested in contributing will join soon
- Could connect to skills and competencies work - DIRECT
- We could have co-working sessions for doing such work
- We got to reduce meetings but still make sure we are not in silos overall
- AG: SIG and this community can be advertised together as well, as the SIG is just taking off
- AW: SIG and UK Carpentries community probably have the greatest overlap
- AG: We should make the training satellite event annual rather than ad-hoc
- SIG and this community could help with this
- Can also collaborate and do talks / events
### Instructor Training checkout questions
- [Checkout process - Get Involved](https://carpentries.github.io/instructor-training/checkout.html#attend-a-regional-call-skill-up-session-or-other-community-programming)
- The Carpentries Slack - https://slack-invite.carpentries.org
- This community is #local-uk on The Carpentries Slack
- Also on TopicBox - https://carpentries.topicbox.com/groups/local-uk
- Different regional communities: https://carpentries.org/community/get-connected
- #local-dach on Slack for Germany, Austria and Switzerland
### Wrap-up/AOB
- Feedback from a new Instructor perspective: It can be overwhelming to look at all the resources and different information
- Would have to filter the relevant information and then decide how to engage with The Carpentries community
- Next meeting is [September 22nd 2025](https://hackmd.io/3MR4yeyWQoydzzj0IFAzEg?both)
### Action points
From the discussion about promoting and strategising for the UK Carpentries community:
- [ ] Decide if and how to merge with Training & Teaching SIG
- [ ] Coordinate with different training groups, get info on who can lead at each institution (e.g. who coordinates Carpentries membership)
- [ ] AW: We can have leaders for each group - Oxford has recently become a Carpentries form
- [ ] AG: Can also have adjacent communities like OLS in touch?
- [ ] Have a Google form opened to collect this info perpetually - e.g. at the start of every meeting
- [ ] Discussion can be continued at the RSECon Satellite event! - **Aman and Aleks** can look into this
- [ ] Email instructor.training@carpentries.org after the meeting with trainee instructors who joined for the community discussion as part of the checkout - Aleks?
- [X] AG: Also to be done for June meeting if note done yet!
- [ ] Cancel calendar invite and send email notice for August meeting - Aleks?
- [ ] Update meeting notes template - Aman
