## Meeting Info

This is the UK Carpentry Community space for the UK Carpentry instructors, helpers and workshop coordinators (or anyone involved in training tech to researchers in general and outside of the UK) to get to know each other better, update the commmunity about developments, discuss issues and ideas, and encourage collaboration.

During these meetings, we will be conforming to [The Carpentries Code of Conduct](https://docs.carpentries.org/policies/coc).

**Meeting schedule: meetings happen on 4th Monday each month, 16:00-17:00 UK time, BST (UTC+1) or GMT (UTC+0) depending on the time of the year**

- Ice breaker: What is something you're looking forward to in the winters?

- Nice and clear and crisp weather (a touch of frost also nice)
- How excited my children get about Christmas!
- wearing my favourite jumpers!! +1 to jumpers!

- it's the next time I have any major time off
- Books with the armchair / blanket and hot chocolate
- I just booked a NYE trip to the seaside in Lincolnshire with friends
- Not having to toil at the allotment! (I need a break).

- [ ] Coordinate with different training groups, get info on who can lead at each institution (e.g. who coordinates Carpentries membership)
- [ ] AW: We can have leaders for each group - Oxford has recently become a Carpentries form
- [ ] AG: Can also have adjacent communities like OLS in touch?
- [ ] Have a Google form opened to collect this info perpetually - e.g. at the start of every meeting

**Reflections**

- Evgenij - "reasonable perfomance SIG" seems to be something that many people who compleate capentries want to think about, have developed articvles and bits of training on profiling and optimisation: https://sig-rpc.github.io
- Jannetta - gave a talk on HPC capentries. Not offical curriculmn yet, but is in incubator. Three questions: (1) more domain specific conferences (looking for workshop hosts, instructors etc.). (2) If you are interested in hosting / teaching get in touch. (3) if you are interested in lesson development please get in touch. Or join HPC capentries meetings (every second Thursday).
- Perhaps [ELIXIR Compute Platform](https://elixir-europe.org/platforms/compute) would be interested. Ask Jonathan Tedds.
- Maybe HPC teams at Universities - sometimes part of centeral RSE teams, sometimes not...

- Aman (and others), training day. Satalite day organised last minute (two months). Lightning talks (see above). Keynote by James Hetherington (UCL) on genAI, then a buunch of short talks. Discussion of skills for Research Technical Profesionals (DIRECT), skills for learners, as leaders etc). Lots of work needs to be done. A heavy day for a Friday after a meeting.
