    # Daniel wants to buy toys There are a number of items which I would like to buy as toys or tech funsies. The current goal is to buy SSD storage for my desktop (listless). To do that I need to afford at least 2TB of SATA SSD, ideally more. Amazon suggests that 2TB of SSD is around 250 quid, so let's aim for 500 quid of buffer. ## How this might work To 'earn' my toy money at a pace that, for example, earning for the SSD goal can be done in a reasonable time frame (10-14 days) I have come up with the following earning options: 1. Absolute food intake related 2. Absolute exercise related 3. Chore related I'll come up with other options as I go, but the idea is that assuming I'm a 'good boy' for at least two weeks without break, I should be getting close to any given target. Sadly I underestimated my desire to overeat, so after a week I've had to adjust things slightly to deal with a mental flaw I have that the moment things go a bit bad, I just overeat for the hell of it. # Absolute food related Since it's "too easy" for me to go for a long walk in order to 'earn' more food, I'm not going to permit that. Intake related rewards are based on absolute calories eaten, so excluding tea/squash but including Huel if I had that. My theoretical goal is 1200 kcal/day and hitting that will earn 25 quid. | Calorie range | Description | Value | | ------------- | ---------------------------- | ----- | | sub 1050 | Too little to be safe | -10 | | 1050-1150 | Eager but not awful | 30 | | 1150-1250 | Spot on | 25 | | 1250-1350 | Overshot | 20 | | 1350-1450 | Careful now | 15 | | 1450-1550 | Oh dear | 5 | | 1550-1650 | Very not good | -5 | | 1650-1850 | Basically a crap day | -15 | | 1850-2050 | You suck | -30 | | 2050-2250 | You really suck | -40 | | 2250-3000 | OMG do you want to die? | -50 | | 3000+ | OK, you don't get to do this | Reset | A week in this was adjusted because it was found that when 1550kcal was the cutoff for £-25 then getting anywhere near that (e.g. one day it was 1551 kcal) results in a spur to just eat sugary things because "it can't be any worse". Upping that to 1850 seems sane and means I'm less likely to hit that boundary. After another week it was realised that the problem with 1850 is that if I get near it, I blow out. So I tried to make it more possible to calorie count toward a nice dessert or whatever, without encouraging utter blowout. # Absolute exerise related Exercise for me is a regular thing which I normally do, and want to do, but if I miss it then that's a bad thing. I normally have two core-strength workouts, two yoga sessions, two runs, and two gym sessions (run, gym, run) per week. Each of these things if done is worth something, and if missed (and not suitably substituted) is a negative hit. | What | When | Value | Penalty | Possible substitutes | | ---------------- | --------- | ----- | ------- | ------------------------- | | Step goal (5000) | Every day | 0 | -100 | None | | Core Strength | Mon/Thu | 5 | -10 | 10k steps (so 15k total) | | Run to Gym | Mon/Thu | 5 | -10 | Rowing machine, 6min | | Gym workout | Mon/Thu | 10 | -50 | None | | Run from Gym | Mon/Thu | 5 | -10 | Skill mill, 1km ish | | Yoga | Tue/Fri | 10 | -20 | 10k steps (so 15k total) | | Run 5k | Wed/Sat | 10 | -50 | Another run, or intervals | | Run 10k | Sat | 20 | -50 | A different run | | Run 21k | Sat | 50 | -50 | A different run | If I am inspired to go out for a cycle ride, that's 15 per hour spent out cycling, but no penalty if I decide not to go. Also, from a Strava challenges perspective, I need to do at least one 5k, one 10k, and one 21k in each month, simply to meet those requirements. Running less than 5k does not count as 'A different run' for the purposes of substitution. Running 7.5k counts as a 5k, etc. # Chores related Chores suck, and I hate them. Cooking is not a chore, washing clothes is not a chore. What counts is things I hate doing or don't do anywhere near enough and rjek probably hates me for not doing it enough. | What | Value | | ------------------------------- | ----- | | Loading/Emptying the dishwasher | 10 | | Putting out rubbish/recycling | 10 | | Cleaning the bathroom | 10 | | Cleaning up in the kitchen | 10 | | Vacuuming a room | 20 | | Other misc tidying | 10 | Note, it's only worth the chore value if I actually do something usefully sized. Cleaning a room the day after it was cleaned, if nothing went wrong, is not worth extra points. # Results I will record here how I do each day, and thus my running total score. ## Monday 31st August * Hit step goal (0) * Core strength workout, missed, 15k steps instead (5) * Intake total 1206 (25) * Ran to gym, did gym workout (chest/back 1), ran home. Instead the goal is to walk for at least 1h per day for £10. Distance is irrelevant. ## Monday 21st September * Step goal hit (0) * Walked for a total of at least 1h (10) * Dishwasher (10) * Intake total 1752 (-15) > Day total £5, Running total £455 ## Tuesday 22nd September * Step goal hit (0) * Walked for a total of at least 1h (10) * Intake total 2264 (-50) > Day total £-40, Running total £405 ## Wednesday 23rd September * Step goal hit (0) * Walked enough to warrant a zero, but not to score more (0) * Intake total 1612 (-5) > Day total £-5, Running total £400 ## Thursday 24th September * Step goal hit (0) * Walked for a total of at least 1h (10) * Put rubbish out (10) * Intake total 1873 (-30) > Day total £-10, Running total £390 ## Friday 25th September * Step goal hit (0) * Walked for a total of at least 1h (10) * Intake total 2589 (-50) > Day total £-40, Running total £350 ## Saturday 26th September * Step goal hit (0) * Ran a 5k (10) * Walked for a total of at least 1h (10) * Intake total 1124 (30) > Day total £50, Running total £400 ## Sunday 27th September * Step goal hit (0) * Walked enough, but not great (0) * Intake total 1657 (-15) > Day total £-15, Running total £385 ## Monday 28th September * Step goal hit (0) * Lunchtime core strength workout (5) * Ran to gym, leg stability, ran home (20) * Walked for at least 1h (10) * Intake total 2409 (-50) > Day total £-15, Running total £370 ## Tuesday 29th September * Step goal hit (0) * Lunchtime Yoga (10) * Walked for a pretty long time despite not needing to (5) * Good chunk of toilet cleaning (5) * Intake total ??
