# Problem Statement
- Lack of motivation and collaborative element in exercising due to lockdowns.
# Tasks
1. Create a challenge.
1.1 Create a squats challenge without any age or gender restrictions for participants (anyone can join).
*Since knowing that there are other people who can join the challenge you created encourages a sense of community and collaborative effort.*
2. Join a challenge.
2.1 Join one of the active push-up challenge.
*Since when people know that they are not alone and others are also doing the excercise they fell more motivated*
3. Compare your performance with peers.
3.1 Check your rank in the overall leaderboard.
*Since our core problem is motivation we expect that this task will encourage people to achieve a higher rank and be motivated.*
# Prototype
### Tool
We decided to use Figma, as it is easy to use and more intuitive than other tools and it allows online collaboration, since not all our team members are currently in Korea.
### Design Choices:
1. We did not add the profile page
For the provided tasks we deemed the profile page irrelevant.
2. We chose to have a simple design for the prototype to get more feedback and understand what the users really usually expect to see in terms of interface when hearing the description of our website.

* Leaderboard showing how well you performed compared to others.

# Observations
Four people participated in our prototype testing:
P1: Third-year EE student in KAIST from Kazakhstan, age: 22 years old, regular gym user.
P2: Second-year KAIST student majoring in CS department from Azerbaijan, age: 19 years old, regular gym user.
P3: First year Kyoto university student majoring in Micro-biology from Azerbaijan, age: 23 years old, intensive gym user during the non-lockdown period.
P4: 4-year KAIST male student, was a regular on-campus gym user before the lockdown.
The usability issues are sorted by tasks. At the end of each issue we wrote the participant code in square brackets [P#] followed by **{Criticality level}**. The criticality levels are as follows:
**{H}** - high; must be addressed.
**{M}** - medium; better if addressed;
**{L}** - low; can skip addressing.
## Task 1
* Ambiguity in the time formatting on the "Challenges" page. The users were confused why he needs to know the milliseconds and thought it is hours and minutes.[P2, P4]**{M}**
* Possible solution: remove milliseconds and be consistent with other timers; show seconds countdown.
## Task 2
* The initial page with challenges was unintuitive, user did not know how to navigate, and orient.[P3]**{H}**
* Possible solution: Place the navigation tabs below in the bottom of the screen with their icon hints instead of the side menu.
* The button on the left is unintuitive and hard to reach with the right hand.[P3]**{H}**
* Possible solution: place the button on the right.
* Seeing detailed information about a challenge every time joining a challenge seems redundant. [P1]**{M}**
* Possible Solution: Providing a “Details” button so that detailed information about the challenge is provided to the user only when he presses the button otherwise challenge page only provides a form to submit the video and the numbers.
* Recording and editing the video separately from the website is uncomfortable and tiring. [P1]**{H}**
* Possible Solution: Providing tik-tok like functionality where people can record a 1-minute video directly through the platform.
## Task 3
* There was a confusion about what the create challenge does in the navigation menu.
* Possible solution: leave it in only one place.
* Different expectations when looking at the leaderboard screen, i.e. expected to see a default leaderboard, but saw nothing and was confused.[P3, P4]**{H}**
* Possible solution: set a default page to open when opening the leaderboard.
* Difficulty understanding how to accomplish the task of seeing how the user compares to others.
* Possible solution: make more clear directives on the site.
* Leaderboard was confusing with links embedded.[P3]**{L}**
* Possible solution: Bring videos once the participant row is clicked.
* Switching from page to page using the side menu is uncomfortable.[P1, P4]**{L}**
* Possible solution: Replacing the side menu with a bottom navigation bar.
## Overall design:
* Users were expecting a darker design because most sports apps are in darker color patterns by default. Also, some users mentioned that it looks unrefined, like "some older" sites. [P2, P3, P4] **{H}**
* Possible solution: refine the design to resemble modern platforms where the feed is not separated into boxes and maybe add a dark/light mode.
# Plan for improvements:
Based on the feedback that we obtained from the user interviews and the brainstorming session on the possible solutions, we came up with a plan on how we can improve the project:
* The major change will be the migration of the navigation on the bottom of the screen so that the user can more easily navigate when using their phone and don't need to reach to the edge of the screen.
* Have clearer indicators/directives when it comes to viewing the leaderboard by adding a default loaded leaderboard (total; overall).
* Make sure that the user can choose to upload a file or start the camera through the appropriate tags and format requirements.
* Add a "Details" button to the challenges, so if the user is interested in seeing more information, he can click on it. Otherwise, when the user just clicks on "Join", the challenges table is updated to show that the user joined that challenge.
* Refining the overall look and design by looking at modern and more familiar to users applications for reference.
