### Engagement and Communications Coordinator

### Director of Programs

Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) seeks a Director of Programs to join us in our work to increase the investment in and adoption of open infrastructure to further equitable access to and participation in research. This crucial role helps IOI to fulfil its commitments to a broad range of stakeholders, including funders, publishers, libraries, research institutions, and administrators, as we encourage, facilitate, and make more visible the support of open infrastructure.
The Director of Programs is responsible for operationalizing IOI’s core aims, building and scaling IOI’s projects and programs to accelerate the adoption, investment, and sustainability of open infrastructure serving research and scholarship. This role provides structure and scaffolding to enable our team to conduct robust research and provide targeted client services to funders, adopters, and creators of open infrastructure. The Director of Programs also works closely with other members of the leadership team to explore how to convert successful research initiatives and pilot programs into ongoing products with earned revenue streams that enrich the resilience of IOI’s business model.
This leadership position will cultivate a team that specializes in landscape and market mapping, funding trend analysis, assessment, business and governance design, capacity building, and investment modeling. Its outputs will inform and motivate funders, institutions, and creators of open infrastructure to work collectively in support of maintaining and sustaining a common core of open standards, tools, and services. The team will also provide strategic support services to infrastructure providers to help them structure, scale, and sustain their offerings so that open approaches become the default for scholarship and knowledge sharing.
Reporting to the Executive Director, and serving as part of the leadership team, the Director of Programs works to cultivate a strong, diverse, and distributed environment where every member is expected to be highly collaborative, regularly sharing and receiving feedback on our full range of work and offering input on both strategy and implementation.
This is a full-time role with benefits, designed to build on IOI’s existing research and strategic support work to expand its depth, breadth, and impact. This crucial role helps IOI to fulfil its commitments to a broad range of stakeholders, including funders, publishers, libraries, research institutions, and administrators, as we encourage, facilitate, and make more visible the support of open infrastructure.
The Director of Finance and Operations leads the Operations team at IOI to support IOI’s Executive Director, Steering Committee, and Programs and Development teams in advancing IOI’s mission and executing our strategic plan effectively and efficiently, through iteratively developing and maintaining processes and tooling to manage IOI’s finances and budget, projects, resources, knowledge, risks, infrastructure, etc. Additionally, the Director of Finance and Operations plays a critical role in the planning and execution of the IOI Fund for Network Adoption, by managing the network pipeline and related processes to ensure that the Fund achieves its goals and maximal impact in furthering investment in and adoption of open infrastructures. In the fiscal year 2024/25, the role also oversees the preparation work for IOI’s maturation into an independent entity.

This crucial role helps IOI to build and maintain strong relationships with a broad range of stakeholders, including funders, publishers, libraries, research institutions, consortial leaders, and open infrastructure providers, as we encourage, facilitate, and incentivize funding and use of open infrastructure to further equitable access to and participation in research.
The Research Engagement Manager is a crucial part of the constellation of team members who are responsible for building, tracking, assessing, maintaining, and improving our networks of partners and clients. This work includes a blend of outreach, facilitation, ongoing engagement, and reporting (written and presentation). The Research Engagement Manager meticulously manages records of our engagement efforts and builds strategies and processes that help us to better understand and meet stakeholder needs; they also actively seek out engagement opportunities and help to matchmake between our active work (e.g., strategic support and research projects) and these engagement opportunities (e.g., presentations, article placement). The Research Engagement Manager also crafts evaluation methods to measure and share our progress toward goals, and assists with documentation, event, and communication asset creation.

### Business Development and Partnerships Lead

Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) is seeking a Business Development & Partnerships Lead to join a dynamic team working to increase adoption, investment in, and the sustainability of open infrastructure in research and scholarship.
The Business Development & Partnerships Lead position is instrumental to the next phase of IOI’s growth and development as we look to diversify our funding modes and streams, as well as grow uptake and investment of open infrastructure by institutions and funders globally. Our aim is to direct as much support to the communities we serve while also ensuring our ability to sustain IOI’s core activities. This role will directly support and lead the expansion of IOI’s business activities to advance IOI’s mission.
This includes identifying fee-for service and funding opportunities to advance IOI’s strategic plan, conducting market analysis and prospect research to help prioritize new opportunities and partnerships, creating materials to support the Executive Director in business development, and managing processes and strategies to bring efficiency and clarity to this work. This role will also work closely with the Executive Director and Leadership team to build support for the IOI Fund for Network Adoption, set to launch in mid-to-late 2024.
This is an exciting role for someone passionate about deepening IOI’s impact and service to the research community, while also ensuring that we internally are being strategic about how we are supported alongside the pressing funding needs of the communities we serve. We see this role as critical in helping us identify mission-aligned ways we can support ongoing work, while also ensuring we’re maximizing and increasing investment in the open infrastructure ecosystem.
This position will work closely with the Executive Director and will serve as part of IOI’s Leadership team (which consists of Research, and Engagement, and Product Leads in addition to the Executive Director). This is a full-time, remote position, reporting to the Executive Director.
Key responsibilities:
- Support the Executive Director in furthering the development of IOI’s fundraising and business partnership strategy, including development of sustainable support for IOI via fee-for-service offerings, fund contributions, and core support via grants and donations.
- Build and manage a portfolio of funding prospects and partners including foundations, government agencies / national funding programs, industry partners, institutional leaders and budget holders, and other organizations with financial support potential through identification, cultivation, solicitation, reporting, and stewardship.
- Work with the IOI Leadership team to think strategically about how to grow the uptake and investment of open infrastructure among funders and institutions systematically, including via marketing efforts, network partnerships, and more.
- Manage and refine systems, processes, and tools for building and managing a business development pipeline that brings clarity to how we make decisions about opportunities, what the outcomes and deadlines are, and how we are measuring progress.

Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) is a coalition of organizations working to organize and deliver funding for open scholarly infrastructure at scale from the most obvious beneficiaries: the global institutions and agencies that form the bulk of academic support and funding today. This role will be responsible for coordinating the day-to-day activities of IOI, working with the Steering Committee to define and execute a plan to unlock substantial and durable funding for open scholarly infrastructure. This involves managing the program work, staff, and fundraising as needed for programmatic activities, developing and engaging with the IOI Steering Committee and the partner organizations.
We are looking for someone with an entrepreneurial spirit to work with the IOI Steering Committee to develop and launch new initiatives aimed at expanding support for open scholarly infrastructure. This role will engage in everything from strategic planning and communications, cross-org collaboration, day-to-day tasks, hiring processes, fundraising, and overall program design and management.
This role is responsible for managing the IOI project, a fiscally sponsored project of Code for Science & Society (CS&S). The role reports to the IOI Advisory Committee, part of the larger IOI Steering Committee.
Core Responsibilities
- Develop the vision for and scope of IOI in partnership with the IOI Steering Committee
- Arrange and oversee deliverables, time-tables, and budget allocation for program activities

Invest in Open Infrastructure (IOI) is seeking a Product Lead to join a growing team working to increase adoption, investment in, and the sustainability of open infrastructure in research and scholarship by leading our effort to develop our Catalog of Open Infrastructure Services (COIs) from a prototype into a full-featured application and supporting the delivery of other targeted research products to our key stakeholders.
You will be responsible for managing the technical aspects of the COIs application development as well as other similar digital products we may develop in the future to support our grant-funded work. You will help hire and manage contract technical staff, including designers, developers, data engineers, and UX researchers. You will enable the work of others through effective coordination, delegation, and task management towards building a quality product that fulfills our vision of an application that increases information sharing, improves discovery, and delivers value for users seeking to support open infrastructure services.
You should have experience directing a technical team through the steps in the software development life cycle towards a finished web-based application in fulfillment of documented technical requirements. You should also have familiarity with the key technical areas you will be managing (web development frameworks, visual design principles, database systems, and user research techniques). You should be familiar with open-source tools and technologies, particularly the technologies we’ve used in the prototype application (PostgreSQL, Django/Python, D3.js, and Ubuntu). Ideally, you will have experience or at least a keen interest in the process of scientific research and scholarly communication, particularly research using open tools and technologies.
You will report to the Executive Director and sit alongside the Engagement, Business Development & Partnerships, and Research Leads as part of the Leadership team. Despite being a distributed team, we expect you to be highly collaborative and a valuable participant in our weekly team meetings, providing updates and offering input to the full range of IOI’s work.
Key responsibilities
* Guide a multi-functional team of contract professionals to develop the Catalog of Open Infrastructure Services web-based application from a prototype to a full-featured application
