> FOSDEM 2024 will take place at the ULB on the 3th and 4th of February 2024.

> As has become traditional, we offer free and open source projects a stand to display their work to the audience. You can share information, demo software, interact with your users and developers, give away goodies, sell merchandise or accept donations. All is possible!

> We offer you:

> - One table (180x80cm) with a set of chairs and a power socket.
> - Fast wireless internet access.
> - A spot in stands.fosdem.org.
>
> You can choose if you want the spot for the entire conference, or simply for one day. Joint submissions (sharing a table) will be favoured in the process.

> Submit your application at [stands.fosdem.org/submission](http://stands.fosdem.org/submission)! Deadline closes the 8th of December; accepted stands will be announced the 20th of December.

Nix and NixOS

## Project description

Nix and NixOS are tools that take a unique approach to package management and system configuration. It differs with most other tools in that it is heavily inspired by functional programming. Those inspirations being: immutable, side effectless, and correct. It delivers on the promise of "if it works on my machine, it will work on yours". Without shipping your actual machine. 😉

## Why do you want to be at FOSDEM?

Nix and NixOS are community open source projects, which, by nature of being a Linux distribution, are intertwined with many upstreams and other open source projects. Many of our contributors are contributors to other open source projects and we believe that a stand could be a beacon to further our relations with the whole FLOSS ecosystem.

Last year's Nix devroom witnessed a lot of interest and curiosity from the overall FOSDEM community, with as much people waiting outside of the room than seated inside. We would like the opportunity to answer to that more broadly this year through an open stand.
Conversely, we want to spread knowledge about Nix, both to show newcomers an innovative approach to config management and to give existing users a place to share their experience with the tool and learn from each other.

The “Project theme” selection was a tough one since the Nix ecosystem is at the intersection between “Operating Systems” and “Development environments”.
We arbitrarily picked one, but the other one could be as good if it can help.
