# 2018-02-27 Toronto Shelter Map :date: Date: May 8, 2018 @ 7pm-9pm :round_pushpin: Location: Mozilla :family: Attendance: - Zack - Andrew - Kathy - Sean - Joey ## Discussion Notes - Joey recapped things so far: - can't solve everything with Shelter System; focus has been narrowed: - Winter Respite - Out of the Cold Program - Want to build a system that solves communication between OOTC & WR - reviewed some proposed solutions - In & Out Entry was the winner - Guest at WRS/OOTC speaks to staff member - Staff collects their info and adds them to the system - Guests answer as to whether they will be coming back or not when leaving site, if not then database will update - We still have questions to ask (find link from Zach here) - Kathy has done some interviews with guests, and has started to volunteer with Fred Victor - Note: each floor usually has a security person in addition to the staff members - Interview security staff - how involved they can be? - since they are from a private company, can they participate in these trials, can they relay information to staff members? - what do they know about head counts? - Certain centres: - More than one entrance - Lots of in and out: - Nice weather: walks - Smoke breaks - etc. - Discussed the possibility of a turnstile-based solution - Common, consumer hardware may be a cheaper and more versatile option - Saturday: - 1hr to review questions and catch up - rest of day to talk to people - Maybe to test out the process with pen and paper? - We can change the process as necessary so long as we record it - We decided to create a Trello to assign work - Zach created the default template ## Action Items - Brainstorm questions to ask - Identify 2 locations to trial ## Questions - Who is the best person to talk to? Security? Front desk? Someone else? - What is the entry process? - How to track without making people feel like objects? - How is Fred Victor or other established shelters doing their check in? - Is our expectation of their information collection prototcol accurate? Would the data we collect be sufficient? - Are all beds equivalent? Do we need to connect a specific guest to a specific bed/cot/resource?
