# Google Applied Digital Skills

As part of what we're helping JLU create is a virtual learning platform we've been looking at few examples for inspiration. We wanted to be on the lookout for a platform that could be used to house JLU's e-learning offering - either an established platform that hosts courses for organisations, or a framework that could be re-used, or used as inspiration for a from scratch approach.

We came across [Google Applied Digital Skills](https://applieddigitalskills.withgoogle.com/s/en-uk/home) which is a fairly new (at time of writing) education center for Google.

For a start it's an excellent resource that is well designed and laid out - you can be a teacher and create a class for each course, or be a learner and take courses as you please. The material is focused on both general and specific digital skills and has a wide range of skill levels considered (create a google account / do machine learning). Although you cannot build your own courses out of the box or as an ad hoc contribution, it is nevertheless an excellent resource for digital skills learning.

The other thing that interested us is that the platform and contents are open source on a creative commons license. As a nice example of what it is it may be possible to fork elements of the structure when building one's own similar system.
