# OGGM Open Meeting
###### tags: `OGGM` `meeting notes`
Our meetings have a simple structure! They usually take somewhere between 20 mins and an hour, depending on the agenda!
1. **General Announcements and reminders**
2. **Flash updates**
3. **Project updates**
4. **Group agenda points**
5. **Topical discussion**
6. **Action items**
- **Flash updates** are a quick round of short updates (~2-3 minutes) by all participants (please also write them in the shared notes). Here you can request for additional agenda items that require longer discussions (example: "I have a problem understanding XY"). Even if you have nothing to report you will be asked to say hi, and tell us something else about your week instead!
- This is followed by **Project updates**, during which we revisit the currently opened projects on github (for example, a documentation update, a paper led by a community member, the next OGGM version, etc.).
- **Group agenda points** are longer, open discussion points of the day. This could be something that needs input from all participants, a discussion about model choices, a project requiring input from the community, or a prepared presentation by one of the members. Note that **our goal is to keep "Flash/project updates" + "Open agenda" well under one hour** in order to keep a dynamic meeting.
- **Topical discussions** are more technical items that may not be of interest to everyone (e.g. about a specific problem, master thesis, etc.). These will take place after the official part.
- **Action items**: what needs to be done after the meeting and by who

### Group agenda points
- Presentation Nick
- OGGM Shop supports W5E5 data at daily resolution.
- MonthlyTIModel serves as the parent for DailyTIModel.
- MonthlyTIModel has been refactored into smaller methods, which child daily TI models hook into only when necessary.
- Code is trending towards more explicit signatures rather than kwargs, to prevent illegal arguments being passed to parent classes, or overridden by hardcoded variables within method.
- Calibration now works, although the differences between DailyTIModel and MonthlyTIModel are minimal.
- Surface tracking scheme is still delayed - part of this is technical debt in test framework.
- Publication page - catagorize publications?
- The issue was briefly discussed. For now we will continue the way we did, listing all publications (we're aware of) using OGGM. We will track how this is going from time to time, and if a more urgent need for categorizing arises. @bearecinos, mentioned Elicit, which might be an useful IA tool to help with labelling once the time comes.

### General Announcements and reminders
### Action items from last week
- [x] Introductions channel created
### Flash updates
- Fabien
- Plenty of travels (digital twin frascatti, glacier modelling oslo...) and lots of teaching. Feeling really swamped this month and the next...
- New (non-OGGM) class https://fabienmaussion.info/climate_risks/ - next workshop will deal with OGGM standard projections!
- A few OGGM news:
- DTCG Digital twin making progress
- A new PhD student maybe? :crossed_fingers:
- New test gdirs (finally...)
- Marin
- Very nice AGM at UIBK
- OGGM-SnowSlide global runs + preparing some figures & key messages
- Testing oggm-3dviz to visualize avalanche hotspots (experiencing kernel crashes when using viz?) (Patrick: yes the problem is, if you try around with the design using viz.show(), you also should do after each try viz.close(), as in the background everytime a new pyvista object is created and keept opened. I need to document this better.)
- Patrick
- nice AGM: set up first goodbye-glacier signpost (german press release of Uni Innsbruck: https://www.uibk.ac.at/de/newsroom/2025/goodbye-glaciers-wegweiser-markieren-das-ende-der-gletscher/)
- working on a new way handling parameters in OGGM (group agenda point)
- try to finish first AGILE paper for submission (https://github.com/OGGM/AGILE)
- writing on a proposal for future developments of AGILE

### Action items from last week
### Flash updates

- preparing talk on ICCI glacier projections until year 2300 (and goodbye glacier events)
- Bea
- Dealing with major GRL paper corrections (more simulations but all good) though that will bring futher delays on other stuff
- update on FSM: once docs are better will be online
### Group agenda points
- Suggestion from Lizz in #governance re: knowing who is in the Slack community (LU posting this here for you in absentia, sorry)
- Bea: Or can we just make a new #introduction channel where it may be clearer that people should introduce themselves.... Lily: we could also ask everyone to introduce themselves in one sentence there, it would be a nice collection, though maybe too much work for everyone? ... We may just need someone who checks once per month all new people and asks them to introduce themselves (if they have not yet introduced themselves... this is probably not too much work?)
### Questions?
- discussion on FSM2trans (Marin and Bea)
- oggm hub -> give people access -> can bea help? But she thinks that we may need a protocol...may also make sense to split the work (for two people, change every month or so)? Maybe put these kind of changing rules into an OGGM community calendar?
### Action items
- Lily asked: how can we make the meetings a bit longer/more interactive again? -> no solution yet, but we will think about it

### General Announcements and reminders
### Action items from last week
Report by Fabien in absence:
- [/] 2025 OGGM workshop: *likely to happen towards autumn, in Grenoble or somewhere easy to reach (e.g. Amsterdam, Brussels). Also shorter: 3 days. We will seek input from community on this. 2026 workshop to be organised in Obergurgl, in big fashion for the 10 yr aniversary*
- [x] oggm.org migration: *we picked a date in march - for that day, most of OGGM services (not the cluster or gdirs) will be down.*
- [x] Cluster migration: *no migration planned at this stage. Some plans for the hubs in the future. (addition from Ben, also absent today: Timo confirmed that the only downside are vastly reduced data transfer rates for the Bremen group, and he is somewhat optimistic he can event circumvent this issue; worst case: larger down/uploads are done by physically carrying a hard drive to the building with the rack)*
### Flash updates
- Bea
- Submitted manuscript to [GRL](https://essopenarchive.org/users/881139/articles/1260076-mapping-ice-stream-sensitivity-in-the-amundsen-sector-to-changes-in-ice-velocity-observations) and giving a talk about this on Friday in Bristol. (Finally two weeks of full focus on IRF!).
- Submitted HiPerma proposal to NERC, lead by [Dr. Qi Ou](https://edwebprofiles.ed.ac.uk/profile/dr-qi-ou), on permafrost thawing in HMA (to hired 2 posdocs in Edi).
- Ready to work on the calving module but preparing bristol talk atm.
- Lilian
- worked further on the [goodbye-glaciers.info](https://goodbye-glaciers.info/) website
- thinking about writing a proposal (https://www.fwf.ac.at/en/funding/portfolio/careers/erwin-schroedinger), eventually related to glacier projections beyond 2100, specifically temperature overshoot scenarios and glacier irreversibilities, but topic is still open
- looking into open post-doc positions
- analysing again GlacierMIP3 model differences for Oslo
- Anouk
- Larissa her decadal manuscript was re-submitted
- Now working on revising another co-authored manuscript
- Marin
- OGGM globals simulations with avalanches - thanks for the support!
- Analysis of results - very exciting :)
### Group agenda points
### Questions?
- Bea:
- When in March will the OGGM servers will be down? Will this affect oggm.edu and the Hub? Can I pre-book time 2hrs already for the 10th and 13th of March for a Glacier hydrology lecuture?
- Anouk:
- best practices on ...

Steering commitee : https://community.oggm.org/roles.html
OGGM steering committee:
- asking on Slack seems good
- clear expectations about what to do
- democratic process? Maybe at least an open process
