In 2024, Crystal Palace announced its official partnership with Net88.com, a Vietnam-based online betting platform.
The collaboration was intended to strengthen both parties, with Net88.com gaining visibility through the club’s fanbase while providing financial support to Crystal Palace. However, the partnership soon became controversial due to fraudulent activities carried out by third parties.
Shortly after the partnership announcement, a fake website, Net88net88.com, appeared, impersonating the legitimate Net88.com platform. Many users intending to place bets on Net88.com mistakenly accessed the fraudulent site, leading to financial losses as they were unable to withdraw their deposits.
Frustrated players, unaware that they had visited a fake domain, directed their anger toward Crystal Palace, blaming the club for promoting a brand associated with scams.
In response to the impersonation, Net88.com has taken legal action by filing a lawsuit in the Bavet Provincial Court in Cambodia against the operators of the fake website. Additionally, the company has issued warnings to users, urging them to verify website links before accessing and making transactions.
The incident highlights the growing issue of cyber fraud in the betting industry and underscores the importance of user vigilance in distinguishing between legitimate and fraudulent platforms.
