# Instructions for checkers

- black pieces can only move diagonally upwards by one square
- white pieces can only move diagonally downwards by one square
- if an opponent's piece is diagonally next to your piece and the next square is empty, you can jump over your opponent's piece removing it from the game
- if you have an option to jump over your opponent's piece, you must do it
- you cannot jump over your own pieces
- if your piece goes up/down all the way to the edge of the beard, it gets promoted from a pawn to a king; the king can move diagonally in any direction as many squares as it likes; the king can jump over one opponent's piece at a time, and after doing so it lands on the square right after the opponent's piece
- the game ends when one player doesn't have any pieces, in which case they lose the game
