# Topics that Alex would like to discuss at the Bitcoin Film Club.
As [mentioned](https://twitter.com/raw_avocado/status/1663218094679166976/) I want to get together and talk with people about film making.
Here I made a list of topics that I find interesting and would propose to discuss when we meet online.
For coordinating, please join the [Bitcoin FilmFest Telegram](https://t.me/+yfXLveSIRsw3YTJk) chat.
Please read through the topics below and pick the ones you find interesting :D
Also feel free to propose any other topics you like.
I think it's best we take turns in proposing topics as it helps things progress faster, so considering I initiated this, I decided to propose some topics I like.
# Meta
- Making a film that happens to be about Bitcoin vs a Bitcoin Film
- Cinematography vs Videography
- Video vs. Film vs. Movie vs. Motion Picture
- Never explain your art. If your art speaks, you can only speak over it
# Disecting commercials
I really enjoy watching and making comercials.
I mean it's story telling on steroids.
Here are some of my favorite which I would like to talk about any time :)

# Movies
We could pick one movie to watch, and then get together to discuss it.
I propose:
- PlayTime 1967
- https://youtu.be/d8baw7Rb-9k
- Nostalgia by Andrei Tarkovsky
- Touch of Evli by Orson Wells
- The Searchers - Ford
- The cell
- Brazil - New & Old
- The Conformist(the only one that I already saw from the list)
- Why man creates (short by Saul Bass)
- A Place to Stand (1967)
- Short documentary
- An pitch-perfect case study of split screens
- The Big Shave (1967) - A Short Film by Martin Scorsese
- https://youtu.be/Ot-QYUJwq5M
- Marty's 3rd film :D
# Movie titles
Scorses once said "Movie titles are more importnat than movies in some cases." I agree.
So I propose we study and discuss the 2 masters of movie titles:
- Saul Bass
- Pablo Ferro
# Paintings
The master Vittorio Storaro recomends studying paintings to learn and understand lighting.
He mentions **Carvaggio**.
Also Copolla used "Carvaggio lighting" for the faimous opening scene in The Godfather.
# Movie trailers
A good trailer makes all the difference so obviously they are worth studying.
Here are a few that I think they are masterfully done.
## Dr. Strangelove (1964)
The trailer and the opening title sequence is done by Pablo Ferro.
Kubrick hired him after he saw the commercials he made.
The trailer is a pure masterpiece, and just so ahead of it's time.
Pablo kinda pionered the fast cutting, which is so present in all media today.
## The Big Short
- https://youtu.be/vgqG3ITMv1Q
The Big Short is one of the best movies ever made, period. But one thing that stands out(for me) is the masterfull editing.
The trailer is no exception.
The rythm enstablish with the diagetic sound effects, it's just incredible
# Beginer topics
- Lens choices
- Color grading
- Camera choice
- Compositoion beyond the rulls
